I'd rather buy this than Blunt

    • +1

Haha that's the reason I found this, someone mentioned this umbrella which led me to discovering the deal.

      • ;)
Got mine for 3.87 somehow but that was 2 weeks ago.

    • Blunts get stolen

      • +1

        Blunts get left behind
Blunts were made in NZ before they got outsourced to china for higher profits (greed)
Blunts are way too expensive for what they are
Aparantly have a lifetime warranty which i hear is pretty goood

        • I remember seeing their advertisements years ago about them being supposedly windproof, when I saw the distinct shape in the recent deal I knew it was familiar. Are they actually that good?

        • This post is so weird, how is it greed if they're made in China but still offer lifetime warranty?

          • @nikoris: I am mistaken, just a 2 year warranty is offered

Even though it says it is 24 bones, the photo only shows it having 12 bones (like this). And I don't think it's the real Xiaomi umbrella.

      • I was confused as well. Seems like the ribs are doubled up in the middle segment which they count as an extra rib

        • Mmmmm…..spare rib

          Dinner sorted

  • Thanks! $5.28 for me as well. Not sure why.

  • +6

IIRC, these ones aren't actually Xiaomi umbrellas. I have the original Xiaomi/Mijia branded one, which is solid.

    • +1

You might be right because some comments in the previous posts claim this is not the real Xiaomi umbrella, or that if it is, its quality has worsened over time.

      • +1

Xiaomi have their own version of Kickstarter called Youpin. Products sold there often get picked up by international sellers and they slap Xiaomi or Xiaomi Youpin in front of the brand when they aren't really Xiaomi. If course there are brands like Viomi where Xiaomi are a major shareholder.

these are inferior to the only true Xiaomi made umbrellas - Mijia (which is no longer made)

          • @pinkybrain: Correct. You'll notice i disclosed this in the deal as a heading.

            • +4

              @Clear:

Correct. You'll notice i disclosed this in the deal as a heading.

I don't think many people read your disclosure or skim past it quickly..
they just see the word "Xiaomi" and associate with high quality value for money chinese brand/product..

Xiaomi + mi logo is now added to so many products on Aliexpress even if it has no actual connection (via eco chain or actually Xiaomi made).

Xiaomi has become so popular and makes (or has other companies make) so many different variety of products that the average consumer has no idea if it is a true Xiaomi product or fake Xiaomi product (that the seller trying to mislead the customer).

Essentially these so called "Xiaomi" title in the heading of these products ozbargain posts are doing a similar thing to those aliexpress sellers..
ie fooling people into buying an inferior product based on brand recognition.

              • +6

@pinkybrain: People not reading deal descriptions is their own problem. Similarly with start and finish times. Especially when you have active members from a really long time ago (10+ years) who still haven't figured it out.

Either way it's pointless to try and complain to me about a deal I posted nearly 9 months ago. That's been locked for editing a very long time ago.

                • +4

                  @Clear:

People not reading deal descriptions is their own problem.

Not saying it is your fault or your responsible for them not reading..

but the point I am making (which I don't think you are really getting) is putting Xiaomi in the title for inferior/known faulty products is similar/akin to Aliexpress sellers putting Xiaomi + mi logo on their products..

Your previous post had (12975 clicks) and this post already has (4889 clicks)…

Many of those clicks are going to end up buying these so called "Xiaomi" inferior crappy umbrellas or whatever
and end up throwing them in garbage bin / landfill after the product has failed/malfunction from a single used as mentioned by many comments in your own bargain post.

You have posted many (hundreds/thousands?) aliexpress bargains on here (which there are some actual bargains)
and I am sure you have read many of those comments about which products you have posted is consider crappy duds in the comments

                  e.g https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/857195

Surely you should have some personal self awareness/responsibility of not contributing to continuing advertising crappy faulty junk (if you reposting the same product) that will end up in landfill

                  https://etimg.etb2bimg.com/photo/99687121.cms

                  https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/b/umbrella-garbage-problem-ill…

e.g. knowing a specific product has a known fault/failure/malfunction but still keep on posting/advertising the product anyway.

                  OR

are you the type of person that don't care as long as you got your 10K or more clicks AND got your reward/bonus?

                  • +5

@pinkybrain: You may not have realised this but I'm not the poster of this deal. So you're having a go at me for having a supposedly insufficient warning on a deal 9 months ago when you should be focusing that attention on this deal. I'd recommend hitting the Report button and seeing if the mods agree to have Xiaomi removed from the title with an explanation in the description. I'm neither mod nor power user so I can't change it.

are you the type of person that don't care as long as you got your 10K or more clicks AND got your reward/bonus?

