What Game Would You Like Turned into a Series/Movie?

As the subject asks - What game would you like turned into a series/movie?

Horizon Zero Dawn - The Last of Us - Final Fantasy (preferably X) are in my top 3.

Historically movie adaptations have been disastrous (Hitman, Prince of Persia and Assassins Creed to name a few), however the Halo series gave me a cautious level of optimism that there's good out there…

      • rofl, better job than portraying Jack Reacher lol

Looking forward to Fallout, written/produced/directed by one of the sharpest minds in film/tv - Jonathan Nolan

    • Industry job postings for extras and stunt people for filming from late June, through to mid August in New York! Not sure how long post production will be; probably 2023 release - I'm excited.

  • Raid shadow legends could possibly be interesting

    Warhammer

      Yes to Yakuza!

I think God of War will be pretty interesting, especially when they cross over to different mythologies

    • Came to say this.

The tone could really be like Firefly.

jokes aside, i think a non-typical show in the zelda universe could be very cool (as long as it's not about link and zelda)

  • +1

I agree with OP. Final Fantasy X or 8 would be cool. I think there is already a a FF7 movie.

  • +3

    Leisuresuit Larry ;-)

  • None, they all work best in video game forms.

But for the sake of not copping out of the question, I think valve's team fortress 2 would be fun to watch considering the short film they make are already top notch.

    The Dig

Ohh S.T.A.L.K.E.R or Half Life would be good too

  • +2

    Deus Ex.
Starting off around Adam Jensen then moving further down the seasons to JC Denton

    • This would be interesting. You should check out Almost Human. Not quite the same but a good watch. Sadly only 1 season!

    Nokia Snake!!

Grand theft auto could literally be a masterpiece of a series

Showing my age here, but I grew up in the 90's so games like the below would be cool:

Hugo: Whodunit - nice little "murder" mystery / puzzle movie
Commander Keen series - space man working through various maps to liberate all areas
Early Doom Games - Demon slayer working his way though the world, killing demons and finding hidden passages and items

    • +1

The Hugo games were so good. Had no idea what a rubber bung was but apparently it can be used to plug a hole in a boat.

      • +1

Agree, they were some of my fondest early 'gaming' memories - where you really had to think of your next move and how best to articulate it. I learnt a lot through those games, especially to never drop matches into water when crossing a bridge because nothing you do will ever dry them out haha

  • Starcraft

  • +1

    Chrono Trigger for sure!

    • Loved that game!

    • I'd raise you with Terranigma! or Secret of Mana

  • original Duke Nukem

  • +2

    Fallout!

  • Crysis

    • The Farcry adaption sadly didn't work. Who to blame.. Boll or Schweiger? someone else perhaps.

  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses. They could even do all the different storylines as alternate realities

  • +1

    Warhammer 40k.
SO much lore to build upon.

Franchise could rival big comics but needs a super polished AAA series or film to break into the wider consciousness. And where to start - so many worthy moments.

      Name checks out

  • we love katamari

that would be a trip and a half.

    • There is a short story by Clive Barker, sorry I don't remember the name but it's about these two towns who have this traditional competition where the townspeople somehow join together to form a giant and they both fight. Definitely trippy

  • Under a killing moon

  • Planescape Torment.

  • TLOU my fav game ever (number 1 not 2) is on the way, budget is 10mil per episode, slated for 10 eps first season

  • Toe Jam & Earl.
    Psychonauts.
    Half Life.
    Gears of War.

  • Indigo Prophecy
    Beyond Good & Evil

  • Oh man, Subnautica. Though there's a lot of survival/beast movies out there, but it would be cool.

Dark Souls if it could done by a peculiar artist, think the movie version of Miyazaki. A minimal spoken fantasy horror/action movie. Key elements to be told through subtle background cues, facial expressions, symbolic cues etc. Very few movies can achieve this.

  • Dead By Daylight

  • You realize that the last of us is about to come out soon as a TV series and there is a final fantasy movie?

My pick would be making Morrowind into a TV show. Then Shemue and Jet Set Radio.

