  • I wonder what the difference between this 5w-30 and the European version is. Is it the same thing and they are charging a premium price to have a few Euro brands listed on the label?

Should be safe to use whichever as long as you confirm with your cars manual. So for eg: if the car manual has API SM or SL it's fine to use API SN which is much higher grade and better than SM / SL. So always buy at or above the spec specified in your manual. If it just says 5w30 synthetic then it should be fine to use any 5w30 synthetic/ full synthetic

euro version usually complies to VW504/507 with low SAPS spec

      • Looks like this is mid SAPS. Thanks

Euro is typically group 4 and 5 oils (full synthetic)
This "full synthetic" is made from group 3 base stock which isn't a full synthetic.

10+ years ago Castrol won a case to call group 3 oils fully synthetic so every other oil manufacturer had to jump on board as well to maximise profits by letting people think they are getting fully synthetic oils when they aren't.

If you want fully synthetic Nulon Racing and Penrite 10 Tenths are group 4/5, as too are Amsoil and Redline oils and. You won't see a real full synthetic for less than $80-100+

      • Not sure if Group 3 but I’ve been using Penrite for a very long time without any issues but was looking to change brands for occasional deals such as this.

  • Is it in store or online also?

  • Perfect!

    Says $71 for me

I stocked up from autobarn for $22.99 on their last sale. After that, $35 doesn't feel so cheap!

  • I've been using Penrite GF-5 5W-30 in 2 cars, got about 3L left from last change.
Thoughts on mixing oil brands? (4L and 4.6L needed)

Haven't used Nulon before. Guess would still be cheaper than buying more Penrite at the moment (cheapest I can find atm is Sparesbox ebay, $50, $68 and $95 for 5L, 7L, 10L)

    • I wouldn't hesitate to mix oil brands to use up what I have as long as the weight is right and it's a good oil.

  • Managed to get $30 off $50 with afterpay. So bought this, ryco filter and engine flush for $31.
