It was Lumo last time I checked. Only company that was still offering fixed rates at a reasonable price.

    • Just switched a property to them too.

Just jump onto https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/ and you can grab your $250 bonus while you're there. I went from ReAmped to Lumo.

Simply Energy. No specific reason - it was the cheapest at the time I changed. No lock-in/ fixed rate contract though.

Ovo. Their usage rates, daily supply rates and solar FiT are by the far the best in my area. Though they'll be releasing their updated pricing later this month.

    • Think they are owned by AGL. So shock might not be so much as AGL owns a lot of generation assets. It is those companies that did not hedge and have no assets that have a problem.

Looking at the AEMO dashboard $300 MWH+ throughout the day if you had solar farm you'd be minting money. A few have gone bust lately but that is life.

      • Ovo aren't owned by AGL. They have a JV with AGL.

          @jv

          Is this true?

        • Guess they are screwed too then.

I changed a property to them because just have on standby connection connection is cheap.

          • @netjock: Actually, I think you're right. AGL purchased a majority stake in Ovo Australia.

    • Same Ovo are cheap with low daily rates, $5 monthly discount, and 8c/kWh Fit. There’s also an option to pay upfront and earn 3% on the balance.

      • I'm still getting 10.2c FiT.

I pay a flat rate (bill smoothing) each month, and get 3% on the balance. They overestimated my usage, so currently have a $1000 balance, which I don't mind given the interest rate. I wonder if they'll increase that interest rate, given the RBA has increased the cash rate.

  • https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/ pointed me to Sumo, plus some additional Cashrewards. Or I think they were also doing a $100 gift card if you swapped to them.

  • Tango, still cheapest for me. 19.8c/kWh and 81.4c/day

  • Latest.

Got from Energy Australia my small business rate. Usage is actually going down 2c kwh but supply charge going up like 20c a day. Not fixed.

Home from AGL, usage is going down 2c and supply charge going up 20c too. Not fixed.

So the problem seems to be only with retailers unhedged (generation assets are basically a hedge because you make money wholesale to subside retail). I can see on Amber the wholesale rates are like 60c a kwh and solar feed in is 40c kwh.
