"Up to 12 hours delay start timer"

Is it common practise to let moist clothes ferment for up to 12 hours befor drying?

    • +4

Guess you can time it for when the sun is out and your not paying for the power

      • Still, that is terrible timing. I can understand timing the washer so that it finishes at sunrise, but timing the dryer… @BadBreath is right: no sense at all.

        • unless you live somewhere with single digit maximum temperatures

          • @[Deactivated]: Surely that makes sense of having a dryer, but how does that make sense of it having a 12h timer, @chickenface?

            • @wisdomtooth: yeah the clothes won’t smell sitting around wet

              • @[Deactivated]: They won't, if you leav'em wet in the dryer for 12h?? 🤔

                • @wisdomtooth: yeah that’s why fridges work?

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: That's rubbish. My clothes left wet in the washing machine just overnight smell shit. Then you have to wash the whole lot again which is a waste of time, water, power and detergent.

Delay timer on dryer is a stupid function.

                • @samehada: not everyone lives at your house i’ve done the same thing without issue

    • Username checks out.

The cost of electricity will kill the purchase price
Time to hang your clothes on the rack

    • +1

I usually hang mine out. If next day or two days doesn't 100% dry (like 80% or 90%) you just chuck it in the dryer for 20 minutes.

      • +1

People here forget some of us live in SE.Qld and NE.NSW 😂

        • +2

Or Melbourne. With 17-18C indoor temp (including element of heating) it takes 2 days to get dry. Hang stuff in the garage, take 2 days+

Chuck it in the dryer for 20 mins if I really need something.

Dryer doesn't make sense. Unless you have ample space and need to dry quickly each wash.

    • +1

This dryer "doesn't make sense", or dryers in general? That'll depend on each one's circumstances, no? (as you've pointed out a couple of them—anoother may include living in a very humid place)

    • +1

why do you need ample space to use a dryer? lol

    • +2

They make complete sense. We almost exclusively use the dryer, which is economical as we have solar to run it.

  • +2

I've had one for over a year and has been using it quite often this year due to extreme wet weather conditions. Cannot complain at this price and it doesn't cost much if using it during off-peak time or day time with solar power. You would use it if you have a young family. This is costing you roughly one third of the price on a big brand dryer!

  • Is it any good for enclosed area ?

    • not without venting

      • Damn…

        • Put a ceiling extraction fan in the space, and ensure an appropriate intake area. Same as euro laundry in apartments.

      • I got no space in laundry room sadly so putting this in my garage (which the original owners could have built a wider garage , its (profanity) tight with my cx5 ) would this be ok or am I expected a lot of steam? I’d be happy to open the garage door if I have too ? Lol

  • Anyway to check stock online? Apparently there is no direct number to call store

    • +1

Wait until day after and check stock on Aldi specials stock checker on their homepage

    • Aldi's face to face service is pretty fair; good luck with anything else.

  • I went there 7:45 am got one each store have 8 dryer.

With the price of electricity expected to rise I think I’ll still to a more efficient heat pump drier

    • +3

      i’ll still to that

    • -1

false efficiency? If heat pump dryer takes 5 times longer to dry than a standard dryer, where's the efficiency?

      • That being said, it'll take longer to dry your laundry – 241 minutes on average for a full load, compared with 167 minutes for vented dryers in our test

        https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/laundry-and-cleani…

      • If you’re an only every so often user of a dryer.

If you rent and it comes with a drier.p, fair enough.

But people who go out and buy a drier tend to buy them based on their own use age needs.

We have the aldi sterling vented 7kg. Works great. We use it for large heavy bedding and other dog covers/ mats as it also does a wonderful job of removing most dog hair during the drying cycle.

  • I got one of these last year. Returned it after a week. It was rubbish. Better to pay a bit extra and get a recognised brand name.

    • +2

What was rubbish about it? Did it not dry your stuff?

And “a bit extra” for a branded one is unlikely. For the exact size branded one, you’re looking at 3 times the price.

      • +1

I'd love to know also.. mine dries everything i put into it just fine. I'm sure the top end models are better but these are cheap.. much cheaper not just a bit cheaper so offset a good whack of energy price differences upfront.

Cheers OP, got the last one at Morwell a few hours ago.

  • Does the job, a bit louder than some pricier ones though.
The "15 preset programs" is a bit ridiculous, the manual doesn't explain what the difference between any of them actually is - the classic "hot/warm/cold" and a timer or "more/less dry" would be better. The air dry mode is completely useless too, it stops after like 20min.
Vents out the bottom-left of the back panel by default, but has a cover on the left side that can be swapped around. Comes with a collapsible plastic vent tube that extends up to 190cm.

  • Just bought the 10kg washing machine top loader, drain hose came flying off after 3rd wash. It's the most idiotic design, there's basically a weak clamp holding it in place, instead of being fixed/hard wired to the washing machine!

Caused some minor flooding, considering bringing it back, but was a pain to haul and already discarded the box.

  • I have one of the Esatto heat pump dryers.

This isnt the same, this product is a normal - non heatpump dryer.

Even without the specs, they are completely different dryers, no vent or water tank at the front, the drum looks different etc etc.

    • nobody was suggesting otherwise?

      • Look at the description - I was referring to that to help eliminate the confusion
