  • I have a similar offer but have to spend 60. Must be different per user

    • Same here

    • mine too.

  • I have spend $70, thanks for alerting me to the deal.

  • +1

Ive had 2 sets of spend $40+ get 10% back from CBA Rewards in the past few months. Bought 700 of Amazon GCs one time then 700 of ampol GCs the second time

    • Holy moly, that's a lot of gift cards.

      • +4

I know.. It seems like alot at the time but thanks to Oz bargain, Amazon gets spent in no time, and 700 gets you about, what, 1.5 tanks of petrol these days? lol

    • Can the offer be redeemed unlimited times?

  • Does this apply to Caltex as well? Are they the same thing?

    • +3

It depends on what you mean by Caltex.

There are three types of Caltex locations in Australia that you need to be aware of:

      1. Ampol locations that are not operated EG and are still using the Caltex trademark (and there’s only about ~90 left in Australia). These locations appear as Caltex on the Ampol store locator.

      2. EG locations, which licence either the Caltex or Ampol trademark through Ampol. If you see any Woolworths Caltex locations on the Ampol store locator, those are EG locations. Additionally, if you see any locations on the EG store locator, those are EG locations.

      3. Caltex locations either operated by Chevron (the owner of the Caltex trademark) or licencing the Caltex trademark from Chevron without any involvement of Ampol. These locations do not appear on the Ampol store locator, but instead on the Caltex (Chevron) store locator.

In summary, (1) is included in this offer, (2) is most likely excluded from this offer,1 (3) is excluded from this offer.

If you want more tips on identifying Ampol vs EG vs Chevron locations, have a look at this FAQ. The FAQ item above the one I linked to you goes into the history of Caltex, Ampol, EG and Chevron in Australia, which helps to explain the mess that is Caltex at the moment. Don’t worry, Ampol and EG will stop using the Caltex trademark by 31 Dec 2022, so this confusion won’t last for much longer…

      1. My guess is that EG is excluded from this particular offer, as EG usually exclude themselves from any Ampol cashback offers available offered through financial institutions (e.g. CommBank, Westpac, AMEX), but someone will need to look at the terms and conditions of the offer and confirm this. (As you can tell, I don’t have this offer.)

Thanks, very helpful. Still confused however because my local store appears in both Caltex and EG store locators.

It says 'We are currently branded Caltex but are transitioning to the Ampol brand. Your AmpolCard is accepted at all sites.'

Will probably just skip this one unless someone has tried it out

EG locations are supposed to appear on both the Ampol and EG store locators, because EG sells fuel supplied by Ampol, and also accepts AmpolCash (physical) gift cards and AmpolCards as payment methods. However, EG manages other aspects of the operation of their locations independently of Ampol, which is why I think they exclude themselves from this deal.

It sounds like your local servo is an EG, so I would personally avoid using that offer at that location (unless someone can provide a copy of the full terms and conditions of this offer…).

The 5 EG locations in mainland Australia that are not part of Woolworths Rewards and EG Ampol Oran Park are all now listed on the Ampol Store Locator as EG Fuelco Ampol Mittagong and EG Fuelco Ampol Oran Park to list 2 examples.

I'm assuming that is what Ampol will be listing the new EG locations going forward.

        • Good observation.

I only realised that Ampol had starting using a different name for EG locations on their store locator after I posted my comment above on Friday. Ampol has evidently only started doing this within the last week or so.

Btw, I can see 7 EG locations listed on the Ampol store locator as EG Fuelco Ampol:

          • Brendale - I don't think this location is even open yet, as it doesn't appear on the EG store locator nor Google.
          • Mittagong
          • Oran Park
          • Melton South
          • Sunbury
          • Bacchus Marsh
          • Banksia Grove

The Winter Valley location - a location that formerly had its fuel supplied by Chevron and looks like it still does not accept Everyday Rewards - is missing from the Ampol store locator, but it's been missing for weeks.

  • If someone has it… is it under the Rewards tab after logging in the commbank app?

    • Yes, for you - commbank rewards

      • what do you pay with to redeem the reward? bank card? credit card?

        • For me I only have the savings account with Mastercard Debit, so I use that. I think these rewards are supposed to be used with the Debit MCs instead of the Credit card MC (if you have both), since I think the CreditCards have a different system called Commbank Awards (not Rewards). Correct me if I’m wrong tho.

          • @noelhoi: lol I don't have any cards just a discontinued savings account

  • Will need to calculate my chopper cost vs my local ampol

    • chopper cost more after discount

btw you can just go in the shop to buy a gift card not fuel

      • Oh right! Great idea, is the selection similar to like woolies/coles? Any fees?

        • +3

It’s either worse or much worse than Coles/Woolworths, and you’ll need to see what your local Ampol locations actually stock.

The vast majority of Ampol locations in my area (and I’m not referring to EG Ampol / EG Caltex / Caltex Woolworths locations, btw) only sell AmpolCash physical gift cards1 and a limited selection of mobile SIM cards.

There is one Ampol location in my area that additionally sells the following gift cards:

          • JB Hi-Fi
          • Google Play
          • Amazon AU
          • BCF
          • Netflix

There were one or two other types of gift cards sold there (possibly PlayStation and Xbox?), but it’s been two months since I visited that location, so my memory is rather hazy.

Also, there are no purchase fees with any of these gift cards.

          1. You can actually redeem AmpolCash physical gift cards at EG Ampol / EG Caltex / Caltex Woolworths locations too, but considering you seem to be a helicopter pilot, that probably won’t make much of a difference to you.

  • They only send me offers to places I don't shop or have any interest in shopping at

  • I have spend $60 and get $10 cash back…. neat!

  • Awesome, I was thinking of filling up my tank and got this. For new users, you can signup to Ampol and pay with your MasterCard via app to save another 6 cents per liter.

WARNING… Ive been trying to cancel my CBA card for 4 months (Ultimate Awards). I cant get through via phone, and the in app messages go nowehere an end in complaint ref numbers. I also have the complaints resolution team members email address..and still cant get this done.
The final straw. I simply reported my card stolen in April..it is still active.

The WORST customer experience by any bank by a long way.

I have now reported them to AFCA.

  • I filled up at Ampol about a month ago, so clearly I don't get any love from them at all.

No worries, I'll fill up elsewhere ;).
