I cannot emphasize how terrible Uppercut's matte clay is.

It is oil based and does not easily wash out of your hair. Styling is a nightmare. Even with adequate heat plying in your fingers it is difficult to transfer properly and spread in your hair.

What does transfer It makes your hair stick together (not in a good way) and stiffens up before you can do anything.

I style with a comb and this is pretty much impossible. YMMV with hands.

Adding water to soften doesn't work, you're just left with a slimy top layer that you then have to wait to dry. And you can't wash it out to restyle, even if you jump back in the shower you're stuck with it!

      What do you suggest?

Everyone's hair is different but my daily go to is Suavecito original (900g+ tub economical).

Special occasions I really liked Baxters of California clay. Want to try their wet pomade and compare at some point.

        • I don’t mind the clay but only when my hair is quite short to give it a messy/textured look and can’t use too much otherwise it clumps.

I like the hold of Suavecito when using a comb for a sharper look but can’t handle the strong scent personally.

@Chickenleg: I like the smell of Suavecito. Personal preference. But yeah it's strong so if you don't like it avoid.

Uppercut clay smells like damp leather if anyone's wondering.

        • have you tried jack the barber how does it compare with suavecito, baxters or upppercut?

@[Deactivated]: That's the one from Coles yeah?

It held my hair and was good enough for every day (I think it was like $7 on sale or something but this 2020 or so). Weak smell but that's to be expected.

Hold was on the lighter side but it was easy to apply and wash out. You might just wind up using a little bit more per application.

If you're going out and you've had it in all day might need a rinse and reapply. Don't have to do that with Suavecito or Baxters, just dampen comb and restyle.

@[Deactivated]: jacks it quite good for the price but Everybody's hair is different. Worth trying different ones on sale or getting the tester kits so you find one that suits your hair . Don't buy big tub of something unless you tried it first.

            • @ubcool: thanks. where do you get the testing kits? I did not know, you can get that except for perfumes.

Suavecito is the best pomade I have tried

I agree - it’s more of a personal preference, I find Ubersuave’s water based wax and clay easy to wash off. I have short to medium hair and I use the white one.

    • Personally i never use the clay before, maybe that is why giving it away for free..their other products are pretty good and water based..

      • Can't speak of Uppercut's other pomades as haven't used them. They can't be worse than the clay :D.

  • Thanks bought 👍
