Wristwatches were originally a woman’s accessory, only due to the war were they adopted by men, as you don’t really have time to go into your pocket and look for your watch while in the trenches
While it’s true wristwatches we’re e worn almost exclusively by women, it was much more for decoration than any sort of accurate timekeeping—with aristocratic ladies having very little need to be precisely on time for anything.
The only reason wristwatches weren’t worn by men at the time was more to do with their vulnerability to dust, water, etc. Thus why watches were kept in pockets.
Thus when the first man in the army modified a fob watch to go on his wrist and used for it’s true purpose this led to watches made more durable and thus used to tell the time.
