7 Days Free nbn Trial (New Customers Only) @ Launtel

900

Needed something quick and temporary because Telstra stuffed up my service, signed up for Launtel last night and was connected within 15 minutes. Realised a few hours later that I never put in any payment details and got an email saying that my free trial ends after 7 days.

Connection has been rock solid so far, too bad I didnt choose the highest plan as I cant change it now without ending the trial lol

Prices after 7 days (Applicable for the first 6 months, the price will increase further after this period)

NBN 25/5 - $2.25 p/d
NBN 50/20 - $2.50 p/d
NBN Homefast 100/20 - $3 p/d
NBN 100/40 - $3.50 p/d

good option if you are between churning

  • I can also attest to Launtel's service - solid connection and daily rates for different speed tiers is great

  • +1

Same here. The customer service is outstanding and proactive as well. Love the flexibility.

  • +3

Dont forget the referral code to get $25 credit

    • Once you've loaded $50 I believe you then get the credit

      • After the trial 7 days..

    • Hi,
First time, how do I get the referral code?
      Thank you!

  • +1

Can you unsubscribe for the days that you don’t wanna use the internet ?

Like if I’m going away for the weekend, can I possibly pause it ?

    • +6

      Yes you can

      • With the discounted pricing, even after ithis sale ends?

    • Yes

    • +7

It works well, I travel a lot so I use it often, it saves me a heap… IMO if you're only going away for a weekend it's hardly worth doing just to save one days payment… (i.e leave Fri night, return Sunday night, you only avoid paying for Saturday)

Most the time the unpausing procedure is very fast, maybe 10 mins or so, occasionally/rarely it can take the NBN a couple of hours to do it… I generally unpause when I'm heading home so it's active by time I get home so I can avoid this occasional issue… It's real frustrating if you get home, unpause, and then it takes a couple of hours, lol… (It's not a big deal but it's worth being mindful of)

(I'm lucky to be on an old grandfathered $2 FW plan)

      • +7

Of course it would be frustrating! Imagine not being able to access OzBargain for nearly 2 hours…the horror!! ;-)

        • +2

Miss out on the toilet paper deals, then cry again in the toilet.

    • +1

You can but be aware that pausing/unpausing relies on automated NBN provisioning and must be done in advance so the service is disconnected before new day starts and is connected after the day ends. Even one second connected on the day will apply the charge. And since nobody can know how long NBN will take, there is no guarantee on this.
Most of the time it works absolutely fine - I have been connected in under 5 minutes several times. But sometime, NBN automated process may be broken so do not rely on disconecting 10 minutes before midnight.

  • +1

Connection has been rock solid so far, too bad I didnt choose the highest plan as I cant change it now without ending the trial lol

I thought you can?? Open a ticket, I'm sure they'll bounce you up to highest speed your connection can manage

  • +3

Launtel is excellent. Right now I'm using my mobile for 5g but I can switch it on anytime and just pay by the day. Highly recommended option and service is first class

  • +6

I'm using them at the moment - best NBN provider I've used so far (AussieBB, Superloop, Exetel and FutureBB). The ability to switch and change daily depending on usage needs is brilliant. - and rock solid connection, no congestion issues, and low latency on domestic and international.
Not the absolute cheapest if you compare plan to plan with some other providers, but can work out much more cost effective if manage your plan/speed tier. Eg. During work days, I can use 250/100 or 500/200 as the upload is great for work, but then over the weekend when there's pretty much just streaming, 100/20 is more than adequate (knowing I can always bump up speed in ~5 mins at any point anyway). Being on FTTP, I can also do a day on 1000/400 if I've got a lot of data to move. Just brilliant!

    • What modem do they supply ?

      • +3

        BYO

      • I dont think they supply hardware, you just go buy what ever you like….

  • +1

Launtel has been great for me as they have a solid network. Best telco, they are proactive as opposed to reactive like many other telcos. Never had issues. To those signing up, don’t forget about the bonus referral codes!

  • +1

Lovin my Telstra connection, have tried soo many providers. Its usually always NBN stuffing up things not the ISPs…

    • +1

Nah, mine was 100% Telstra incompetence. Went to return my modem for my parents service, but they cancelled my own service instead. And then offered me a $75 for 6 months plan instead of giving me free time. Husband lost a whole WFH day as I only got home at like 5pm.

      • Agree telstra are morons just took me 5 months to upgrade from fttn to fttp but I got $90 250/25 and multiple gen 3 modems from them

    • +4

Launtel will proactively chase the NBN to get problems fixed though.
I can honestly say I've never had better service from any company.

