Vittoria mountain grown coffee, big price drop

What's going on here?
Coles and Woolworths have dropped the regular price of what was one of Vittoria's "premium" blends from $39 to $23.

Of course it has long been frequently on special for "half price" or similar, so it not a complete shock. But now the sticker price is a lot lower than their standard blend at $33, and close to the Italian blend at $21. Coffee taste is very subjective, but I'm not personally a fan of the latter.
So what is going on in the coffee business? I thought I'd read that wholesale prices were heading up dramatically.

Is their "Mountain Grown" not so popular? I did a taste test and my friends mostly preferred it to the Lavazza offerings.

It used to go on special for $15 a few years ago, then $18.xx, last week it was $19.50 for the half price special.
Perhaps it’s part of the plan where coles or wools said they’d be doing less half price specials and giving lower everyday prices?

It’s my favourite one of the cheap coffees.

Yes, most if not all so-called half priced items have inflated prices. Their everyday prices are about 60% of the inflated prices. You can shop for them, but not save that much like you think.

On a side note, Amazon Au appears to be having a sale of the Lavazza 1kg packs. All of them are sub $20.

  • Vittoria Mountain blend tastes like ass. Go the aldi beans like a true Ozbargainer

I wouldn't know what ass (or do you mean arse?) tastes like, but I defer to your experience. Each to his own though. Taste is subjective. I don't like "burnt" flavour.

        Lol, paging the burns unit….

  • Well that didn’t last long. It was back to $39 when I checked yesterday.

    • Yep, noticed today when were down to our last bag of Organic beans … $23 to $39 is a huge jump seeing they are advertising they’ve dropped prices of thousands of items.. yeah sure they have.

      • Bought 2kg yesterday whilst it was “half price” at $19.25 a kg.

        • Yeah i used to buy it ages ago at half price for $18, before the normal was $23.

I expect it to be half price every few weeks again like it used to be last year when norm was $37
