At this price is min to provide thunderbolt 3/4

    • What for?

        • +20

For a monitor with these specs at this price, USB PD is the least of my concerns.

    • +3

Not sure why you are downvoted. Yea it's disapointing that theres so many gaming focused monitors, neglect the features that would make them good productivity ones too. I'd love to also be able to plug my work laptop in with a single cable, would be worth a few hundred more.

      • The Gsync module has port limitations unfortunately. If you wanted more ports you'd have to deal with the near black flickering that's present on LG's Oleds with VRR

  • Very nice price….I just pull the trigger in last 1643 deal about weeks ago…

    • +1

I am gonna try call them tomorrow to refund the difference

      • This deal didnt work for me… I got the code but get error

"XXXXXX is valid code, but isn't applicable to any items in your cart."

EDIT - my mistake, there was a separate 7% code i didnt' see as crappy iiNet email doesn't work well on mobile website.

      • Me to. I bought mine on Sunday.

        • Give Dell a call, they have some pretty decent TOS and you can get the difference back - https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/lp/price-match-guarantee-anz

          • +2

@mirrinz: I would imagine they price match the $1609 price and not the $1496 one.

            • @ilikeblue: I called them. They said they can't match the $1496, but can for the $1609. Would have to process a refund and then re-order to get that deal.

              • @miaza0: Yeah my monitors already arrived so that's not an option for me. Good news is that I emailed dell earlier this morning and they've already processed the refund now.

            • @ilikeblue: SME with me. I took the partial refund. Can’t be bothered with a month wait.

              • @rockfever: If helps at all, the wait time might be innacurate on the website, I just re-ordered and delivery is less than a week. Dell will pick it up for free, and no restocking fee either. It is annoying having to repackage everything though.

                • @miaza0: Thanks mate. I will probably reorder then.

    any good 38inch dell
    deals?

  • +2

Check out youtube reviews. This apparently suffers from desktop text colour fringing due to the QD OLED, and if you have lights in the room, blacks will appear a bit more greyish due to the way the reflective coating is done.

    • +4

Honestly you cant really notice the fringing if your desk distance is not extremely shallow. I m using the monitor for coding and reading most time and didnt encounter any problem.

      • +2

Seems like it's more noticeable by some and others don't notice it much. I imagine they'll fix these issues in the next revision. QD OLED is still very new.

        • You can do a workaround by enabling windows cleartype text and increasing the scale in Windows. For those that are bothered by the text.

          • @kei: ClearType is enabled by default.

          • +4

@kei: to be fair, everyone should calibrate and enable cleartype, regardless of what monitor they have.

            • +1

@xrailgun: Cleartype assumes a regular rectangular RGB stripe sub pixel layout, we really need cleartype updated to handle the triangle sub pixel layout. If this is going to the be the standard going forward for OLED, MS will need to update.

              • @neomoz: TIL! but honestly i don't have high hopes for msft…

    • +1

I have one, text is pin sharp, I don't notice any fringing.

10/10 monitor, literally my only complaint is it turns off when it does pixel refresh, so you have to press the button to turn it back on, but apart from that absolute perfection.

      • how often does that happen?

        • Every time, but this was fixed with the new firmware

    • Seems you are better off getting the 42 Inch LG C2 if you have a deep enough desk, much better screen.

  • Oh man, but I dont have a flight deck to fit it into yet!

  • +1

Aw3821dw I can feel it soon.

    • +1

should have got it last month $1289 😝

  • Can I click n collect the monitor from Dell as we normally not at home during the day time?

Enjoy a special discount on top of this to one lucky person.

    And it's gone, enjoy!

    • Damn, wonder who claimed this one!! :P

    • How much was the code?

      • +6

        Made it $1206 shipped

        • +1

Wow nice! Any more? I'll buy for that hah

          • +10

@cyrax83: Sorry only get 1 set of them a quarter and I didn't use them last time so thought why not give them out to random lucky person

            • @beardymcgee: Nice cheers for helping out!

              • @cyrax83: yeh wow, that would make it an easy decision. Kudos to the lucky person that got it.

10 comments in 6 years and you bust this out…

Seeing our mysterious lurker seems to want to remain anonymous i'll say thankyou on their behalf.

  • Got the code.. but just says its not valid with this item.

    • Use the 7% off code, not the 20%

      • EDIT - my mistake, there was a separate 7% code i didnt' see as crappy iiNet email doesn't work well on mobile website.

  • +2

Any possibility of other codes? 😆

  • +1

    WVK1540KSH40ZZ extra 15% off

    5KMVNVTLP91GHN extra 10% off

Neither will stack and will work on anything on the dell store on top of discount

    Enjoy

    • +1

Seems both code do not work with the monitor?

      • +1

Ah seems like 15% is for alienware laptop only and 10% is for dell g series. My bad.

But they should still work on anything that's already discounted

        • btw, if i purchase the monitor back in eofy sales and want to claim the 30 day price guarantees for the price difference. Will Dell honour it? Considering I am currently student so I am eligible for the 7%.

          • +2

@pq8382: No idea sorry just a wheel in the cog with nothing to do with the store

    • no dice

  • +1

Any recommendations on other 38 inch widescreens that are highly rated? Perhaps something with USB C connectivity?

  • So they do a normal non curved oled at this price?

    • +2

Best to go for LG C2 42" if you want flat

  • +1

I got it for $1706 from a previous post, beautiful screen, average build, overall a happy purchase.

    • same, still waiting for the arm

      • The Dell arm? Or go with something like Ergotron HX?

  • +2

@dealbot any AW3821DW deals coming? I missed the sale last month. I need it!!

