Price is good but the PSU is bad as bomb, no wonder why they give it for free.
I won't run my system on this level PSU if getting 3080.

    • +15

AFAIK Gigabyte recalled all P850GM PSUs last year, and fixed the issue with production going forward. Someone more in the loop would have to confirm this however.

      • Gigabyte cards are bad, and they a rep for not honouring warranties on their cards as well.
        Only trust GB motherboards.

    • +16

they fixed the PSU ages ago

      • +1

It was cheap news, most models are discounted / hard to shift now.

      • +1

Companies aren't you friends, they are business.
Reputation is everything, GB have a lot to answer for.

      • +1

the problem wasn't just the PSU, it was how they treated their customers, claiming explosion was a feature not a bug, like wtf?

    • +3

      My 850GM PSU is perfect.
Issues were resolved in the past.

      • +4

Got one for $99 a few months back, house isn't on fire which is a plus.

        • Sleep well… with the PC off at the wall socket.. :). risk never waking up with it plugged in

          • @vid_ghost: Why? They fixed the issue.

            • -1

@Jazza2400: I'm not being serious. "joke". also if its old stock that wasn't fixed being sold… who knows.. i dont like stress of the unknown and would feel guilty selling it to someone else.

  • I'm wondering if I should bite and get a 30xx. I am running a 1070 at the moment, would be nice to upgrade.

    • +7

If you're willing to spend $1200 on a GPU and you're not in dire need, you're so close to the next gen.

If you really want a 3080 and can't wait the full 4-5 months, pick up an ex-mining card once they start to flood the market soon enough

      • +7

I'm keen to see all these cheap GPU's people have been telling us are coming.
        Have you seen any?

        • "are coming", not "have arrived". Hard to see something before it's here.

Even harder to see though is why miners will hang onto an asset like a GPU (that's possibly already paid for itself) with the direction of energy prices and crypto prices currently. Maybe someone can show some figures on how those two things can come back quickly and miners will be turning a profit again soon, but I can't see it in the short term, and in the medium term the cards just continue their journey to obsolescence as all GPUs do, with an associated decrease in value

        • I have seen a few start popping up here and there, problem is most are delusional and want to get what they were priced at 6 months ago not now.

      • +4

Its always keep waiting for next gen.
If history tells us anything. It will be sold out quickly yet again.
Buy now and game now. Or hodl and most likely keep hodling since its all sold out or too expensive.
Which means you will wait again for 4000 series prices to drop with the oncoming 5000 series on the way.
Which results in you hodling onto ur 1070 for a while longer

        • +1

This argument is fine in a normal market, but if you've been paying any attention whatsoever, this last two years has been the strangest market I've seen in following PC hardware since the 90s. There's a large risk of spending a lot of money for lesser medium and long term results right now, compared to the usual.

No I'm not advocating that when 4000 series are hard to get, they wait 18-24 months for 5000 series. I'm saying hold off for a few more months until events that might upend the current situation play out.

People are asking for advice, and while I understand that saying "just buy now, there's always something better around the corner" is not unreasonable advice, you're ignoring a lot of factors at play that make that advice worse than it might otherwise be

          • @TimR31: Ozbargain advice resulted in me hodling for awhile. 7 months ago i got a 3070. . Iv gamed quite alot since then. Yes 1100 was inflated but using a card playing current gen AAA is worth it for me. I was unable to game on my pc prior.
Thats why im telling that other bloke.
If you need it now get it. Otherwise you will keep waiting bcoz ozbargain told you to. And with 4000 series be prepared to watch history repeat itself all over again. Resulting in him with a 1070 for awhile longer

    • +3

I made the jump from the 1070 to the 3080 (plus a whole new rig) and it was worth it big time. So many modern titles look and play better.

    • +5

This is same price as late 2020. I would definitely wait for next gen. 3080 prices due for a big fall soon

    • You should also be guided by the other components you need/want to upgrade e.g. monitor refresh rate, CPU/MOBO, PSU if you are coming from 1070.

