[VIC] Free Filters, Cases, Batteries, Cameras, Lenses, Projectors + More @ Michaels Cameras / Whitehart Bar (Melbourne)

1220

Excerpt from a public post made on Michael's cameras. It is a sad day for me as Michael's was on the top 10 things of my must visit places whenever I visited Melbourne.

Another nail in the coffin for dedicated camera shops - I will sorely miss it - just as I miss Photo Continental (QLD)(closed 2015).

On behalf of 5 generations of the Michael family who have traded from this corner since 1916, and all our team members, we sincerely thank all our customers for your loyal support over the years.

As a token of our appreciation for your support & business, on Saturday 25th June (tomorrow), commencing at 9am, we'll be giving away our remaining stock for FREE. As our building is currently under renovation for an exciting future, the giveaway will take place at Whitehart Bar. Whitehart Bar is located next door to us on Lonsdale Street. Access to Whitehart Bar is via their Lonsdale Street entrance (which is directly next door to michaels at 355 Lonsdale Street entrance).

What's up for grabs?

First come, first served. All we request is that you show respect for your fellow customers with the quantities that you take. Please note: there may be significant queues. We anticipate that all stock will be exhausted by 11.30am.

We'll have an variety of FREE new and used accessories and equipment including filters, cases, books, inkjet paper, batteries, adaptors, used cameras, lenses and projectors and more….

I was part of the 9:30am-ish group and the only real goods seemed to be bags and filters. Oh well, still grateful for the freebies, and got a faceful of the 9News camera as well goddamnit.

It went well, even the last people in the line got something.

You know that sounds like it was a really well-thought out event, I wouldn't have guessed that would happen tbh.

    • +1

I would say the last of the people got in around 12:30 or so, so no one missed out.
I think the was about 8 tubs left that they said will be auction off.

Anyone get anything sweet?, it was kinda like a luck of the draw which tubs/gear were put out.
I didn't know much about what was a good find.

      What did people get?

Peter (owner) was nice to talk to.

      THANK YOU OP/Ozbargain.

Awesome to hear everyone nabbed something! When I first saw the FB post I was sure it would be chaos.

I got a camera bag and a some Cokin filters that I’m pretty happy with. Looking forward to having a play around with them.

          Cool find.
What time did you get there?
Still interested in what other people got too.

As I said, I had no idea what was worth getting (camera body/lens) being the first few people in.
I also wasted 40 secs trying to get my shopping bag that was buried in my backpack, duh, some people would have grabbed a few sweet things during that time oh well.

I did pick 2 lens first, ended up given 1 to a person in that was next inline with us at 4:30, he said he could use it, he said it could be worth $50 maybe, kept the other.

Also got a bunch of lens filters & adapter rings, lens caps, cables that I will sell on eBay, as they are no good to me.
Best thing I got was a small Sony speaker & 35mm cam body.
Wish I got a lens that suited the camera I got, knowing my there was 1.

Thank to Michael's Cameras store and staff.

@OrbDaggerZ: I arrived about 8:15am, got through the door about 10:45am. Somehow managed to get filmed by ABC and Channel 9 despite trying to avoid it.

                @3atc3: Thanks for the link.

I think the reporters/camera crew got there way too late, or didn't think that there would be so many turn up, as I didn't see any reporters anywhere around 9am, at the front of the line, anyway.

Except 1 guy setting up a film crew spec video camera for a few minutes at the front of store.
                And 1 blogger.

I wonder if Peter uploaded any pics on Facebook.