  • i think i'll finally pull the trigger. what is the return policy like if i dont like it?

    • +1

30 days but I think there’s like a 15% restocking fee or something. I took delivery of mine today, I was a bit meh. I left the house, came back, changed some settings, tweaked the monitor, played some games.. then the rest was history. Fell In love with it. You won’t regret it.

  • I will pass I'm waiting for the INZONE line up to be released by SONY :)… I got my eyes locked on the M9

    • +1

I think I'll be passing as well

    • +1

      Both different monitors, 27inch IPS @ 4K compared to a 34 QD-OLED that’s not 4K.

  • -2

    Don't use the codes guys

you will kill it for everyone else

Ozbargain (profanity) up the 10 year long dell purchase program cause some idiot on here shared the dell prefered partner codes,so they killed it

They will likely stop accepted the member codes too if there is a massive jump

  • None of my corporate discounts stack 😭

    • Same :(

  • what is the standard warranty - 12 months?

    • +2

      As per Dell website
Your monitor comes with a 3-year Advanced Exchange Servicei so that if a replacement becomes necessary, it will be shipped to you the next business day during your 3-year Limited Hardware Warrantyi. (Includes OLED-burn in.)

      • I see. No need for an upgrade “ 3Y ProSupport Premium Panel with Advanced Exchange Service” currently for $68 extra

  • What abt comparing with Dell Ultrasharp curved? Which one worth to buy as i am not really on gaming?

  • +12

Fantastic monitor. Had one since launch. There's a few niggling issues to be aware of:

    • Some firmware issues which are pretty annoying (and Dell have decided not to allow consumers to upgrade firmware for some stupid reason).
    • 2x active fans for cooling the panel/gsync module which are almost always on. They're quiet, but definitely audible if you have a silent PC like me.
    • Packaging isn't great, with many users receiving scratches on the edge of the anti-glare coating due to no foam, only cardboard padding.
    • Text fringing does exist, but wears in pretty quickly. ClearType tweaking helps a lot, or just use Windows 11 as the ClearType defaults on that work great.
    • The bezel is larger than you'd expect, and it's because the monitor is overprovisioned in pixel dimensions. This means that there's more horiz/vert pixels than displayed in the resolution. The monitor uses these pixels to perform frequent pixel shifting where it moves the entire image around a pixel or two every 10-15 minutes. This is to prevent OLED burn-in, and isn't noticeable in gaming use, but definitely noticeable with normal desktop use.
    • Even though it has 4 USB ports, 2 of them are on the bottom bezel. I would have preferred all 4 behind because I somewhat use my monitor as a KVM and don't want random cables hanging from under my monitor bezel.
    • Automatic Brightness Limiting and HDR is a big problem on this monitor. With HDR enabled, you will only get about 250 nits for a white image in desktop usage. However, with HDR disabled, that same image will happily sit at 600 nits. So you still need to manually enable HDR only when playing HDR content (yes, even in Windows 11 with Auto HDR).
    • +1

      Great feedback, thanks for that!

Looks like I'll wait until v2; hoping they'll solve some of these issues by then.

    • How do you find the anti-reflective coating? I've heard it's not great in anything but black room as the blacks get washed out

      • +3

The anti-reflective coating is actually pretty great for reducing reflections while still having a glossy look. It's definitely better than the LG Oleds in that regard.

However if you're viewing media you'll want a near dark room as any ambient light in the room will make the blacks appear grey as there's no polariser

        • +1

Yeah, this monitor sits in my office with blackout blinds, so it's fine to use. However if I want to open the blinds and get some natural sunlight in, definitely need to ensure I'm only viewing high contrast/high brightness content.

  • pulled the trigger. Thanks a lot OP

    • Did you receive yours? My says in production

  • +2

just FYI there is no way to update the firmware on these without sending them back to dell. There aren't any deal breaking bugs, only niggly UI issues but is pretty disappointing in this day and age and given the recency of the panel tech. There has been at least one iteration of the firmware so far, launch units had MOB101 and newer units are shipping with MOB102, with a few reports of MOB103.

  • Would you go this or the LG C2 42 for a PC gaming monitor?

    • If no console gaming definitely got this one. The C2 is TV not monitor and can cause a lot ABL issues in normal daily using.

      • Excuse my ignorance, what's ABL?

        • +3

it will dim the white screen by auto to prevent burn in

  • waiting for Samsung version which is the same panel but no G sync crap fan that I dont need as I have AMD card :) - hope it will be cheaper too

    • Price definitely will be higher than this…Both MSI and Samsung does not run a lot deal for australia market.

      • no way Samsung will be higher, you get less, Alianware adds a markup, plus it wont have gync
        Im guessing max $1200-300

  • I'm holding out until we get these QD-OLED panels in regular 16:9 format monitors, ultrawide is not for me.

    • I'm holding out for something smaller as well. This is a few inches too big (wide) to fit nicely on my desk.

    • It may be a while before these come to 16:9. This is due to the relatively low yield/success rate on these monitors, and the mother glass they are cut from. 21:9 aspect ratio yields more displays from one mother glass panel, while 16:9 creates more waste.

  • +1

Spoke with Dell about price match guarantee. They cannot price match with the 7% coupon, Dell advised to purchase again and refund existing monitor at no extra cost. Dell will come pick it up from your home at no cost.

    • Estimated delivery is 30 days now, so keep that in mind if planning on returning and re-ordering.

      • nah the delivery is same as before. 2 days only

        • Oh ok. That's good to know, maybe the Dell website is innacurate. Says 30 days on it still

          • +2

@miaza0: I reordered. Paid 1496, Dell organising my refund and will get someone to pick it up. Eta delivery 2 days.
