If only they ditched their VIDAA operating system and switched to GoogleTV like their American models, these would be so much more compelling.

Shockingly, Vidaa is a selling point for the right person.

The 5 second boot time, and hugely more simple menu system is a selling point for a lot of folk ive talked to.

There's a trend with people who are demanding "the best" streaming services; they likely already own an input device (googleTV, firestick, etc) which will outperform any budget embedded google tv. (Not the case with flagships, sure, but in this spectrum)

So being able to power up in literal seconds, game for a bit, watch some TV, then simply switch inputs to find their streaming device completely unaffected by the aforementioned, is a pro.

I used to sell TVs in a boutique store, and boot-up-time was a BIG factor for many people, usually overlooked in reviews.

Agreed, have use one form or another 'streaming' box for years and cannot see myself caring about what the TV OS is running as it's just a delay/stepping point to the interface on the standalone device that are can seamlessly move from TV to TV without having to worry/learn new functions. Having a consistent interface, using it on multiple TV within the house also makes for a better household experience too. All my current TV use Nvidia Shields, don't care what the TV is running.

Damn straight. I have some piece of shit TCL 55" running android TV and the instant power on doesn't work properly (even when it did, it still took a good 15-20seconds), it takes a good 30-40seconds for my tv to turn on… just so I can use my nvidia shield pro to watch stuff.

      • totally agreed, I got the Foxtel tv box which is awful in terms of booting time, even if it's just a simple waking up from sleep would take half minutes before I could use it without freezing.

      • +2

Good points, not something I prioritise so hadn't considered it.

        Thanks 👍

      • Unless it is like my Q7 where in order to disable the absolutely horriffic motion smoothing and not have it sneakily reactivate then you have to disable fast boot for some reason (this was the official Hisense "solution".

    • So far VIDAA has been great for me. Ever since I got it, I pretty much don't touch my Chromecast with Google TV any more.

    • Agreed love the android system on my Sony tv

Cheap TVs have cheap processors, its better to have a lightweight OS like VIDAA that boots and operates quickly than something like Google TV which can make the entire TV painfully slow (like some budget TCL TVs out there). If you want a good Google TV experience on a budget then get a $80 Chromecast with Google TV, I bet that will be far quicker than trying to run Google TV natively on this TV’s hardware.

4K AI Upscaler - Upgrade your content to near-4K Quality

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that 'Stralia's FTA TV broadcasts are going to look nothing near 4K quality when upscaled - but I admire their optimism.

That said is a lot of TV for the $$$ and 3yr warranty from a decent brand - so looks decent deal.

    • I agree but also wouldn't be surprised as AI upscaling is becoming very impressive. Topaz Labs still amazes me every time I use it

    • +2

Yeah, we went brand hopping to find a TV that upscaled FTA well, ended up on Sony.

Their TVs are so much lower specced on paper, but when playing back TV, their processing just cant be touched.

    • 'Stralia's FTA TV broadcasts are going to look nothing near 4K quality when upscaled

I hadn't even considered that use case.

The Netflix HD upscales nicely to 4K though, same with most streaming apps.

It's destiny you buy it - there is that old saying,"It's often easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission."

My Mrs was pretty happy when I promised her another 9 inches. Imagine the look on her face when the delivery driver rocked up with our 86" TV and took away the 77" haha

Does their OS have all the apps that other operating systems have like Netflix, YouTube and Australian catch up services?

    • +1

No. Has netflix, stan, prime video, youtube, ABC and SBS, but not 7, 9, 10. Very limited in apps. Eg has plex but not kodi. You can use 7,9,10 still, but not via an app - have to go through that TV channel and do it via there (red button from memory).

      • A naive question - do you need to create logins for ABC, SBS, and 7 (I read in some comments that it comes with 7 now). It will be tedious if so. Too many logins to be created!

  • Can't decide on A7HAU 75"[2022] $1095 or U7G 75" [2021] $1195 both from jbhifi. Any thoughts?

    • +4

U7G is a better model that has better contrast ratio, you will find better blacks with U7G. otherwise everything is the same. I would pay extra $100 for better contrast ratio as it's noticeable when viewing blacks.

      U7G 5,900 :1 vs A7HAU 1200:1

  • +4

I have this TV from the Good guys Telstra deal, it's an IPS panel so detailed contrast in not the best. Previous TV was also a Hisense 55n7 VA Panel with better contrast, definitely noticeable when viewing blacks. But for the price and size it's decent value, just don't be expecting OLED quality. Games, sports and TV is fine.

      specs if anyone is wondering
      4x HDMI ports
      Smooth motion rate 120
      Native contrast ratio 1200 : 1
      HDR system HDR10 / HDR10+ / Dolby Vision
      No HDMI 2.1
Smart TV operating system VIDAA U5

The back light and dynamic backlight control is trash i usually turn these off

For an extra $100, this would be a better deal

40 or so left in the warehouse stock in Sydney

    • They don't support delivery on this one for some reason, I was about to pull the trigger :(

The A7HAU 75" can be delivered, but not the U7G 75"?

EDIT - I'm in Melbourne, there's stock nearby but delivery is showing as "Unavailable" and there's no way I can click & collect a TV that size :(

    • 55" and 65" sold out. This was a good deal yesterday: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/709836

  • I had my wall mount installed in 2010 and I have no idea what their weight specification is, but are pretty small (i.e a 40" used to cover the wall mount entirely). I had a 33kg original 1080p/24 beast on it, so it should hold this 75" which weighs 28kg.

So when you look at mounts these days they say like 40-55, then 55-100". Since it's all VESA standard mounting, wouldn't it just be referring to the weight the bracket can handle? There's no other difference right? If I had a 46" 33kg beast on there for years, this 75" 28kg should be fine due to the VESA standard…?

    • +1

VESA standard has multiple sizes. Some smaller brackets won't have the larger hole spacing. You would need to check your current bracket spacing against the TV. The TV in this post is a 400x300 spacing which would probably be OK for your old 40" bracket but again you would have to measure to make sure.

  • Gonna assume there is no local dimming, which means that all the HDR certifications are BS!

Are these good for bright rooms? So confused by qled, led, oled etc..

    Don't mind if I do :)

Price seems to have been adjusted. Now showing $1196 for me (299 saving instead of 400).

    • JB seemed to have taken a leaf out of the Amazon book…

  • Is the U8G worth the extra $400 over the U7G?

    • If only watching content from an HD source; yes, the screen is a big leap ahead.

If not, the upscaling is far too aggressive.
