  • interesting, I have been looking for a bigger monitor, is it worth it upgrading from a LG Ultragear 27GL850 ?

    • -1

      No……

  • +6

For 34 inch you have to have it curved…. Otherwise the corners are just weird….

    • I've got a 31" Samsung curved, and I couldn't imagine a 34" flat to use! I completely agree.
At the close viewing distances of a pc monitor, at these sizes curved is mandatory IMO. Flat is just too fatiguing… and plus then you've actually got to consider the viewing angles at the very edges to seated position. I reckon it would take VA out of the picture entirely if flat, and that's a bad choice if VA actually suits your viewing circumstances better than IPS.

    • +3

Completely false. I have both flat and curved ultra wides. Theyre both excellent

    • +1

I was annoyed at the quality of Kogan curved 34" which is using the same budget Samsung VA panel as Nixeus and Xiaomi. I was using the Kogan for more than a year then switched to Gigabye M34WQ which is a flat panel and I've been happy ever since. Maybe the viewing angles of the IPS helps quite a bit but I can understand that if you sit closer to a 34 you will definitely need a curved.

    • +1

      Hard disagree

    • -1

Exactly. For IPS screens like this a flat panel will give you off axis backlight bleed if it isn't curved

  • +1

Hmmm for a 34 Ultrawide, I prefer the curve to be honest. Flat would be a little difficult when viewing the corners

  • +7

I have an Acer version (XV340CKP) which has very similar specs - also 34" and 3440x1440 flat panel IPS. No problems at all with the corners. I actually prefer a flat screen anyway.

    • HP is super shady by co-opting Acers model "X34" and its not only confusing, it's borderline infringing. A blind monkey can see through that thin veil.

    • I think IPS is the key detail. It has better viewing angles than VA making a flat panel totally fine. VA+Flat could look awkward at the edges.

  • +1

I have this monitor and it's amazing, no issues with it being flat. Much nicer than a comparatively priced curved VA monitor.

  • 165hz on DP. Not bad

  • 🤔 This or the Dell S3423DWC. Thoughts, OzB braintrust?

    • +4

I'm using Dell S3423DWC for over a week now after 50% off last month and it is great for WFH/productivity. USB-C/KVM switch enables easy to switch over to a personal laptop and work with a single keyboard/mouse attached to the monitor. Also used PBP/PIP feature with both work/personal laptops connected and it is awesome to use keyboard/Mouse across.

    • +4

What are you using it for? Colour reproduction for exact content creation, the absolute fastest response time, and put in a bright rooms, IPS is the way to go (generally), so don't buy the Dell.

But I actually prefer the Dell model you've quoted if given the choice between the two.
If you can get the it for this price, I'd pick it in a heartbeat… but that's because at 34" I much prefer a curved screen, and because I don't give a crap about viewing angles (especially with a curved screen, it's just me in the middle!) VA imo trumps IPS for contrast and black performance, especially in a darker room (most home set ups).

I'm sure I'm going to be negged to hell from IPS fanbois, but seriously there is absolutely nothing wrong with a good VA panel and used in the right conditions.
And that Dell you are thinking of has a 4ms response time (plenty fast enough) for all but the most anal-retentive of gamers. The USB-C upstream is handy too!

Limiting factor is the 100Hz (OP's is substantially faster at 165Hz at same res), so that's a neg… but again it really depends on what you want it for.

But can you get it for this price is the question?

      • +1

Confession bear time- I had already bought the Dell before I asked. Haven't received it yet so wanted to ask if people think HP posted here is better, and if so I'd return the Dell and get this. But don't think I should judging by the two responses. Thanks guys!
Btw, I bought the Dell at EOFY sale for $560ish. So not too much of a difference price wise

        • +1

Excellent mate. And for under $600 I think you've done very well. It's always hard with big purchases and buyers remorse… but have no fear, I reckon you'll be very happy with the monitor :).

  • +4

Can I neg all phones. They refused a warranty claim for product a bought from them, even though have a return authorisation from the manufacturer?

    • +2

Yes! Otherwise how would others know?

    • -2

Honestly I don't know why people expect or even bother getting retailers to fulfill manufacturer warranties anyway, it's usually far easier & faster to deal with the manufacturer yourself. Unless its DoA, thats a bit different.

      • Under Australian Consumer Law they obligated to do so.

If you have car that has an issue, do go straight to the manufacturer or do you go to the dealer who sold you the car?

        Stupid.

        • +1

I didn't say they're not required to, I said it's usually far easier and faster just to do it yourself. Just one mans opinion don't get your knickers in a twist.

          • +1

@sk3iron: ACCC need to go after the retailers for trying to bum-steer customers on this stuff.

            • +1

@WhyAmICommenting: I'll give you a taste of how it was when I used work in retail (many moons ago now), we were so underpaid and overworked that our warranty bay was so grossly mismanaged and bulging at the seams because nobody ever had any time to deal with it. We often just used to do replacement warranties on basically anything under $200-300 rather than honour the manufacturers repair warranty because it was less hassle. In the 4 years I worked there, I saw that warranty bay double in size every year, but never did I see it get any smaller, there were dust covered boxes of god knows what at the back because it fell into the too hard basket. Eventually the company hired a lady 3 days a week just to sort out the warranty mess and I can only hope it got better but more than likely it all became landfill. These are the retail workers you expect to properly manage your warranty claim in a timely fashion… Now you know why I just do it myself these days.

              • +1

@sk3iron: I do somewhat understand - this is one of the things that killed Dick Smith. But rules are rules.

Retailers need to budget for this as per ACCC or the law should change so it’s always manufacturers problem, which will encourage them to make better quality or do better checks before rolling out stock.

  • I'd like a good curved equivalent.

  • +1

I'm looking to purchase a 27" QHD monitor for gaming any recommendations? I had the Gigabyte M27Q in mind.

    • you missed the $299 Samsung G52A wagon,

      • ☹️ I know I wish I had bought.

  • Hemlo this good for Ps5 gaming?

    • +1

Hemlo is located 350 kilometres east of Thunder Bay in Ontario, Canada.

      • Do they ship to Australia?

        • Yes, you can get shipping from Hemlo.

    • PS5 doesnt support ultrawide or 1440p.
So you will be playing at 1080p in a window with black bars on the size

      • Oh no way good to know. Thank you good sir

  • +1

Good price OP. Seems to be some mixed opinions on curved vs flat so I'll probably hold until a curved is available at this price.

It's good to see the monitor stand doesn't have 500mm long legs like MSI and others.

    • Find one in store the same size in flat or curved?

  • Anyone know how low this monitor can go? So far I can only find some Dell monitors can go as low as i need them to so they can fit.

So far i think only this Dell in the above 27" range can fit in my desk. I need the height to be below 40cm with a stand ideally. Looks Like the HP is 41cm at the lowest stand height if i am looking at the right specs

  • HP X34 IPS ? or the DELL S3422DWG VA ?

  • Is there a good 34 UW about this price with USB-C PD / USB hub?

I want to essentially plug my KB, Mouse, HDD into the monitor, then use a single cable to my MBP for everything including charge.

Curved/flat doesn’t matter to me. Using it purely for office work (spreadsheets and document writing).

    • the only ones i've seen in that size with good support for what you want are like $800+… not that i've looked that hard, but the usb-c pd seems to add a bit of a premium

    • Wait for 20% off at Dell eBay store for the price ~$560.

      Dell S3423DWC.

this monitor can delivered 65W USB PD, and has KVM functionality.

      • sweet. awesome recommendation. will be on the look out.

        thanks.
