  • Can't they don't call it 3G if only external support?

BTW is A9 dual core? Also no Google Play by default?

    • I guess they do make these kind of loose claims. Yes, via USB donngle only.
Single core processor at this price!
ICS should have Play by default pre-installed.

      • As my understanding the W17 is without Google Play by default and W17 is true dal core for a bit more.

  • BTW - this tablet is still $145 US at MeriMobiles so a great price. Beware - RAM is probably only 512MB not 1GB unless the manufacturer has beefed it up? says in specs - "max RAM supports 1Gb".

    • The comments now say 1GB of RAM. Probably means that the newest version has upgraded memory.

  • I would like to find out whether it has an IPS display and confirm the memory capacity(512 or 1gb) before I purchase.

    • Not IPS.
Storage? If so Internal #1 = 1Gb, Internal #2 = 8Gb… Plus the external Micro SD

  • Better to wait for the Google nexus tablet will be under 200$ and quad core

    • Do you have a link? When is it due to ship?

It will be made by ASUS. The price tag is around $200 USD, 7 inches and will be in July.

And if you're attending the Google I/O developers conference, you get one of these babies for free.

        http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/05/25/more-details-of-asus…

I'm willing to bet that the price wouldn't be anywhere close to $200. Take into account the "Down Under" tech tax and you might be looking at 50%+ price gouge.

        • Wow. Tegra 3 quad core tablet for $200 is amazing. Can do more "wait and see" or just buy now and be happy with it :)

It really is a toss-up between the Ramos and the HaiPad. What would you choose?(http://www.merimobiles.com/HAIPAD_i7_T_IPS_1024_600_Multitou…

        • Look at the modding community of each… The default Chinese OS on these are pretty bad, so you'll need a custom ROM on there ASAP!

        • Definitely. HaiPad has an IPS display and 1GB RAM confirmed so I am thinking it is better allround but the Ramos has nice build quality and mali 400 GPU so will keep researching.

I have this and love it… Happy to answer any questions.
(Short version is: Its great for the price. Flawless 4 to 5 hour 1080p H264 playback with screen at 80% and WiFi left on for some emails).

    • PS - Running fully rooted with HatMod
      http://www.librehat.co.cc/

Play works 99% (can't install facebook/twitter… these are the only ones I have had issues with).
Browser is now GPU powered. Insanely quick.
Handles 1080P media playback just fine. Even jumping to various times has no lag what-so-ever

    • Awesome. It's good to see a Chinese tablet with respectable battery life. Does yours have 1gb of RAM?

      • Looking in SETTINGS -> APPS -> RUNNING, it shows ~400MB, but guessing it doesn't show the OS usage)
So guessing 512MB… Is there a better way to tell?

Just ran a quadrant (unplugged if that makes a difference)
      http://imgur.com/EMwS5

The I/O lets it down, other than that, it places around the HTC Desire HD.
(The 3D tests were all running around 40-45fps if you want to compare with your own device)

      • Impressive results for a synthetic benchmark. Thanks for the info.

Is there a "Fast Ethernet" port on this unit, I don't see hole/port in the pictures. Spec sheet appears to contradict the video review posted - unless the tablet does not support 802.11 "n"/b/g

I personally think the other one with the IPS screen/GB of memory a more up-to-date unit, but I certainly hope the Chinese developer/firmware-cooking community will get behind it. A low hope anyway.

    • You can apparently plug in USB to Eth adaptors. No built in native eth.

If you can hang on, there are a range of great spec'ed components coming out shortly (which will be crammed into tablets by the Chinese).

  • anyone know what the "ir" port is for (i mean the name is obvious) but never seen anything android carrying an ir port before, is it a an ir as in old-school irda or something else?

    • I'm guessing it's for using your tablet as a universal TV remote.

    • +1

Or quite possibly the other way round — the tablet comes with a remote and the IR port is for receiving commands.

  • is this tablet good value for the money, never owning a tablet before? Would it be recommended for facebook and kids games, or is there something that is more recommended?

    • +1

If you watch the video review you can see what this tablet is capable of. Basic games and Facebook are guarenteed, but the main downsides normally associated with cheap tablets are usually:

      Low battery capacity, (sometimes)
Poor viewing angles (most of the time)
      Sub-par build quality (Sometimes)
Non-existent customer support (most of the time)

Generally if you want a disposable tablet and don't really expect it to last 1+ year, go ahead and buy, but if you want something that's reliable and polished, I'd be looking at a branded tablet.
