How does this compares with the tablets posted by Clear?

    • this is really slow and not android

      Clear ones are way better

Chromebook and Android tablets are quite different in practice - these don't replace a straight Android tablet exactly.
I have this and love it, but my use case is very much aligned to a Chromebook with some Android apps on the side (mostly for stylus notes/document markup). Android app performance will be better with any Android tablet that isn't e-waste (deals that get posted here are usually good) if that's all you want.
I paid this price a year ago and think it's well worth it, but now that newer models are out definitely have a look and consider them for upgraded performance and SKUs with more RAM as they make this comparatively less of a bargain. Duet 5 is also on sale, though the Duet 3 is not yet which is unfortunate as it's the successor to this device.

Chromebooks get much longer software updates upto 8 years, whereas android tablets barely get 1-2 years.
This Chromebook will get updates till June 2028.
Personally I would go with Chromebook.

Can't recommend this anymore. I hardly use mine and it's so slow.

It's ok for web browsing. Chrome is pretty snappy as long as you don't open too many tabs. Using mine to type this message :)

Will wait for the next Xiaoxin then

And if you use a tab suspending extension, it doesn't matter how many you have open as only recently used ones are active. Never have to think about tabs this way.

        • Which one do you use?

          • @ThePasserby: I use The Marvellous Suspender. It's quite a seamless experience as suspended tabs come back quickly with a tap.
For higher priority sites or domains, you can easily whitelist them as needed so that they're not touched and it won't impact your workflow.

Would be useful on any low power/low RAM device and probably the #1 extension for these 4GB RAM Chromebooks as that's their greatest limitation IMO, particularly if you use the Linux container as I do.

I have one, browsing and basic tasks are fine, even light gaming is good.

This is a very fair price for this device.

    • What types of games would you play on this?

      • +1

I played a little bit of pokemon unite, BTD6 (gets laggy in late game) and pubg… not a big mobile/tablet gamer but it worked which was cool :)

      • Retroarch for SNES games on the go :)

  • +4

Definitely a supplemental device. Use mine for browsing and emails on the couch, as a light weight carry around when travelling both for quick emails and also for streaming services and local content while bored in the hotel room and various other basic functions like Retroarch. If you need a full Chrome browser with things like extension etc then this is better than an Android tablet, but if you want to use Android apps, this still isn't full compatible (if only they'd damn well fix Dead Cells which "broke" on all my Chromebooks a few updates ago :( )

Is it the fastest thing out there…nope, is it light, cheap and versatile… for my needs yes.

  • I had this item for like a year. Pretty good for youtube when having dinner lol.

    • note: use browser with adblock for youtube, not the app.

Unlike Android/IOS tablets, these have a full desktop version of Chrome, not crippled.

      • thx for the advice! I should have learnt this much earlier!

  • +3

Just FYI the little stand on the back of these fits perfect in the back of airplane seats which makes it great for travel

Not fast, but very good as a secondary device if your expectations are realistic. Browsing emails, YouTube and streaming, that sort of thing. Having a fully featured web browser definitely makes this a better device for that stuff than a comparably priced Android tablet IMO, in addition to a much longer support period.

You can also do some fun stuff like running Linux apps on it if that's your jam.

The keyboard is a bit whatever - it works but it's not anything special. The build quality of the tablet itself is much better than I expected and the magnetic kickstand works great. The screen is serviceable enough but nothing stellar - I was previously using an old Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 with a 2.5k OLED screen for YouTube etc. which was a far better viewing experience, but this one gets the job done.

    • Just to add to this
Keyboard is slighly smaller than a regular keyboard with a "compressed" set of keys on the RHS. You do get used to it but probably wouldn't want to type out out the Lord of the Rings trilogy on it but for tapping out an OzB reply, or a quick email fine. A good portable Bluetooth keyboard is easy to connect however.
The speakers are a bit meh in terms of quality and power as well. They'll do at a pinch watching Netflix in a quiet hotel room but doubt there's not many OzBers out there without some bluetooth speakers or bluetooth headsets..yes plural :P

  • It feels like this is long overdue for an upgraded V2.

  • Before anyone asks, yes, it seems Ok with Roblox app, my kids use it for that purpose nonstop.
Also used for BYOD at primary school.
