The patent for the original Knog Oi bell seems to still be active - https://patents.google.com/patent/USD799356S1/en, so not sure if this would be classified as a counterfeit bell?

    • +5

Of course. Bigger question. Does anyone in China care?

I have a genuine Knog Oi bell and it’s nowhere near loud enough to be a useful bell. Hoping this knock off version is louder…

      • Agree, now using a genuine Spur bell. Expensive but much louder.

I've had one of those bells, they're crap and a rip off at $3. Better off with a cheapo brrring type bell with the rattlers inside.

I bought one of what looks to be the same model from ebay. Worked fine but fragile, it lasted a month before I broke it by putting my bike upside down. Replaced it with a $3 bell from Big W that's still going well.

    • +1

Same. Got one of these off eBay. They look good, but will fall to bits.

      • Only if you are putting the weight of the bike on the bell… I've got one of these and it's held up fine. Like its literally a bit of metal with a spring loaded "donger", not much to go wrong if you don't "abuse" it.

  • Support! Bought 4.

  • I'm very far off 40 but I approve this code.

  • Cheers op

Bike riders don’t use bells any more.
They sneak up behind people walking and shoot past them missing them by inches. If they change direction, BAM!

    • Based on that comment I'm starting to believe you really are Elon Musk

      • No it was serious.

I have been almost hit by bike riders on footpaths a number of times. Are you going to tell me it is common now for a bike rider to ring a bell as they approach a person walking in front?

I walk all over the place every day. It NEVER happens now, they just shoot past you. It used to be a common curtesy in the distant past.

        • Discussion can go both ways.

Most decent cyclist still uses them, some don't. Like any walker, rider, driver not all are same, majority tries to do the right thing, others don't care.

          May be it's long covid…

          • @Seven8Nine: I agree with you except for the “majority” part, only a very very small minority ring a bell or horn. Most don’t even have them.

It used to be universally done decades ago.

I find hese bells aren't quite loud enough to alert people wearing ipods, engaging in conversations or at an age where this frequences might be lost, so after several dings you end up shooting past them missing them by inches.

Just received mine was impressed with the speedy delivery. But was sad when I couldnt open the bell wide enough to clip over the handlebar. Poor design, it needs a hinge to attach it to the bike. Dont waste your $3

    • Was about to say same. Other similar model bells have a hinge to open up. With these you could only either

      • thread it thru before you apply bar tape, so have to do it at time of installation of handlebars/tape for a road bike
      • attach it to a Aero bar or some other handlebar extension
      • use it on a MTB with a removable grip

Maybe that's why it's clearance.. design issues. But hey it's $3, good if you're could make it work.
