Ecovacs Deebot N8 : $ 399 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/711384
Ecovacs Deebot N8+ : $ 699
Ecovacs Deebot T8+ : $ 899

The + sign in the model (for ex. N8+, T8+) indicates that it comes with the Auto empty station by default. The auto empty station retails at $399.

IMHO Ecovacs N8 at $399 and N8+ at $699 is a pretty solid deal. I am not sure about T8+ as it costs around $200 more and the only major difference I see is the 5200 mAH battery (180 minutes) against N8's/N8 pro's 3200 mHA battery (110 minutes). Also the N8 has 2600 pa suction against T8's 1500 pa.

N8+ is very tempting. Never have owned a Robovac before - is it worth it? Two dogs and a cat, quite a bit of loose hair to pickup.

    • Got T5 ,it's been 3 years still going strong. The dust collector is pretty small, so I think the empty station is the key.

    • +2

I bought the N8+ a few months ago, have 2 dogs inside most of the time, the vacuum is great! only problem is if the vacuums bin is completely full, some times the base station isn't able to get every thing out of the robot, and needs to be manually emptied, happens maybe once or twice a fortnight with the vacuum running daily for me.

We don't use the mop function as we have old vinyl tile flooring, and it doesn't seem to clean them very well.

      • Agreed. Read the same experience on many other forums. In vacuum war's youtube review, it was mentioned that they've admitted that the auto empty station may fail if the bin is too full with pet hair. In that case, they recommend vacuuming frequently. But I think the problem is a dual-hole suction system instead of a traditional single-hole auto empty station. Because I haven't heard similar problems with the other systems such as Roborock.

    • I've had a xiaomi for 3 years still going strong, run it every couple of days

Keen to hear feedback. Looking for a house warming gift.

[Edit] Is the vacuum bag a nuisance/expensive running cost? I've read that Roborock doesn't need a bag.

    • +1

      3 for $29

      • +1

I got 12 for $25 non genuine and they are just as good as the ones that come with it.

        • Can you provide a link please? Also, how long till it gets full?

    • +1

Yeah, we have a Roborock s7 with the auto empty and it's bag free. The bag requirement always turns me off ecovacs and deebot competitors.

Just be warned the auto empty dock at the Aussie Roborock official store is outrageously overpriced at $699 compared to most other retailers. Much better off with Amazon ($559), Ali or ebay (have been as low as $500).

Their sales for the dock only including the current winter one - are laughable, only offering free shipping (when I messaged and asked how much that saved on an s7 auto empty dock, after a lengthy delay while their agency chased them down got back to me to say about $10.)

      • The bags are only $2 a month, maybe less if you buy from Ali/Bangood. You could also empty them and reuse them if you wanted to. So imho it's not really worth paying a massive premium for a bag less unit.

  • +1

T8+ + pro mop is the best mid range combo IMO

  • +2

Their official site doing the same deal plus 50$ sign up bonus… https://www.ecovacs.com/au/promotion/members-day-sale

    • No T8+

  • Just beware the auto empty bin isn't that great. I find things often get stuck and block the emptying.

    • +1

You can block one side on the dustbin so it sucks full force out of only
one hole instead of the same force being split between the two. People find this way it's a lot better for hair/fur.

      • Oh good tip will give it a try thanks

  • The only difference isnt the battery, the N8 doesn't have the lasers for obstacle avoidance, only the pro does which this isnt.

I went from a Xiaomi Mi Robot to a Ecovacs T9.

The ecovacs is not worth the money. It constantly doesn’t locate and modifies the map of the house, it then can’t find its way back to the dock. The app has function to set the vacuum to max power when it detects carpet, but when turned on it sets the vacuum to standard power when it detects carpet. Every couple of weeks I have to delete the map and re set everything up again.

    • That sounds like a faulty unit, I had the same issues with my Xiaomi Viomi V2 Pro. After 11 months of use and frustration I returned it for a refund, the seller told me later on it was definitely a faulty unit

      • +1

Nah it isn't. Its super common with every Ecovacs units. You delete the map and it works fine again for two weeks. Its the software thats shit, not the vacuum itself.

    • Yeah having similar issues here with the N8+ (with the emptying station) from the deal here back in September. Goes OK for a while then for no good reason will stop 'seeing' the base station. It will run over it continuously but not attempt to dock even though it is located correctly on the map. The other PITA is that it rarely empties the dust bin properly so I have to do it manually. Even after changing filters and cleaning bags etc.

After it's last effort I ended up doing a factory reset and though it mapped the whole house properly is now says 'cleaning complete' even though it misses a room or two.

      • +1

You can block one side on the dustbin so it sucks full force out of only one hole instead of the same force being split between the two. People find this way it's a lot better especially for hair/fur.

With the base, just be sure it's against a wall with at least a meter of vacant wall either side. Obstacles near the base can cause issues.

        • Cheers, I thought it sucked the dust from the big middle hole and the 2 side ones were just to let the air flow through? The base is pretty clear and does not get cluttered between when the bot works and when it goes pear-shaped. :)

          • @EightImmortals: Edit, just checked and it seem it is the side vents that are supposed to release the dust.

          • @EightImmortals: Yes it's the 2 square gray flaps on either side that the auto empty sucks through. This halves the suction between both holes. But if anyone has long hair/fur it can get stuck trying to get out both holes at once.

