St.George Amplify Qantas Platinum Card: $0 1st Year Fee for Existing Customer, Save $99 (+ Bonus 60,000 Qantas Points)

891

60,000 Bonus QFF Points with $3,000 Spend in 90 Days

Good little card for those of us that like a bit of the ol' churny churn. First year annual card fee waived for existing St George customers, gotta apply before 30 June 2022.

Better than it was a few months back, now that they've made it $0 annual fee for the first year. Not as good as their $2000 in 3 months spend that they came out with in 2020, but I'll take it.

Rates and fees
$0 card fee for the first year ($99 thereafter)
0.5 point earned for every dollar spent on eligible purchases
19.49% p.a. low variable interest rate on purchases
21.49% p.a. variable cash advance rate

Existing customers who currently hold an Amplify, Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

Got declined for this card ($6k limit) even though I just came off the NAB deal with $15k limit. I actually got a pay bump and bonus as well since the NAB card.

The call centre people insisted that the income was not sufficient and that was the reason for decline, but yeah I definitely find that highly suspicious. They also don't tell you the app's been declined until you call up, so definitely call up after a couple weeks of not hearing anything.

Criteria is exceptionally tough - they are tight AF.

Also got declined years ago the first time I applied for st george and westpac when income definitely wasn't an issue. Tried again a few months later since I was out of banks to churn and got accepted without further question. Does feel like they're throwing darts at a board to determine eligibility sometimes. From reading OZB comments it seems at least with ANZ they actually review it over the phone if you call them.

I used to collect QFF points dreaming 200k pts would allow me 'around the world' trip. Is that still achievable?

    • +1

That gets you around the world in economy, biz class is 318k.

    • +1

While that's the cost of the award, keep in mind you have to be able to book everything at the time of claiming the award. And with around the worlds they often extend over extended periods, so if you book a year out to get departure availability, further legs aren't available. And by the time you wait till the last segment back, the departure legs are already gone.

      They're very difficult to book.

      • Brutal takedown but true.

      • You don't have to book it all at once. You can add stuff one as you go. There used to be a change fee of 5k for changes. Don't think that's been implemented at the moment which helps as well.

  • im not seeing that $99 fee as $0

nor am i seeing the "existing customers link" either

have to login with your St George internet banking, then log out, then refresh the page linked in this post. Showed up for me on both Chrome and Edge.

Needed to call them to get the application approved but otherwise quite painless. Got the bonus points the month I hit the $3000 spend.

    • Do you know if bills count towards the spend?

  • It does as long as it isn't towards government bills like licence rego, or other govt-related agencies.

  • For me, St George and BankSA are the worst in processing application. They kept sending me notification that requires more documents, etc and in fact they only need to merge my profile into one. Been sending all required docs and still not being processed. They said they have emailed the relevant department to progress and it has been 2 weeks without progress. How hard it is to merge profiles into one ??

  • I'm logged in, but where do you go to find the $0 option?

    • Did you login via the app or desktop? I can see that offer there.

      • All good, scrolled down and saw the $0 offer is below the standard $99 up front offer. Weird that they leave the normal offer in place.

        • Is this offer still available? Can't see it on internet banking desktop app

  • Anyone know if St George give you a virtual card to use while you are waiting for the physical card to arrive? (Westpac do this, so thought St George might).

    • I've been approved but there's nothing in there about a digital card.

    • +2

Not with StG. Need to wait for physical card.

  • I know it's been asked before, but do I need to sign up first for $0 fees or is there a separate link for $0 offer? Mine shows $99 currently

    • If you're a st George customer you get $0 fees. Easiest way is to sign in online banking then apply for the card. It will fill your details that you're existing customer

      • And if you're not a st george customer, is it necessary to open an account with them?

        • Yep obivously otherwise you gotta cough up the 99 bucks

        • Don't forget to lay-low for a week or two else you may get instant rejection

          • @timhn: I signed up for a stgeorge account, deposited funds & waited two days, then applied for the credit card and was approved no problem.

Was just denied an application for this one despite having no issues on my credit report, 'excellent' ratings, high 6 figure salary.

I called them up and they couldn't/wouldn't give me a reason.

Thanks St George for the black mark on my credit report with a rejected application now.

      Had the same with ANZ.

No worries chased them up for two months and after some callbacks, and failed Messenger attempts - I left an angry message publicly on their Facebook page.

Three days later (left it on a Friday), my application was approved. Funny that.

This has been by far the worst application ever for me. Applied 1 month ago, provided payslips during application. Asked several status updates via sms ranging from : "we're processing" " we had a lot of applications".

After 1 month I get an email my application will expire soon, unless I take action - asking for the exact same payslips again. So I uploaded them via their website (again) and sent them via email, again no response. So after they were verifying income for my application they needed payslips again?

    • Yikes! I suppose I should be grateful that I got instantly rejected. Signed up for the Suncorp Clear Options card that's currently on www.rwrds.com.au and got instantly approved. Perhaps give Suncorp a try if this goes no where (assuming you're chasing Krisflyer points).

      • More Qantas points, but I'm slowly giving up on that. Was about to achieve points club plus and needed 90k more.

  • Has anyone gotten their bonus yet? I met my spend but no bonus

    • St George is one of the slower ones ie the points gets paid out on the following statement. Also got charged the fee but they quickly credited it back after hitting them up through web chat.

  • I was also charged a card fee despite being a st George member… wtf

    • Ring them up, they should refund you. I've rung them before when they stuffed up and charged me interest when I had an interest free card with them, and they fixed it up for me
