    HODL M2

    • +10

You will be waiting for at least 6 months if not more. No point in waiting.

      • Possibly even longer. I ordered an M1 Max 2 months ago and it still hasn't shipped. I think China's strict covid zero policy has really screwed up Apple's supply chain.

  • -1

    Isn't it better than m2?

    • +8

bait for wenchmarks but yeah almost certainly.

  • +5

Man been waiting literally years for the M2 Air only to realise that the 14" Pro is better value for what I need. Also can't get myself to go for this, given OW did this deal on the higher end model just a few days ago. Had the chance to buy it, but decided to wait for the M2 Air announcement, very much regretting it now!

I think I'll hold off for the M1 Pro 10/16C + 1TB, solid deal for the base model though!

    • Same. Very disappointed with the M2 MacBook Pro. Missing out on that OW deal is a huge mistake

    • Rule of thumb: if an Apple product starts consistently going on sale, a new model is immanent

Another good rule is if it's discounted through Apple's EPP, same thing.

      • +2

Obviously… That applies to basically any brand… The problem here is no one knows what to expect with a tech product until it comes out, so you can never be sure if you should buy or hold off.

        • -3

I mean, no, it doesn't apply to "basically any brand"

because most brands have a natural price decline over time, while Apple keeps their prices the same at all times.

          • +1

@TheRealCJ: but they still have consistent sales when a new model is imminent, which is what you said originally…

    • Whats wrong with the M2 Air? The price?

      • +2

For me it's price especially for only 256gb/8gb

        • -4

If only you could upgrade /s

          • +6

@casho: Obviously you can but paying $2649 for 512gb storage and 16gb ram is a lot for what's supposed to be the entry level mac.

            • +3

@yanyan1: And you cant even connect 3 monitors without spending some more on displaylink and stuff.

      • +4

Only being able to output to a single screen is a major drawback for me, but once I spec it out to the level I want, even with discounts - its so close to the Pro on discount, that I'd rather spend a bit extra and get the Pro.

        • You still can connect 2 monitors tho, with that displaylink stuff. But its a bummer it costs so much and cannot support 2 monitors by default.

          • @John Doh: Yeah, too inconvenient at that price point - and again, a little push towards the Pro, which I'm sure is a deliberate move by Apple.

            • @poppingtags: At this point I dont even know whats the point in releasing an 13 M2 Pro when Air looks better. They could have just stuck a fan in the air and discontinued the 13 Pro.

              • @John Doh: Yeah, that was a very strange move.

              • @John Doh: It is to have a lower entry price for a “pro” MBP. And it has a fan for sustained heavy load.
And there is probably a small market for the Touch Bar. This is it.

And a major point of the air is fanless for those that don’t punish their laptop. Eg most school laptops.

                • @entropysbane: Not sure how hot it gets. I would rather have a fan inside when laptops on my lap.

                  • @John Doh: Apparently pretty good. Doesn’t get very hot and really heavy load it just slows down. If I was doing a lot of 4K video editing I would go the models with fans.

                    • @entropysbane: You are absolutely right, I happned to get a spare 13MBP 8GB from office today to experiment over the weekend. Configured everything required for a backend dev and ran some projects and compiled them. After 2 hours, battery is at 85% and the whole laptop is cool to touch. The rooms at 21C and the fan never got to turn on.

      • -1

No fan. Not suitable for me.

    • I was sad to miss out on OW deal as well because no stock in WA OW at all so couldn’t purchase it at :(

      • I reckon that deal was a mistake, but yes, I am also bummed to have missed it (my fault, I had it in the cart and plenty of time to check out).

  • +1

Love my 14”inch MBP, just irks me that it has the least battery life out of all the others in the m1 range lol

    • +11

Must be tough to plug in every 12 hours ;-)

    • +1

      Same power small chassis. Lol.

      • I’m just happy y’all let me a first world problem whinge on Ozbargain! Haha

  • -1

So why on earth is the silver 16” edition not discounted?

  • Osborne'd .. Who would buy one knowing M2 will be here soon

    • +1

It's still mid cycle. Not sure a new model is imminent https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#MacBook_Pro_16

      • Agree, I think we’re still a number of months away yet, could easily be another 6 months. Planning to get one when it drops, although every change they’ll jack the price a little given what they did with the MBA.

    • +1

People who want a bargain? 🤷🏻‍♀️
If you need or want it now, why wait to pay full price for the next generation. Or wait until the next generation goes on sale only to be told don’t buy this there’s yet another new one coming. There’ll never be a right time to buy in other people’s eyes.

For those asking this or the M2 air, it would be this any day of the week if you are even thinking about upgrading the ram or storage on the air. 8gb is arguably not enough these days and at a price point of $300 per 8gb added and another $300 for 256gb added, you quickly have an air that costs very close to this. However, with this you get the added advantage of extra ports, comes with a free fast charger, better display, can connect to multiple displays, better speakers etc.

Also note: the 14 inch MBP is cheaper from the Apple aoc store. I had no problems ordering from there and with discounted apple giftcards, you could end up paying less than $2400.

  • Seems like its really hard to get a deal on a 16" M1 Pro considering all these shortages.

  • +2

Seems like the price has gone up, now 7% off only.

  • +1

I would only consider buying a MBP 14" if the price is close to the OW deal a few days back.

Can't convince myself to pay a few hundreds more for the same thing and I am not in need of a new laptop anyway. (I bet most people are on the same boat)

    • Why not a 16?

  • +5

For the average consumer, the M1 Mac Air, its great value.

  • OOS

  • What windows counterpart competes with this laptop at that price range in terms of performance, screen, battery life, keyboard and trackpad, and speakers?

    • Dell XPS, HP spectre.
The MBP is better built overall, but price!!

  • +1

Studio cost less than $3k at Costco and Apple EDU store, with great CPU/GPU and 32Gb ram, unless you absolutely need a laptop…

  • Trying to figure out what to buy apple is so annoying.
THis is good value but if you want to future proof and get 32GB ram it gets crazy expensive.

Looking at the education store, a m2 air with 24GB RAM is $2739 which is just above this price but still much better than the $3309 quoted on this model Pro with 32GB ram.

Have to say though the new air is sexy even if you have to compromise on some things

    • the M1Pro in this MBP will no doubt outperform the new M2 Air in multicore.

  • Does anybody know whats the cheapest adapter I can buy to connect 2 monitors to a 13" M1 MBP? I need an HDMI(2560X1440) and DVI monitor(1920X1200) connected. Thanks.