    • You should, this comes with freebie PSU and Ram, you can resell both on ebay close to $300, which makes this GPU under $1k if your lucky.

  • These are gonna be very cheap soon. 3070s are going for 650 or less now on ebay

    • +2

I've been hearing you say this for 3 years now…

    • thats about 100 less than a new deal, not bad, but not the mega drop people keep saying mining crash will bring.

    • +1

If you go to sold listings…used, overworked mining cards are getting sold for these prices (100 off ozb rrp). 🤦 Classic case of getting your cake and eating it lol. Good if you are a miner. Can't believe people are snapping up someone's old mined up cards with no warranty for just a 100 saving of a new one.

      • +3

Obviously they are not Ozbargainers… Lol

    • There's no new 3070's on eBay for under $899/$854.05.

  • +1

Shame those PSUs dont come in white.

    • White would be much better than the original colour option Gigabyte offered ie. 'burnt orange'.

  • +3

    still waiting for 12gb deals

    • the upgrade that makes sense for those of us with a 3xxx series with 8GB GPUs. It is this vs AMD RX 6800/6900 XT series before a major system upgrade to the next gen in a couple of years.

  • +1

The PSU seems to go for about $100: https://www.umart.com.au/product/gigabyte-850w-80-gold-power…

The RAM goes for about $169: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/gigabyte-aorus-rgb-16gb-2x8…

The GPU goes for about $1269: https://www.umart.com.au/product/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3080-v…

So it seems the PSU and RAM are basically free extras. It seems like a good deal. You could maybe look at it as getting the GPU for $1000, if you need the other parts for a build.

    • any idea can get another 2x same ram stack it up to 32gb?

      • I presume so, that usually just depends on the motherboard having enough slots as far as I'm aware.

  • +2

This is a good deal if you are building a new system and can’t wait.

    • -1

You should buy this now, before its gone. 4080 may not near this price until 5080 comes out.

Its an endless cycle for HODL and end up waiting forever.

      • +1

I have 1500 in my budget for a 4080/7800XT. And I dont want a gigabyte PSU or DDR4 Ram which are useless for me. I just wish that 38" alienware monitor comes back on sale. I cant believe i missed it :(

        • 38" monitor for what usage?

          • @[Deactivated]: Coding and Gaming

            • -1

@John Doh: ALmost as big as a TV

              • @[Deactivated]: Ya, but I am not getting it until its on a good deal.

                • @John Doh: Would 2x 27" be better setup? I kinda like multimon…

                  • @[Deactivated]: Currently I am on 27(165Hz)+24(Dell 16:10). Next it would be 38+27. I am still wondering if I keep 38 as center monitor, the 27 has to be moved too far. But would love to have that 38 for gaming.

                    • @John Doh: PS5 on 65" 4K HDR TV probably better for gaming lol.

Since most games are now multi platform lol.

PC Master race is losing market share…

                      • +1

@[Deactivated]: I have a low latency epson gaming projector. Its not about size, its the aspect ratio. Also PC losing market share because of high GPU prices which will end soon. Also KB+mouse anyday over those controllers.

                        • +1

@John Doh: "Also KB+mouse anyday over those controllers."

                          Can't agree more with that…

  • +2

My experience with this PSU is that I had two arrive DOA in succession, finally asked for a refund and went with something better.

  • -3

lol its a gigabyte power supply, you couldn't give that way to me I wouldn't want to blow up my computer with it.

    • yeah nice

  • +1

    oos already!

    • It's a pretty good deal in the current market, not surprised

  • +2

same price from Scorptec and in stock https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/graphics-cards/nvidia/91… but extras Redeem a BONUS P850GM 850W PSU from Gigabyte if purchased before July 31st 2022 (T&C's Apply)

    • Gaming OC model is still in stock, and comes with the free RAM and PSU. You'd have to be pretty keen on the 'white' Vision model to pass that up

  • Nice deal but unfortunately I'm only interested in 3080s that look like ass.
