  • Looksl like a good tv.. Mini led

  • +2

it's a great TV however the 85" I believe is a much better buy. 75" is IPS vs 85" VA panel (aligned to QN90) but either way, great TV (and importantly price!).

I recommend seeing this in store first.

The panel and backlight setup makes some significant shimmering to some viewers. Its not unheard of with Quantum dots; but samsung does something unique again (perhaps the mini led's shine through the array differently?).

No numbers on the remote is a pain for TV watching.

And the stand is flimsy as hell.

Clearly; most of these are personal though.

If you dont see quantum dot shimmers, if you dont watch TV, and if you wall mount; then none of the concerns affect you and you'll probably have good experiences with this display.

    • do you minding expanding more about quantum dot shimmers?
I’m planning to buy a mini-led tv and haven’t decided if i go with Sony X95k or Samsung.

Can’t see much difference between QN85b and QN90b.

      • As in; you can't see them?

As someone who can; it looks like someone spilled micro-glitter on the screen. Its somewhat comparable to DLP projector Rainbows in white scenes.

        • To be honest, the demo video looks amazing to me. I didn’t notice the issue you mentioned. Maybe I’m not close enough?

Will pay a visit today to have a look.

          Thanks a lot

          • @Capt0083: Some dont see them.

I have a MIGHTY astigmatism; so the 'curve' in my glasses helps reveal them.

Its just something to be aware of; not something to pass on it, if it doesnt bother you.

Just be sure its a family trip, if you're not the only viewer.

  • Sony X90J 75" $2,396 JB

  • The speakers in that tv probably just as good as that sh*t box sound bar - you'll need a Q90T soundbar at minimum to beat that tvs internal sound IMO and optimally a 3k> HT system.

Or if you're just going stereo; a nice set of powered bookshelf speakers from edifier or someone on Amazon; at about $100.

LOL @ using cheap bookshelves with this TV - you at least want a 3.1 HR system with GOOD speakers - though a good 2.1 system could pass.

Not saying that edifier is bad, but you'd need at least the S350DBs or preferably S360DBs… I've got the S350DB my self and its not bad at all since it has a sub and all, but the S360 is much better investment, with its larger drivers, better tweeters and wireless sub.

Though you'd be better off going for a seperate subwoofer + tower speakers as fronts (or GOOD bookshelves) and a good center, then adding the rears, surrounds, etc.

You could even get some of those Edifiers that are like 170-200 on sale and add a sub to it, since a sub is a must IMO.

I managed to find a decent looking mini subwoofer (Minx X300) on gumtree for like $100 bucks, where the 'new model' from cambridge audio costs over a grand… even though i wouldn't pay that much for a CA product and instead would go for a SVS micro or REL mini sub… it pales in comparison to my SVS SB1000, but it has some serious oomph to it, especially considering it's small size.

  • It's crap tv. QN90B is better though it has few issues.

    • Waiting to see someone post IPS crap, rubbish, etc. 🙄

  • Samsung redemptions are so slow , bought a SSD and it took 59 days for my cashback and my pre order bonus gifts for my galaxy phone took 6 weeks after my claim to recieve them.
compared to my Makita redemptions they were shipped the next day

  • Or buy 75" QN90B $3356 with soundbar from JB to get $500 cash back, HN doesn't list this model online.

Yeah and then sell the sound bar and buy a proper home theatre experience.

  • Some online store ( abn says located in Kograh / Sydney ) sells sound bar in $190

not sure why someone would purchase in $345 at HN

    • not sure why someone would purchase in $345 at HN

      Because no cashback

    • Best they would do is $320 plus the $20 gift card, when I asked to match appliancecentral. Worth it for $900 back.

    Hardly Norman……NO!

          • @zasheikh: In that case only if TGG allow you to buy the soundbar and change the invoice for you.

  • Looking at a 85" QN85B. What's the cheapest soundbar to get the cash back? B450?

VA panel, right, so all good?

      READ IN THIS THREAD

  • TGG and Bing Lee also dropped the price.

Got the 85QN90 from HN with the B450

    $5095 delivered -$900 cashback & $370 gift card.

Could try to unload the soundbar for some more back but will probably just put it with a bedroom tv.

    Got the above for $650

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-85-inch-qn85b-neo-ql…

    Got the above for $3995

    Delivery he charged $85

So $800 off cashback and got $285 in gift cards.

    Summary: 3995 + 650 + 85 - 800 - 285 = $3645

Not bad price for the setup I believe.

PS: noticed later Binglee had the same setup with but totalling $395 in gift cards compared to $285.

So have a look at that too.

  • I am very happy with 85 Inch QN85B. I am not a gamer and so can't comment on that perspective but for movies and general it's a great tv with good black levels. Had few issues like TV turning off automatically in the initial days but with software updates it's improved. This is a Steller price with cashback and gift card. I paid 1000$ more than this last month and thought it was a deal but happy with the tv. Read somewhere that Samsung has not sold expected units of TV due to inflation etc and so this I think is a rare drop.

85" is VA panel should be better than 75"
