  • Anyone know if there's anything stopping an existing customer of the Westpac group from getting this deal? Currently have a St Georges Amplify card as well.

    • +3

Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Earth Classic, Earth Platinum, Earth Platinum Plus, Earth Black, Altitude Classic, Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer.

      • I did see that clause. My card isn't listed on there. I'm not a Westpac customer, but a St George's customer (owned by Westpac). Does that mean I should be right to apply?

        • yes

    • You are good to apply.

  • Is there any easy way to calculate qantas points to $ for their flights?

Is 50k points enough for a business class return flight say to Sydney, or is it like an economy ticket return.

    • From where? Economy is 8k MEL-SYD one way.

      • +2

Thanks, that's exactly what I was after. So 70k points is roughly 2x return business class flights BNE to SYD.

Gives me some idea of worth at least, I know converting to straight dollars has pretty weak value.

        • +3

plus nearly $200 tax. seems a waste to fly business for such a short flight

          • @[Deactivated]: I'm not saying I would, just gives me a rough ballpark for the value of the points.

More than likely would put it towards an overseas flight, but I'm skipping the deal. I haven't had a CC for years so I'd need a better offer to be tempted to carry one again.

            • @kimlo: you also need to book a flight that has points available, it's not like every business seat can be purchased using points, and it's hard at the moment to find them.

        • +1

If you want to fly business internationally, you get pretty good value by booking economy with money and then using points to upgrade

Don't forget to pair this with the 20K sign up bonus.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/709590

    • I checked that only applies who didn't have Q card in last 12 months

  • +6
    • +1

you can, but I think better of apply through the link to give them some commission if it doesn’t cost you a cent

    • Thanks, updated.

  • +2

No annual fee if you're already with Westpac

    • And getting an everyday deposit account is dead easy, nobody should pay an annual fee on this one

      • Where did you find this?
The "Westpac Choice" account has a $5 monthly fee if you don't deposit $2k a month into it

        • I put $2k deposit in and then withdraw the $2k the next day

        • Apply for the card then cancel the account once you receive it.

    • Thanks, updated!

  • Is it 70k points bonus on top of base points or total of 70k points?
Couldn’t find anything on the main website.
    Thanks

    • 70k is bonus points once you meet the spend criteria

You still earn base points per dollar spent according to their point ratio
      I think it’s 0.5pt per dollar

  • So $100 for a 70k card. Sheesh ANZ and others do it better.

  • +2

Was very slow for the points to come through for me with this one. They arrived eventually but I had to make a few phone calls.

    • I reached spend requirements 2 months ago and still no bonus points for me :/

    • Strange. I pretty much met the criteria within the first month and got my points the very same month

  • +2

Really should be a $99 annual fee
    But I'm just nitpicking

    • -3

Some people have free Qantas membership

      • +1

        ?
The $49 is what you have to pay to earn qantas points

        You can't dodge it unfortunately

        • -6

"Really should be a $99 annual fee"
$49 is to the bank where you earn the points and they pay Qantas to add them your your account, $50 is just a membership fee to Qantas. There are ways to get free Qantas memberships and you don't have to pay the $50.

@itsme56: "Ongoing annual rewards program fee | Altitude Qantas: $50"

I read this as you have to pay $50 on top of whatever other fees apply to you in order to earn QFF points instead of homebrand Altitude points

            • +2

@fullspend: This is correct. I’ve just closed the Altitude Black card and the $50 one time fee applies if you want to earn Qantas points.

          • +1

            @itsme56: Unfortunately thats not it

            • -2

@Drakesy: I get it for free. Downvote me all you like.

              • +1

@itsme56: It's not the membership that the $49 covers, thats a separate area.

It's what Qantas charges Westpac to earn Qantas points rather than amplify
And it's charged every year as part of the annual program fee.

                @Fullspend summed it up well.

                • -3

@Drakesy: If you are already a Qantas Frequent Flyer member of another reward program and link this card to the same Qantas FF account - the $50 fee isn't changed……

                  • +2

                    @itsme56:

                    $150 Ongoing annual card fee
$50 Annual Altitude Qantas program fee

  • Damn these spend amounts are increasing

  • Might be dumb but with the 12 month waiting period to be eligible for the bonus, is it just basically 365 days after closing your card?

    • +2

      exactly that

      • Thanks!

  • I got the 140K Altitude Rewards with $49 annual fee for year.

    • what do you do with the altitude points?
I think they convert to velocity/krisflyer 3:1 ratio which is pretty crappy.

      • Check out the Annual fee rebates

      • Get gift cards.

  • How do you get your customer id or get a virtual card before getting it in the mail. i'm going in circles as i don't have a card number or id

    • I remember I had to call customer service to get my customer id.

  • So the $50 annual Altitude Qantas Rewards fee applies even if you hold QFFP? So you cant get away with these fees regardless?

    • Yes and no.

  • Any guidance on how to as a new new customer avoid the annual fee?
ie. do i sign up for any basic account with them and can I do this online?
once setup then apply as existing customer?
    any tips/guidance apprecaited.

    • Yep, just sign up for any account. Once opened, apply for this.

I'd recommend waiting a few days - when I signed up for this a couple of days after opening the normal account, their fraud team flagged the accounts and I couldn't get it unflagged/activated over the phone. I had to get my ID verified in branch which took a little while as the branch hadn't seen it happen before

  • 1 year fee of $49 can be avoided by creating westpac account, is there any way to avoid $50 Qantas fees? Thanks

  • Has anyone waited more than 21 days to receive a response to their application (after uploading payslips etc)?

I have never had to wait this long for a credit card application to be finalised before. Does anyone know if Westpac is usually this slow?

    • I got a response within 2 days - I suggest calling the number in the email and they can approve on the phone if everything is there.

  • I logged into my Westpac account even though I don’t have any open cards and I can still see the offer, do you think it will work as an existing customer?

    • Yep previous comment shave said it’ll work as long as you have a log in.

      • Ah okay cheers.

  • Anyone else running into errors applying for this?
On the final page it says "The credit card application form is currently unavailable. We apologise for any inconvenience caused"

    • Update: wouldn’t allow me to apply via my customer login but could do it via their main website strangely enough
Means I won’t get the $49 fee waived but it went through overnight and had the digital card the next day via their app

  • how soon to Westpac give the points ? anyone got theirs yet?

I did the min spend within few weeks and paid the card off, so just waiting for points to arrive and was wondering how long it takes.

    cheers

FYI, had this card for two statement cycles, got my bonus points. Called them up to say I want to close and asked for the Qantas Rewards Fee refund of $50, got it instantly.

    • No way good to know they’ll refund the $50 and they didn’t ask for a reason why?

      • No questions asked. Maybe I got lucky, but worth a shot for everyone else. Good luck!