    • Ff movie can eat my <profanity>

  • +1

    FEAR

  • Doki Doki Literature Club!

  • How about Fast & Furious - The Game - The Movie

  • Best Video Game movies for me so far have been the original Tomb Raider, Uncharted, Detective Pikachu and Sonic. Special mention to DOA: Dead or Alive. Tomb Raider and DOA are big guilty pleasures for me.

I used to be excited for video game movies back in the days of Halo Landfall. But Hollywood rarely get it right.

If they did it right. I would like to see:
    Mass Effect
    Bioshock
    Resident Evil
    Halo
    Red Dead
    Zelda
    Gears of War
    Bayonetta
    Fallout
    Last of Us

Pretty much any of the greats

    • +2

Can't believe Red Dead Redemption took so long to get a mention!! Easily number one for mine, probably better suited to a series.

Aren't there like 7 or 8 Resident Evil movies already? Or were you saying they haven't gotten it right yet?

      • Yep theres a tonne of Resident Evil movies. And correct, thats what I meant. None of them have gotten it right.

I play RE2 Remake through constantly. Such a great game. A well paced horror/detective movie could be great. Maybe mix in a bit of "It Follows" in as well.

  • Alone in the dark, would be pretty awesome

  • +1

    The Monkey Island Series

  • +3

    Read Dead Redemption 2

  • +2

Red Dead Redemption 2 and Bioshock probably have some of the best stories of any game I've played. Rdr2 was so cinematic throughout and playing as Arthur near the end of the game is an emotional experience lol

    • I hope RDR2 becomes the benchmark rather than the peak of the story driven genre. Hopefully it partly explains the anticipated long delays for the GTA6 release.

  • +1

    Oddworld

    • Actually that would be awesome

  • Colony Wars Vengeance on Ps1.

Problem with movies have only basically 2hrs to tell complete story, where games can take their time to tell a detailed story. No way can do justice to a story based game, why so many video game based movies are terrible.

  • The 7th Guest.

    Betrayal at Krondor.

  • Apex Legends

  • Ghost of Tsushima

  • Anachronox. The weakest part of the game is the gameplay. The story is potentially great. Would require a series.

  • Jones in the Fast Lane

  • Fatal Frame
    Metal Gear
    Abes Odyssey

But in a good (silent hill) way, not like the halo TV series.

  • Star Wars the force unleashed.

  • Alan Wake or Dead Space

  • +1

Lots of suggestions for games that have movies. This list might be helpful.

  • Vietcong and Americas Army….. wait ! ….oops.. my bad ! 😬

  • +1

    Super Mario Kart (the original)

  • Any new adaptation will be super woke nowadays and probably not worth watching.

  • Onimusha

  • How about the Wolfenstein series? Could be an amazing popcorn movie.

  • -1

Final Fantasy has already had a movie in 2001, they lost so much money that they Squaresoft had to merge with Enix.

Then there is also the FFVII movie.

TLOU also has a tv show that is already in post production.

Broken Sword would be a good adaptation.

  • Any AAA game with good Cinematics and storytelling won't do well as an live action. Take uncharted for example those games are for the ages. You just can't make that into a movie that'll be better. Same goes for GOW. Well I guess they are making a LOU drama.

What about RE series that they're making.

  • Starcraft

  • A bioshock infinite tv series with a massive budget would be the greatest tv series of all time.

  • Its not in the list, but the Diablo series, especially D2R comes to mind!

  • Easily Nihon Falcom's series Legend of Heroes - the longest running series of JRPGs with a continuing story set in the same world.

The Liberl arc, the Crossbell arc, the Erebonia arc, the Calvard arc would make for a huge multiple season series.

  • New Final Fantasy
World of Warcraft part 2 (dont think we'll get it)
    Cyberpunk 2077 will be amazing
Souls Series (dark souls / demon souls etc…)
Super Mario (I actually did like the first movie)

  • Sopwith

  • FreeSpace 2 or maybe the FreeSpace series - but than it'd be better suited to a TV adaption!

  • Oblivion!

  • Leisure Suit Larry

  • Diablo.
