Easiyo Yogurt Maker 1L $12.50 (½ Price) @ Woolworths

220

Nearly missed this as it wasn't in the catalogue. Missed it about a year ago when it was half price at Big W and it seems like an cheap way to make yogurt. Heaps of stock at the Woolies I was at and there are videos on YouTube on how to use without their pre-made sachets. Keep in mind if you want to go with the sachets this kit does not come with any sachets.

Used this for years. Would recommend except the price of the satchels seems to have really shot up. I was paying $3 each before, now their pushing almost $5 each, which is more expensive than the ready-made home-brand yogurt!

Eactly, I could get 2 kilos of yogurt for around 7bucks. Who would go through this hastle of making?

The reason is that it is healthier consuming yogurt that has just been made as the beneficial bacteria has a very limited lifespan, and substantially reduces exponentially as time passes. So there is a huge difference in health between ready made shop yogurt vs home made if health is what you are considering.

Can use about a quarter of the pack and then add powdered milk

Now see that's where it's best to think outside the box.
Firstly I don't eat any yoghurt except for Greek yoghurt (healthier, and frankly tastes so much more creamier).
There are so many hacks on how to simply use a combo of the yoghurt sachets and skim milk powder as an alternative and thus you can also adjust the mixture to suite.

I've been doing this for a while now (especially as we have a toddler who also benefits frok Greek yoghurt).

Roughly we add 3 tbsp of yoghurt mixture to 1.5 cups of generic brand milk powder.
Besides ensuring you start it 10 hours before you need it, we find it super convenient and when we add anything to it to flavour it (like fruit) we know we're not getting any added sugar and no hidden nasties.

Also, as you point out the current price is $5, as you only need a fraction of a yoghurt sachet per batch, it's easy then to wait and buy another sachet when it comes on special.

Or.. You can even just make your own yoghurt recipe without the sachets (haven't tried it, as haven't found the need to do so) so, to neg this deal realign isn't fair tbh.

      • Most Greek style yoghurt has cream added to make it creamier and less sour than plain yoghurt. Compare Farmers Union Pot set Vs Greek Style

Which is why I use full cream milk powder.
Trust me. It turns out super creamy.

You don't have to use the satchels. I use full cream powdered milk and a couple of table spoons of store bought yogurt. You can then make the next batch using some of the yogurt you just made.

There are a lot of guides online.

  • Is it easier to wash,?

  • Can you make high protein yoghurt with it?

Easiest way is to use 1/4 sachet (40g) of the greek yoghurt unflavoured and add 1L of UHT milk (full cream or skim) depending on preference. 60g sugar if you want it sweetened. About 12 hours in the Easiyo for a batch. Shorter if you want it less tangy.

Next batch you can use 2 tablespoons of the freshly made yoghurt with another 1L of UHT milk but add in about 20g of milk powder to boost up the protein content. Be careful about sterility and better to make it from your yoghurt as soon as you've made it rather than sitting around after you've opened it.

Additional protein is what makes the yoghurt thicker. Too little and you end up with a lot of liquid. If you want to make high protein, just add extra milk powder. I tended to use skim milk powder, otherwise the extra full cream really increases fat and cholesterol.

I could easily make 8L of yoghurt from 1 sachet.

Love the idea of making from scratch but tbh I just use the sachets like in your second link here.

    http://mummahack.com/2019/01/27/hack-your-easiyo-yoghurt-mak…

I do find it fascinating the differing ratios of sachet to milk.
    Myself I do:
    3 tbsp yoghurt sachet
    1.5 cups milk powder

The result is a thick and creamy Greek yoghurt.

    Yum…

To add to this, as we also use it for a healthy snack for our toddler, we originally bought 6 children's store bought squeezy tube yoghurts, and a 50ml catheter tip syringe (see image link below).
Once the 6 squeezy tubes were emptied, we cleaned them out with the syringe and cleaning solution (can use soap + water), rinsed, and then use the syringe to fill the squeezy tubes with our healthy yoghurt mix.

Wife also adds fruit, etc to the yoghurt and blends them to add variety for our toddler.