So you can tape up one hole, it will be a lot better.

            • @LowRange: Cheers I'll give it a go. Stupid thing started running all over the base station again today, I still can't figure that one out.

      • +1

As LowRange mentioned you can block one hole and it makes a huge difference. There is actually a 3D printer design online for a plug that fits perfectly. I got my teenage son to print it and it now empties perfectly and we have a high amount of dog hair. For us the T8+ has been great for 6 months. Including the mopping and rug function. But I read there can mapping problems - there is a US facebook page that has great tips and advice for most Ecovac models.

  • I bought the Uoni and it’s been so reliable. Self empties every time and never forgets the maps.

    • Which one? V980 plus?

    • Like the Viomi s9 is will be great until it breaks in <12 months.

  • The ECOVACS Deebot X1 Turbo is also on special at $1,849. Does anyone have this model and care to share your experience? Wondering if it's worth the price difference compared to the T8+

    • +1

On paper it sound much better, 3D obstacle radar, better suction. Just not sure its worth that much more.

    • +1

It has better sensors, more suction, better AI software but cost is 3 times of T8. Not really comparable with T8.

Also, with such a high price, X1 turbo doesnt have an auto empty station which is a shame. X1 omni and X1 plus have an auto empty station.

  • I have cat allergies and a cat, having this do a run daily, its great less vacuuming for me. The mapping feature is annoying sometimes as it seems to get misaligned to reality and needs to be reset from time to time.

The bags are not so expensive as you can buy aftermarket bags off Ali express. I don’t replace them often or if you really want you can manually empty them and reuse.

Well worth it in my opinion.

  • Anyone know the difference between the N8 and T8? It doesn't seem clear to me. The main use for me would be on floorboards so the mopping feature is attractive to me but I can't work out the difference between the two models.

    • As per my research,

      N8 vs T8
      * 2300 pa vs 1500 pa suction
      * No vs smart obstacle avoidance
      * 3200 mAh vs 5200 mAh battery
      * 110 minutes vs 180 minutes runtime
      * No support vs support for Pro mopping attachment

      • Thanks! Honestly have to wonder why they would add all the premium features but then reduce the suction by so much.

        • Vacuum wars tested both having same suction.

  • Should I get the T8+ @ $899 or wait for the T9 to come back down to under $1k?

  • Currently using the Eufy 30C with 1500 pa suction and been happy with it on our tiled floors, although there is no mapping, so its a random bump and turn. It does fine on the rug too. We haven't used it upstairs on the carpet as we usually grab our Dyson V8+ stick.

The Deebot mapping would be a big upgrade, and the mopping is a huge bonus.

I'm genuine torn between the T8 with its vibrating mopping, versus the N8 with bum drag mopping. or the N8 Pro with added lasers.

    Thoughts?

    • I was also tossing up between the three.
Note the N8 Pro is hard to find in Aus, something about not being certified. You can't buy from Amazon or directly.
After lots of umming and aahing I got the T8+ because I have mainly hard floors and I want the pro mopping attachment if the standard mopping doesn't satisfy me. If mopping is not a concern I agree the N8+ is a better deal. If you purchase it directly you get additional 5% off and 3 free dust bags and some points to convert to vouchers apparently. (Ecovacs website only sell T8 AIVI, and I think a premium for camera with no auto empty dock is not worth it.)

  • I find the suction of my T8 AIVI plenty. But what it's really good at is avoiding cables and obstacles - do recommend it for that.

  • +1

I just got another $50 from the ecovacs website by redeeming the 5000 points you get (so paid $650 instead for the ecovacs N8+).

My viomi S9 died on me within a few months of buying it (used twice a week) and I got a full refund due to a faulty unit.

    • +1

Thanks mate, I also bought from ecovacs and also got free additional bags

  • FWIW I just sent mine back for a refund. I spent more time dealing with it's issues that I would have spent vacuuming the house by hand. The hardware seemed fine and I had no issues with it's cleaning capability but the software is useless. Since my posts above (last week) it has reset the map 4 times, still wont find the dock (runs over it like it isn't even there). This morning it was sitting in the hallway out of charge because it couldn't find the dock even though the dock was located correctly on the map.

Way too much hassle. So now I need to go research is any brands have got this concept sorted.

    • Are you sure, if you've left enough space around the unit?

I had the exact same issue and honesty, mistake was on my part that I didn't leave enough space around the charging dock. I believe it needs 0.5 meters on both the sides and 1.5 meters at front. Also place dock on hard surface like tile rather than carpet.

    • Also, it is quite important that it creates one auto clean from start to finish without being manually picked up. If it fails, you do see a map but you cannot really use it for area cleaning or name the rooms.

It failed for me couple times as my house is really big and it ran out of battery and then couldn't find the dock
So I moved dock to bigger space and allowed to it complete a full run I'm smaller space and it worked perfectly fine.

      • Cheers, yep it had plenty of space around the dock, the same amount of space it always had and it was working fine for the first 8-9 months. Our house is not that big that it should run out of batteries looking for the dock, especially as it should know where the dock is as it's located correctly on the map. And as I said, it was working fine for the first few months until something went wrong. I'm not the only one having the problems either.

So now I need to find a replacement in time for the next sales. :)

Oh my bad..I thought it's a new piece.. hope mine works fine..
