nbn FTTN to FTTP Transition from Dodo to Tangerine

I have just applied for the FTTP upgrade with Tangerine (currently with Dodo). The issue is the FTTP is scheduled for 16/6 (2 weeks from today) and my 2nd month billing with Dodo begins tomorrow. I called Tangerine and apparently I can't switch FTTN to FTTN because I already have an existing FTTP request though I don't think the operator fully understood my situation. I'm thinking of switching my Dodo internet via online anyway from FTTN to FTTN with Tangerine to take advantage of the 14 day trial or switch to Launtel for 14 days at least. Is this the best course of action?

I would think the solution would be just to wait it out?

    • Dodo, my current FTTN provider, will bill me tomorrow if i'm understanding it correctly

Then stay with Dodo for one more month and change over the following month.

This just sounds like you're complicating the matter more than necessary.

Why do you want the 14 day trial though? You upgrade for FTTP, then downgrade the plan to below 100/20 after the 14 day trial, you're likely liable for a fee anyway.

Obviously the simple solution is to pay $65 but I don't want to do that since Tangerine has already billed me as well.

@kobeduck: Cancel Dodo and use tethering until FTTP is in?

            • -1

@DogGunn: That's another option not sure if the wife will agree

      • Just order a new FTTN service with Tangerine and when your new FTTP service gets installed Tangerine will cancel the FTTN service. FTTP upgrade is a seperate request to buying a new FTTN service.

Pay 1 month extra to avoid the headache seems like a no brainer to me.

I'm bored at work. It's not a headache. Rather save the $65

  • @kobeduck May I know how you manage to get an invite for the upgrade? My suburb is on the list but I am not sure how to get NBN to upgrade my FTTN connection. Thanks.

    • Go to a participating provider of your liking and check your eligibility. They send the request to NBN and they organise the appointment for a visit and installation.

      1. Check here every month.
      2. If your property is ready to go you will see this message halfway down the page;
Good news! You may be able to upgrade to nbn™ FTTP.
We’re extending fibre deeper into selected areas. Your location may be able to upgrade to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) if you order a plan based on nbn™ Home Fast or higher◊.
      3. Contact a participating provider to organize the FTTN to FTTP changeover.

Not all properties will be included in the 2022 rollout and you may have to wait for the 2023 rollout.

Thanks for that. This makes things much clearer. My suburb is not on the list in your link for 2022 rollout. I guess I will have to wait for 2023, which is a shame. I just got a bit excited because I saw some guys working on a box out front today.

Those locations in the OzBargain link are already live and there is a chance you can order later this year. nbn are updating the FTTP rollout monthly.

@Twix: Hey, thanks for your advice. I checked the NBN site regularly as you suggested and it looks like I am eligible for an upgrade now. :)

      • Q: I have been on FTTN with Optus since 2017. I've been having lots of issues lately, spoke to the higher ups. She informed me about registering my interest about upgrading to FTTP. I just got approved, but my suburb isn't on the NBN list.

Do you think I'll have to pay to upgrade it or does Optus cover the cost?? Sorry for hijacking your comment,I didn't want to start a new thread.

        • nbn cover the install costs when you upgrade to FTTP through your ISP.

  • Go on Launtel until Tangerine does their thing?

    • I just realised there's a free trial for Launtel with the code OZBARGAIN. Perfect!

      • How did you go with this? My Superloop connection ceased at 11:59pm last night & I was expecting my FTTC connection would be picked up by Tangerine as today was the date I nominated for my service to commence, however, Tangerine have advised me they won't connect me till my FTTP appointment in a couple of weeks. I just tried to put a FTTC request through with Launtel to tide me over till then & was advised it was rejected by NBN due to there being a current inflight order with another ISP for my FTTP upgrade.

        • I got caught the same way by Tangerine. Paid for plan with FTTP upgrade. Paid with 3-4 day time frame confirmation from Tangerine to connect to NBN and FTTP upgrade up to 6 weeks. So I let my current ISP go and wait for Tangerine to connect. Nothing so I ring and get the same story but I have to wait 3 weeks without any internet. Considering cancelling in the 14 trial period but so hard to get to the right person to talk to they just put you on hold after the third person and don’t answer. Would not recommend them like above they don’t seem to understand they kept repeating that they put you on a FTTP and have to wait.

  • I got FTTP installed with Tangerine on a 500 plan and i get speeds of 50-35 mbps only. It did start with 100-120 at connection and it has dropped since. Dont know who to blame or talk to.
been 3 weeks since I heard from anyone about this issue.

    • To troubleshoot this join Launtel or Aussie BB free trials @ 250Mbps. They will tell you which ethernet port to use on the fibre NTD and configure your routers WAN from PPPoE to IPoE. This way your connection to Tangerine remains active. If the speeds go to 250Mbps you know it's a problem with Tangerine. If the speeds stay the same you might need a better router or replace a bad ethernet cable. What router are you using?
