  • Been using one of these for a few years now. Takes amazing photos considering it's price point. Ergonomically, it's a bit poor though. Even with the official body extention addition, it's super fatiguing on the right hand when used with a large telephoto lens, as you have to "claw-grip" the small body.

  • Rp is just a low level Full Frame ( I used to owned it then sold it within 6 months).. any current generation APS-C or MFT will trump this camera..

Only benefits of this camera is just sensor-size other than that ..Similar price APS-C / MFT will be better.

    good price tho :)

Just simply not true. Features-wise, yes, I agree that this EOS RP will not be up there, but the biggest drawcard is that it gives you access to basically the best mirrorless lens library there is which is what matters at the end of the day. You won't be using a body you bought 5 years ago, but lenses can last over a decades, so buying into the right system really matters.

The only APS-C system that I would consider buying into is Fuji - none of the other manufacturers take APS-C seriously and will spend the necessary resources to bring out a complete lens library. M4/3 is not really a system that I would suggest anyone buy into at this stage. Olympus' future is uncertain and it's not clear for how much longer they will continue to support the system. Panasonic already has a foot out the door with their own full-frame system. I just don't see M4/3 as a viable system that will be around in 5 - 10 years.

      • I agree with you there on Fuji… but for MFT I dont

MFT has the largest collections of lenses compare any other camera systems it because it has around 20+ manufacturers that are committed in making MFT lenses, and these manufacturers are not just existed overnight.

Also at the moment there are 4 camera maker are making MFT body .. I think they will be still around more than 10 years…

to be honest.. at the end of the day… just buy what u want

  • Full frame for 1200, they have come down a lot

    • Full frame, mass produced cameras are of low quality, thus worth very little, and incomparable to the brand’s premium level brethren.

You say low quality - but as someone who uses many… many cameras, I can say that in my opinion, these are not 'low quality'. For many people these are fantastic cameras that have features well placed to take great photos. One of the biggest positives which actually is actually handy, is that they are lighter and smaller than many other full frames. There are always better models, but there is absolutely nothing I have bad to say about the RP considering the price.

I would not be sure about calling the camera "decent" - I would not recommend this for photographers at this price and life cycle. Sure it can take photos with Canon's colour profiles, but the auto focus performance, shooting speed, ergonomics (especially for those with large hands) and usability was below average when it was released.

There are some uses for this camera (still or slow subject photography, times when you want to travel light).

Battery life is subpar. Unless shooting casually, official Canon LP-E6N batteries are not cheap and though there are 3rd party alternatives photographers may find themselves swapping often.

Therefore for those on a budget it may be a good choice, just be aware the compromises may mean it will end up not being used often.
