Fair warning that Manila is not a great airport to transit through
transited there once myself at like 3am. The waiting area sucked, but there was some issue transferring my bag so I got escorted through security by an assistant, while flanked by two armed guards to identify my bag, and then escorted back to the waiting area. Broke up the monotony a bit :)

Indeed. Especially if you need to get to another terminal, literally had to get from one side of the airport to the other (of the runway) when the terminal transit buses were nowhere to be seen.
Transited through there twice and got into the Mabuhay Club - Philippine Airlines business class lounge, smelt mouldy and dank, felt like a run down hotel lobby but the people very friendly.
It is insanely difficult to transit between terminals, in particular if you need to get to or from Terminal 3. .
There is no rail infrastructure, and you really need to take bus or taxi through heavily conjested roads.
No, under the current policy, you can only take a direct flight to China from your residence country. Hope this policy be revised soon