Normally I wouldn't reply altogether when sin bin comments are made, however I recommend checking member of the month under site discussion. You'll see that I haven't been paid $150 for that deal. I declare my rep status when required, i.e. Geekbuying, Tronsmart, WhatGeek, ESET, Kugoo, Kogan and Romoss previously.

                    • @Clear:

You may not have realised this but I'm not the poster of this deal.

I do know you are not the poster of this deal.

My first comment was about this product is considered a dud based on comments in a same older deal.. that is all.
You are the one that reply and started the whole but "I put a disclosure" justification/defense.

So you're having a go at me for having a supposedly insufficient warning on a deal 9 months ago when you should be focusing that attention on this deal.

You are again missing the point of my comment or trying to misdirect to avoid addressing my main point/issue

Not about putting insufficient warning etc..
You can put a giant font WARNING on all your Xiaomi posts.. and I agree that you are NOT responsible if people are not reading/noticing the warning etc
but that is not what my point is about.

                      My point is

You are a power poster on ozbargain..
You make hundred of posts for aliexpress in a year.
You are well known on ozbargain as the person that regularly and mainly post aliexpress deals.

You are the equivalent of a celebrity advertising a medicine pill.
Now if you know that the pill does NOT actually cure the illness then instead of saying "I put a warning label on it" so not my responsibility.
How about have some responsibility and don't advertise it in the first place?

                      So..
If a product is a DUD and you know the product is a DUD (based on community feedback/comments) then you should have RESPONSIBILITY in not REPEAT advertising/posting that same product in the future.

Is that so hard to understand and agree with?

I'd recommend hitting the Report button and seeing if the mods agree to have Xiaomi removed from the title with an explanation in the description.

OK So essentially what you are telling me is I should go report it to the mods/police and if they agree to change the rule then you will STOP but if they DON'T change the rule
then you will CONTINUE to advertise products you know are DUDs as long you put a WARNING label on the advertisement.

GREAT, thanks for letting us know you will NOT take any responsibility for your own ACTION and WILL continue posting these DUDs in the future.

I'm neither mod nor power user so I can't change it.

You are a power poster and can CHOOSE what you post.

You'll see that I haven't been paid $150 for that deal. I declare my rep status when required, i.e. Geekbuying, Tronsmart, WhatGeek, ESET, Kugoo, Kogan and Romoss

You don't need to be an official aliexpress rep, you could be a shadow, an undercover or even just a non official etc..
There's always some sort of kickback, bonus, extra discount, some sort of reward or $ from each store or even aliexpress …

Nobody posts this much and mainly aliexpress deals without getting something in return.

Not saying you should STOP posting aliexpress deals if there are ACTUAL GOOD DEALS (ie not DUDs)..
but don't make it seem like you are not getting something in return.

@pinkybrain: Right so what have I actually done wrong in this deal to warrant such a response? Would that be upvoting the deal?

Dude, have you even read what I just wrote and even understand what the core issue here is?

No, this has nothing to do with upvoting the deal…
And I know you did not posted this deal.

                          Issue is

                          1. This product is considered a dud (community feedback) based on previous same deal post
                          2. You made justification/defense for posting of DUDS as long as you put a disclosure/disclaimer
                          3. I said "How about take some self responsibility since you (power poster), if you know the product is a DUD,
not post/advertise any known DUDs again in the future"
                          4. You seem to not want to agree to point 3.
                          • -1

@pinkybrain: When I posted the deal I didn't know the umbrella was a dud. I knew that it was a Xiaomi ecological chain product and disclosed that.

So your points would be more applicable if I was to post a deal on this now given I know that is is shit and doesn't last.

                            • +1

                              @Clear:

yes that is why I am not "targeting you" about posting this deal.

So your points would be more applicable if I was to post a deal on this now given I know that is is shit and doesn't last.

Well that is my point… of what I have been keep trying to telling you, which you still have not said you would agree to.

                              • Basically if you (power poster) posted a deal and you learn it is a dud from the community, then you will not post it again in the future
since the DUD would just end up wasting people's money and the DUD would just go into trash / landfill
                              • -1

@pinkybrain: Yeah so I don't intentionally post dud deals and if I know something is shit I won't share it. Noticed how I haven't shared this umbrella when it's reduced in every AliExpress sale since? Especially when it still tops the best seller charts.

Your whole spiel has come off as an attack out of nowhere, especially when an old deal was brought up repeatedly.

                      • @pinkybrain: Okay, so now we've gone through all that, can you please recommend a superior umbrella that doesn't cost ~$100 (e.g. Blunt)?