They even rang me on my connection day to ask why I wasn't hooked up yet, as I was too busy moving furniture in. A lot of the time I was even dealing with Damien, the business owner. Felt like I had a whole team working to get me connected.

      • +2

Honestly had no idea that it was so well done. Your comment made me look them up. Ticks heaps of boxes, Australian owned/customer support, good service and really calling to check you to make sure your service works is brilliant.

Edit: the daily fee makes price comparisons hard but I like the idea of it anyway

  • Currently on Superloop FTTB and about to move into a FTTP, I'm really considering Launtel for their flexibility and from what others are saying. Might see if Superloop can match the $120/month for 1000/50 for new customers they have on their website since that's technically cheaper than Launtel's $4.60/day.

    • Superloop does not have 1000/50 only I can see:

      500Mbps/50Mbps1
      500Mbps Typical Evening Speed2
      3TB Data3

It's not unlimited data if you are heavy user

      • Superloop definitely does have 1000/50 (I’m on that plan). But you’re right that it's not currently appearing on their website!?

        • what are you paying for the plan 1000/50 if you dont mind me asking

        • I have enquired about their 1000/50 plan, unfortunately they are not anymore offering it

  • The above prices the op have quoted may be different depending which POI you are connected to.

Been with Launtel for nearly two years great service and I love the 400/50 plan!

    • Ahh yes, I could only see fttn pricing

  • Worth considering for 400/50 @ $4.10/day (for most) if you're on FTTP/HFC and eligible.

  • +3

Launtel's per day pricing model, if used continually, is less cost effective than other provider's monthly pricing plans.

    • I would say the attraction of Launtel would be the day to day plans, like if you needed something temporary between churning. It looks pretty comparable to other full price nbn plans out there, obv not factoring in the first 6 months discount.

    • They can have different prices depending on your area. For my area they’ve got discounted prices and come out very competitive for higher speed plans.

  • this is nothing new, but its a great way to get temporary internet or try before buying and as others have said the day to day nature of the service is very handy if you're going away for a period of time and don't need to leave your internet connected or even just lower your speed to save money… have been a very happy customer for a while now

  • +1

LOL - I know the guy who's in the thumbnail image. +1 for a local Launnie business!

    • Don't you have to pay a full premium price for Launtel plans in Launceston,(ie can get cheaper prices elsewhere in Australia) due to some arrangement they have with NBN?

      • Not necessarily. It's dependent on the POI you connect through - if it's their own POI they can usually do a slightly better price, but if it's through a third-party POI then they pay whatever the wholesale cost is and add their margin on top of that.

  • +1

Only reason I'm not currently using Launtel is because I'm on free offers at the moment (and I've still been tempted to not deal with Aussie/Origin or Telstra). Stuck it out though and will be back to Launtel next week.

I had some issues with Telstra as well, so connected to Launtel, but didn't end up plugging in the router and they tried to contact me to see if I needed help getting set up. Speeds are always good, quick and easy to set up (just goes onto the next port for FTTP), can manage your plan yourself online, changing speeds/cancelling or pausing/reconnecting.

For the service and speeds their pricing is decent for >100/20. If you're on FTTP, even if you decide not to go with them, it would make a great back up service. Didn't try them on FTTN, so can't comment.

  • +1

    I don't get it…prices look pretty horrible for a month - 100/20 = $90-$93???

    • +2

Launtel aren't a bargain focused ISP. They have extremely low CVC usage, routing via GSL, extremely low latency and all onshore support.

  • Would it be possible to test it on top of my current connection without switching out?

    • Yeh, I'm fairly sure you can have up to 4, one on each Uni-D port..

      • I am on FTTB though, I am afraid I do not have Uni-D port..

        • Oh, sorry, I have no idea with FTTB… Maybe shoot Launtel a message and ask…

          • @FLICKIT: @Illuxz It will only work on FTTP. If you enter your address details into their service checker on the next page there are some FAQs, one of them specifically addresses this question.

            • @Chazzozz:

It will only work on FTTP

and Fixed Wireless I believe, my NTD has the 4 Uni-D ports… (fairly sure I was still with Internode when I signed up with Launtel in Jan 2018…

  • never used nbn or any wired internet. what do you need to set up?

  • +1

We moved 6 weeks ago and have FTTP now. Been with launtel since then. Best NBN RSP to date.

You truly get what you pay for with these guys. Do not mind paying a bit extra. WFH for the day. Up the plan do the work for the day , go back to usual plan.

    Sincerely no complaints at all!

  • guys, never churned on an NBN before. If you churn to another provider (my connection is FTTN), do I need to change my modem settings or is it just like changing electricity? NBN will switch the service automatically to Launtel? Can anyone confirm?

