Would have bought it if it had a different name 🤣

    • Yeah you and the Americans stopped drinking Mexican beer

  • +1

    Not recommended for use inside.

I thought that these were banned @ Mid-1993, or maybe it was another type of liquid fuel heater?

    • It might be good for camping in the winter.

      • I have seen some that use Camping canisters in the past, but not rec'd in tents due to Carbon Monoxide. This probably would not be rec'd either. :)

    • site sells electric heaters, surprise surprise the dont want you to buy a kero(or gas) heater.
all those safety precautions would also apply to any gas heater but most people feel safe with those indoors.

as ppl below have commented these are used in japan all the time. they have safety cut offs if tipped over or flame goes out same as gas heaters.
they probably were banned back when they were dangerous.
this is no longer the 70's, 80's or 90's

My Grandma had one of these in the 1970s.
    I remember the smell vividly.
    They are not good.

    • +1

My memory is that they pumped out quite a lot of heat. I liked them.

      • +4

Lots of heat and lots of fumes. Heavenly

        • Yes they make you warm and high…and possible dead if there is no fresh air coming in

  • ‘Virtually’s doing a lot of work there

  • Memories. What a classic. Going to have to go back to these soon with the price of everything else!

    • Not likely. People would be burning their rubbish in metal drums for heat.

Kero is from crude oil which was natural gas prices are sky high.

  • Kerosene can cause cancer?

    • +1

      If you drink it? Probably.

    • -1

fossil fuel products like petrol and diesel when burnt have fine particles that are highly likely to be carcinogenic (cancer causing) amongst other health effects.

      • +1

Overwhelming evidence shows that particle pollution in the outdoor air we breathe (caused by transport, power generation, industrial or agricultural emissions and residential heating and cooking) can cause lung cancer.

According to WHO, the air we breathe is laced with cancer-causing substances and is being officially classified as carcinogenic to humans.

So yeah, a kerosene heater in an enclosed space is going to exacerbate that.

  • Kero heaters huh. I haven't seen one since 1970.

    • +1

You mustn't have visited Japan in Winter!
There's often a pot of tea kept warm on the top.

  • Gas heaters a bad enough and now Kerosene?

  • Kerosene

Jet fuel. Made from same crude oil that is so expensive right now. This would be the inkjet printer of 2022. Cheap to buy but expensive to use.

  • +3

Back in my kero heater days it wasn't the kero heater I was worried about as a child. It was the gas hot water heater in the bathroom that you lit with a match and it always made a little boom. Or a big boom if you were slow with the match. Are they still around? Probably no more dangerous than a gas stove but it used to give me the heebie- jeebies.

    • We have 1 of those still in our holiday place, agree it was scary as a kid, then u had to regulate the heat using the stiff controls & hope u didnt go too low & have to re-light it..

  • Kero used to be half the price of petrol but now its double the cost.

  • Hey my parents used a kero heater in the 80s but kero is way too expensive to use in a heater…

"They do use an awsful lot of kerosine! I use it for about 5 hours/night and it probably uses 8L week, which is $36/week"

  • better off with diesel heater with exhaust going outside. about
4 litre per 24 hours consumption

  • I used to have this ten years ago when I lived in Japan. I bought kerosene and poured it into it. It took 5 minutes to ignite after turning on the switch. The smell of burning kerosene was very strong.

    • From memory they stink pretty badly of unignited Kero once you extinguish them too
