Can anyone advise?

I personally own the oled version which is also on special on prime day and I absolutely love it! It feels very well built, feels good to carry around. It feels premium and runs premium. If you prefer a better brighter more colour accurate screen the oled would be worth it. Otherwise, the one you had is still good but just not gonna be as vibrant and bright. I opted for it as we use it for content creation and graphic design.

    Deal of the day for Prime Members: Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro 14 inch 2.8K (2880 x 1800) OLED 400nits i5-11300H 16GB 512GB Win 11 Slate Grey 82NH003YAU https://amzn.asia/d/cHhO8so

    • Great to hear! To be honest most of the time it's hooked up to a dock anyway.

Do you think the i7 processor is worth the extra $200 on the model you have linked?

      • Oh then don’t worry about the screen then! Yes there is an i7 non oled on the link. Would only recommend getting the i7 if budget permits it if you are planning to run resource demanding apps like media creation apps (photo and video editing), 3d rendering, light gaming. Otherwise, you probably won’t even notice the difference in performance in basic computing as they’re going to be equally good in those. (Office apps, browsing, consuming media)

      • Do you think the i7 processor is worth the extra $200 on the model you have linked?

In the past, the i7 brand has sometimes been put on a significantly faster processor, e.g. more cores.
But in the case the difference is trivial.
The 1800 lines OLED is not such a trivial difference :-)

Same cores, clocked a bit faster. Is the GPU different?

  • my only problem with laptops is they get hot alot atleast my gaming one feels like its on fire at all times while just browsing

    • Gaming ones need a fair bit of fine tuning to adjust to non-gaming use.

      • how do i adjust it so its not overheating anymore? i didn't think that is normal as it has one of the best cooling systems for a laptop

        • Cooling pads are popular among gaming laptop owners. Would look up your laptop model on reddit as a lot of owners share their tips in there.

        • most gaming laptops would have the quiet, silent or cool profile that you can use for day to day activities.

the way it works is that profile will usually lower the TDP so the processor will be power limited (lower clock speed) and will not reach the high temperature as often (in some laptops, not at all). this is why they are advertised as "silent" profile as the fans dont get triggered as often or as loud when running in performance mode.

some slim gaming laptops (MSI Stealth, Gigabyte Aero) can still be very noisy even on the most silent profile just by opening multiple Chrome tabs.

    • Laptops and heat are really a unit by unit problem dependant on how power hungry the internal components are and whether the cooling infrastructure internally is up to par. This likely shouldn't have too much of a heat problem given it doesn't have a dedicated gpu etc, at least the AMD based models I have used haven't.

Seems like a solid deal. As I will be primarily staring at text for long periods of time, and don't want to worry about any sort of burn in mitigation, I went LCD over Oled. I think yesterday's (which I ordered) AMD offering is overall a more compelling option ( https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/711946) but thi will likely do the job quite well for your needs.

    • Ohhh that amd deal was good!

Might be a noob question but here goes. This or the mac air 2022? I know different price points but as you can tell I am not good with computers

Are you already in the Apple ecosystem? What do you plan to do with the laptop?

For Uni work and as a backup machine for Video/Photo editing/production (My desktop is my primary for that work) I had a similar dilemma, and ended up going with the AMD version of this because a Macbook Air with equivalent storage (1tb) was going to cost me an entire $1000 or so more than this. If it is straight up just content consumption, web browsing etc, I would say that it is hard to justify the extra $ for the Mac. If you are doing content creation however, having an extremely powerful but silent chip (due to no fans) like the Apple M2 internally will be an asset depending on the workflow.

Another pro of the air is just silence and its likely better battery life. But really this question depends on your actual use-case and requirements for the machine.

      • Use pc but everything else is mac. Mainly want to use it heavy multi tasking such as opening a lot of tabs, heaving use of the general office apps (excel, word..etc). But that’s pretty much it

        • Either will be fine for that really. The Air will be silent at all times due to the lack of fan, from reviews I have seen this may ramp up the fan with heavier workloads but be quiet most of the time. It's really up to you whether a bit more battery, silence and efficiency is worth the extra money, as well as the personal preference of which OS (Mac or Windows) you would rather spend your days in.

Great take! I would advise the same thing. You can’t go wrong with either with the activities you posted, Westpac. Just extra points for Air if you use an iPhone as your main phone. Otherwise, both are premium capable portable devices that would last you for years to come.

      • This is very much a generalisation, but you'll get a few more years out of an apple based on the OS updates. I have got 6-8 years out of Macs before they are just too slow, whereas my PCs start to bog after 4-5 years. That includes complete OS re-installs on PCs and upgrading SSDs to larger/faster versions. That said, the money you save on equivalent specced PCs usually means you can buy another every 3-4 years..

  • The i5 11300h 8GB 256GB version was $719 earlier this week so not sure if this really is a good deal. The AMD deal is a bit better value than this but not sure about thermals.

    • Oh really? Is the double RAM & SSD not worth it?

      • For a difference of $500+, I don’t think so. If it was i7 with 1tb ssd then sure. But in saying that, the other deal was likely on clearance which is why it was so cheap.
If it interests you, Intel NUC M15 with i7 and faster RAM can be had for sub $1200.

    • +1

AMD is always better than intel with thermals.

  • I think it was 999 during end of financial year sale

  • Why is it so heavy? 2.45KG doesn't seem right….

    • +1

Lenovo website suggests 1.30KG to 1.38KG. Amazon specs are wrong.

    • Packaging, power supply, … safety directions.