    • I just did it last night, I didn't have any active service but it just worked, so I didn't need to go to the modem page or anything. At most you would probably reset the router.

  • Does it include home phone calls?

    • I don't think Launtel provide residential phone services…

    • They don't do phone services.

    • If you want to churn to take advantage of free months or discounted promotions then you don't want the isp to provide home phone calls as it's a drag on churning. Unlike mobile number porting landline porting takes weeks.

      Try CrazyTel.

  • Another awesome thing ive not seen mentioned is with Launtel you can pay $100 to lease a Static IP which you will fully get back if you decide to give up the static IP or leave Launtel.

Ive been with them for a little over two years now and can honestly say they have been the best ISP ive ever been with.

    • When I saw the option 5 weeks ago I couldn't send the money fast enough.

I can hand on heart say their reviews truly reflect how good they are.

  • +1

+1 for Launtel and highly recommended.
I have being moving around different ISP's (testing) for the past 6 months. Launtel who I have been with for 2+ years are by a long shot the best out there customer service wise.

The content provided within your online account with them is also fantastic i.e. a lot of stats and control to see what is really going on. Their pricing may (or not) be a little higher than others however they are rock solid and in my experience at least the best I have come across.

  • -2

Rather Superloop their plans not cheap

    • +1

Nothing in the title indicating that they are cheap so you can't really compare to Superloop who in fact aren't that cheap either.
Launtel is more about decent, reliable service and being looked after wherever possible. Sometimes it's worth paying a few dollars more per year. Certainly not for those looking for cheapest deals out there.

      • No Launtel is a lot more expensive we are talking 100/20 at $90 a month vs $70 first 6 months. Extra $120 for 6 months that's half a Samsung A23 phone

My connection is reliable better than Telstra

Free 7 trial has been a thing for a while so I don't see this as a deal. Before covid they had better deals with discounts

IMO most of the time is NBN and your connection to exchange or the nodes or path at your street or suburb than ISP. I would say 60/40 ratio for issues

        • Well i needed something quick but temporary, i didnt see this deal for Launtel but signed up anyway. Then got an email that Im on a 7 day free trial and thought it was pretty sweet. I know other ISP's have 'money back guarantee' but youll need to enter your payment details and probably submit or speak to someone to get your money back. I didnt even have to put in payment details for this, so hassle free.

Also good if you are on FTTN and want to see how fast your nbn can potentially be without committing to a month.

        • +1

Superloop works out to be only $51 cheaper per year long term and not everyone wants to keep changing ISP's to gain specials. Only a topic if pricing is of importance.

I do agree with you though in that this is more just a "ongoing" deal and not really a bargain. Prices were also cheaper last year and that there were better deals. I can only guess that Launtel are happy with clients that are not penny pinchers and in turn focus their attention more towards customers looking for a more boutique experience.

I also agree that most faults are out of the fixing range of the ISP. Launtel however unlike many providers do however check, let you know the facts (for good or for bad). They also follow-up and where possible do go out of their way to assist with resolving.

          • -1

@Borg: Yes I know what you mean. However I'm tech savvy myself so I don't really need to contact support if and only if there was an outage and usually it's not just me but everyone at my suburb.

Otherwise it's a fault of NBN which nothing the ISP can do except checking status or maintenance over etc

Anyway personally I'm not getting value by switching to Launtel because i don't use flex plans nor I would engage their support so that's no value for me. If your NBN is working fine most of the time, prefer to get a cheaper plan

It has been like this since ADSL 2 era with TPG then Cable with Telstra, NBN with ABB then Superloop

  • Been with Telstra for 11 years and they have finally given me the sh!ts (moving me to a slower plan and charging me more) that I'll be finally moving away from them.

Launtel looks like a good option, I'm not looking for the cheapest, but the most reliable (which Telstra has been congested of late during peak times).

If I churn, do I need to notify Telstra? Or will the churn process disconnect from the old provider like mobile phone churning?

  • I'd love to go back to them, their service is the best I have seen.
But the prices are different for me than listed above, perhaps being FTTN

    50/20 = 3.40
    100/20 = 3.50
    100/40 = 4.00

Still just outside of Aussie BB for me, and they have also been excellent
Hope to go back one day

    • im on FTTN as well, the price i listed was after your prices were crossed out, maybe my pricing is for new customers only

      • possibly.
As I said - I was a customer a year or so ago - so maybe that's why I can't see the new pricing.
Seems a shame not to offer this to past customers.
        Would close the gap

MInd you, if I was an existing cutomer paying more, I would not be impressed

    • I'm on 100/20 and I pay $3.25 per day

  • -1

    Thank you.

