Wirecutter's dry food storage container of choice:

Replaced my cheapies from Kmart which I quickly found out were not "airtight" at all and lids came off without needing to loosen the handles.

    Hi PieJustice,

FYI that these are actually available through the 'Sistema Brilliance' range (Rubbermaid owns Sistema)

Similar price to Costco, Woolworths or Coles when on sale

    • oh - did not know that! is there an equivalent set deal to this - i might jump to that instead? I can only see a 14-piece set at Costco which is more ideal for horizontal packing instead of vertical. The largest container at officeworks is the 1.3L container (and costs ~$12) vs the 19.9 cup (~4.7L) container in this deal

    • Are the Sistema ones the exact same as the Rubbermaid ones? Might just be bias but I've felt the Sistema ones in stores and they feel a bit different to me (I have the Rubbermaid ones).

      • I haven't seen any Sistema Brilliance vertical pantry containers in Australia, only the horizontal leftover containers, so I can't comment on them specifically.

The Sistema Ultra range is the closest I've found to Rubbermaid Brilliance in terms of available shapes and sizes.

Unfortunately, while the plastic is similar the seals are quite different.

The Sistema Ultra seals are quite thin and made of firm rubber, while the Rubbermaid ones are much thicker and softer. The Rubbermaid containers make a satisfying "whoosh" sound when you open and close them, so I think they're more airtight than the Sistema Ultra ones.

I have a mixture of both to suite different depth shelves, but I definitely prefer the Rubbermaid.

        • Yeah that's my thoughts as well. I like the feel of the Rubbermaid ones much more, feels a lot more sturdy.

    • yeah came here to say this.
They're often half price and Coles and Woolies.
      Good value!

  • Shame they're plastic

Bloody Americans. Who else measures container size in cups.

    • -1

its normal to measure size in cups.. A Cup, B Cup, C Cup… DD Cup..

  • I've also been eyeing these to replace my shitty as kmart crap. The lid breaks so easy - 1 of 3 survives a week of light use.
The oxo ones are a bit too pricey for me and doesn't look easy to clean.

    • I have heaps of OXO and they clean very easily. I only use them for dry food storage.

    • I have both the oxo and these. These are way better than the OXO. I’ve spent a small fortune filling the pantry with the Rubbermaid Brilliance especially the 7.8 cup ones.

  • I have a bunch of these in various sizes for most of my pantry staples (from Amazon) and they are really good!

  • Wish someone did a comparison on top containers, both like these and microwaveable.
    Including function and value.
Sooo much plastic that gets used and then thrown away because a new one comes along.

Evne though I now find Tupperware over priced at least they were reliable (or freely replaced)

https://youtu.be/WprgFWLgguM Americas Test Kitchen Tupperware testing. I’ve spent a small fortune on these after watching that video. These are by far the best containers you can get.
