    M mount is dying…

700D is good enough if you don't do much video
or upgrade to EOS R mount

    • 700D isn't nearly as versatile or as good as this in my opinion… But don't take either of our words for it go and try each for yourselves

Keep a note that standard EF-mount lenses wont be compatible with this cam unless you buy a seperate adapter :)

The recently announced Canon EOS R7 & R10 with APS-C imaging sensor are probably a closer match to 700D.

I expect that EOS M50 will continue to fall in priced.

I changed from 700D and couldn’t be more happier.
    Loved the portability

  • Anyone please could advise if this is a good fit for product photography? I've an online store and need to take high-quality photos for my products (shoes). I've a descent setup (lights, backdrops, etc.) not the perfect though but should do the job. Looking for a good camera around this price (or even +$200 max). Thanks

Something like this should be perfect, especially as it already comes with a lens. The quality will be more than good enough.

      • Thanks mate. This or Panasonic Lumix FZ80 60x Zoom Digital Camera [4K Video] or Panasonic LUMIX G85 4k?

        • +1

Believe the M50 would be a better choice with its interchangeable lenses and cheaper price than the latter camera should you get deeper into photography, but the FZ80 will do just fine for product images,

  • Sold off my EF-M gear but honestly they've got some really nice lenses. 11-22 & 18-150 are all very decent zooms. Lightweight, sharp, well behaved barrel distortion only, with the only compromise being vignetting in the corners. 22 and 35 are very good too. The mount has a surprising amount of 3rd party lens support as well which is always welcome. Overall it's got a pretty good lens coverage even if the amount of lenses available is on the low end. Bonus points are the prices are very palatable in relation to other aps-c mirrorless offerings. I ended up selling my gear only because bodies were lagging behind a bit after initial great releases. Slightly tempted now by the new RF-S release. Looks like most EF-M lenses will be getting a direct port to the new mount! You'd have to pay a hefty premium though but with the new mirrorless system and those lenses…tempting.

  • Can anyone recommend best (not too expensive) lenses for product photoshoot (women sandals) that go with this camera?

The EF 50mm f/1.8 Prime lens will work great for product photography, seeing as it possesses great sharpness and can also do good close up shots. As the M50 is a crop sensor, the 50mm will be equivalent to 80mm after including the 1.6x crop factor. You will also need an EF to EF-M adaptor to run that lens. Lens costs about $177 from Amazon and $80 for an adaptor. However if you find that the included lens already does the job, there is no real need to switch.