How do I stop the free trial after 7 days ?

I mean I do not want to get charge if I go over the 7 days

    • Took only 4 minutes to connect.

It will turn off by itself after 7 days.

      Perfect

    • I didn't put down any form of payment, I guess your internet will just stop after 7 days?

      • Slowed to like 1k/s or something

  • I have a 50mb plan, speedtest always shows 55mb and I have 11ms ping in League which is the lowest I’ve ever seen. Been a customer for 2 years and have no plans to move from them.

  • I used to go for AussieBB, Launtel, Superloop. 250/25 on HFC. Paid a premium, then got sucked in by the More Telecom Commbank deal and am only paying $83/month for 250/25. Was worried that the service wouldn’t be as good

Honestly can’t tell the difference (downloads, YouTube, Netflix 4K, remote connection to work, Xbox), and just as reliable.

    • +1

Everyone's usage is different. You can't tell with streaming as they use content delivery service. The websites you visit might be on the good routes and the game you play might be on servers which has good pings, this might be too do with their points of presence and routing

That doesn't mean it's the same for others as the stuff they connect to is in another region or game servers which requires low latency. Some might need to connect via VPN for good speed as their ISP default routes are not configured to optimise your specific usage etc

I have not seen an ISP which has good pings all around the globe for gaming. Example: ABB good for US, poor to Asia. Superloop good to Asia, poor to Europe. Launtel good for Asia and US, not so for Europe. This is just based on my testing before. YMMV. I reckon it's cause we are so far away from rest of the world it cannot be helped all relying on undersea cable

  • -1

    Can confirm, Launtel are excellent.

  • Hi so i just create an account and then get the 7 day trial? I can only get FTTN and the download speed is not much more than 25Mbps/sec, do you think trying the 50Mbps speed would be better to see what speed i can achieve?

    • +1

You can make it a 100 plan to see if it is faster as it is free for 7 days. Remember with Launtel, you can chop and change daily as they charge by the day. Change is usually very quick (within minutes).

  • This is perfect, I'm moving in 7 days

  • -4

Launtel isn't competitive if using on a daily bases, it's more for travellers.

    • Or holiday home makers or AirBnB

    • wonder why the Negs, probably Launtel supporters trying to hide the truth

      • 7 Days Free nbn Trial (New Customers Only) @ Launtel - OzBargain

probably Launtel supporters trying to hide the truth

🤣. Perhaps your comment isn't balanced is why the negs?

Launtel is a premium offer with premium price but the value is there, especially if you have FTTN or Fixed Wireless.

Customer service is top notch though and pro-active. There not just script readers.

It maybe a few loyal customer's, especially if there is any issues with NBN such as hardware faults.

  • -1

2.50 per day for 50/20 thats quite expensive, thats $70 for 30 days

    • +5

You have shitty equipments and want to blame Launtel ?

      • +2

        It looks that way:

        on the 1000/50 plan
        default Belong modem
        old Telstra Smart Modem
        budget modem an TP-Link AC1200

It might be wise to Google something like>> router for 1000 mbps << you need a quality not old or budget…

        • wanted to ask similar question

I am with Telstra 50/20 and using their Technicolour TG799vac gateway - will it work with same plan 50/20 Launtel ?

(I checked on whirlpool page of NBN compatible modems and it is there, but I'd appreciate any real life feedback)

          • +1

@SurprisedPanda: I'm certainly no expert but if it's working now on Telstra NBN it should work fine on Launtel NBN… 50mbps isn't exactly demanding on the gear, if you wanted to try a gigabit NBN plan then you'd probably have to look at a more capable router I assume…

    • +2

      🤣🤣That's what called self-incriminating testimony:

7 Days Free nbn Trial (New Customers Only) @ Launtel - OzBargain

well I get the 800mbps on a Wired connection on my Xbox

If you get fast speeds on Wired connection to router, then it's not Launtel's or NBN's fault but your router's wifi antenna or chips.

I hope they don't extend your free trial as you seem to be a suck on resources better spent elsewhere on things within Launtel's or NBN control.

Their support hasn't been too helpful either. At the time of writing this I have 2 days left of my trial and I don't think I will be back unless they extended my trial for the issues I have been experiencing as I have not been able to enjoy the speeds what so ever.

Contact the router's manufacturing support or router users online community. Telstra Smart Modem is quite popular so there is an active user community.

You could also try unofficial user support - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12498602/redir

    • Why are you using a modem on what I assume is FTTP/HFC with those speeds you ordered from Launtel?

As others have pointed out, it could be the equipment you're using that's giving you less than ideal results