                  • +5

@pinkybrain: I’ve put in a disclaimer in the post but considering people are getting the umbrella for less than $4, I doubt anyone cares

                • @Clear: hi clear, any reolink deals soon? thank you!

                  • +1

@phillay123: Nothing concrete yet. Still working on it.

                    • +1

@Clear: Here's an idea - from now on with somewhat known fake Xiaomi items, Xiaomi is listed in inverted commas or a star inside all post titles. Fair enough if its a good scam and deludes the poster, but I think for known items it should be easy enough to list. That way people can decide if its still worth it (which in this thread's case, seems like people will still buy it even if it's fake, since the product stands on it's own in price/performance)

edit: sorry for @'ing you clear, I was just replying. Wasn't trying to @ you directly.

                      • @aong152: The mods would edit that out for going against title guidelines. If I removed Xiaomi and didn't provide a reason why in the description, certain mods will add it back since the AliExpress listing says "Xiaomi". What people don't realise is that there's a lot of strict guidelines around how deals are worded and formatted.

Hence why I suggested pinky take the issue up with the mods by using the Report button (exactly what it's designed for).

    • +8

Yep, purchased 2 in a previous deal and build and finish isn't like my other Xiaomi umbrellas. Wouldn't buy again.

  • Created new account and paid 3.65 for blue.

  • Some I created a new account and got the blue one for $2.

This umbrella is the same as those generic auto open/close umbrellas that you can find all over Amazon, eBay and Aliexpress. Xiaomi stopped making umbrellas, the ones that they made many years ago was amazing. This one which claims to be Xiaomi (which I have) is nowhere near the same quality. If you close it by manually pulling it down instead of pressing on the button, the mechanism will bend and jam, making it very difficult to compress back into the compact position afterwards. Save your money.

You won't find any Xiaomi logos on this umbrella.

If I could find the original Xiaomi umbrella, I'd be tempted to buy one given the good experience that I had (someone stole it!). To compare, this is what the Xiaomi umbrella's handle looks like, you can see the Xiaomi logo at the base of the handle. https://imgur.com/rg4A1YU

  • Thanks OP. I bought a Blunt, but it's too long to be securely stored in my backpack's side pocket so I gotta get a shorter umbrella.

  • Thanks, got one for $5.04 by creating a new account

  • Got mine for $3.65

  • Got it for 3.66
    thanks

  • Combine with 16% cashback

  • $3.71 for me - wild

  • Doesn't work with PayPal

  • 3.65$(including taxes) for the red one using Facebook login, 9.90$ using Gmail, also including taxes

  • Blunt all the way - I bought mine 4 years ago, the shaft looked off for some reason and had it sent for repair with no cost from Blunt.

  • I'm the one that commented on the Blunt umbrella deal about this - just FYI folks this isn't a sale price… This is normal price… Surprised by the hype lol.

But yes can confirm I recieved mine a week ago for $3.87 new user (ordered late March) and have used once and while I'm sure it's not nearly as nice or solid as the Blunt, for the price paid appears absolutely amazing.

  • Are you sure these are Xiaomi branded? I can't find them on Taobao, and using Taobao's image search resulted in 19 CNY no name brand umbrellas with the exact images.

    • OP mentions about it in original deal post along with most other comments since.

    • +1

Not xiaomi branded as per other comments above. Got one and it is really different from the original xiaomi. The ori is smooth and great experience whereas this one is hard to collapse after opening.

  • People from Adelaide: what is this device for?

  • If you buy the yellow one you get a record with chinese intelligence.

  • Managed to buy a black one for $3.69AUD - just make a new account

I have own a real genuine "xiaomi" umbrella long time ago, and a few so called "xiaomi" umbrella recently, the qualities are day and night. Don't know about this one.

  • 24 bone fully automatic version for AUD17.59

    https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005008459041995.html

  • Just a general query, but Xiaomi used to be all over ozbargain few years back. Toolkits, powerbanks, headphones.

Pretty dead with anything Xiaomi related these days.

    • They still make a lot of things, but I also think they have pivoted to higher end, and are focusing more on China first these days.

For example they make an EV that is extremely highly rated by everyone that has tried it (the CEO of Ford got one shipped back from China to the US to use as his personal car, and admitted it!), and it apparently sells like hotcakes there, but they haven't announced any plans to go international with it yet.

  • Don't know there's a Xiaomi umbrella before, looks good, can have a try. There are quite some good deal on ozbargain.

  • I got the umbrella and downloaded the app but it wouldn't let me open the damn thing. Can I get a refund!?
