I have a few of these. They are pretty generic, can run on most generic / Tuya apps (I am using mine on the Brilliant Smart app).

Save 20%. Was $15.95.

Probably one the cheapest wifi plug with energy monitoring that has AU safety standards and local store warranty.

Oh, and yes it is slim. You can fit two of these side by side in a standard double power point.

(FYI thanks to @Xizor. See this comment here on how to operate a time schedule scenario : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12408504/redir)

It's terrible isn't it.. We have enough for humanity's need but not enough for humanity's greed.

Most things I do now is just to entertain and give something to do for my monkey brain.

Yeah I am at peace and already know what may happen since I think I was in kindergarten maybe even preschool since then it has just been the longest waiting game ha lol.

Life is funny but it is also sad.

Make the most of it or don't we are all damned either way sadly.

Peace be with you and also with you.

@AlienC: All the best. Good on you for trying.

            • @mortymorty: I think a lot of us are trying but just like wealth inequality our even collective small actions are nothing compared to the big super giants.. I would guess that the energy footprint of the conservative group would be less than 1% of total human energy usage.

I’ve got a temperature sensor that links with my wifi plugs connected to oil heaters. When the temperature drops too low in the kids’ rooms then the heaters switch on.

      • Have you got it set to switch off when it reaches a certain high temperature or just the low temperature parameter.

        • +2

When that happens it calls the fire department automatically.

          • @mortymorty: Lol. If temp is over 80 degrees please call local fire department.

        • Just low temp - heater switches off after a specific amount of time (e.g. 20 mins).

      • Yes, i have a ton of temperature and humidity controlled routines like turn on the fan on the log fireplace if it gets too cold. Or turning the solar hot water heater on if the PV solar is exporting.

Smart plugs, contact switches, motion sensors are awesome especially when used with controllers like HA, SmartThings or Hubitat. I even have setup mouse traps to send a push notification and flash a few Hue lamps around the house. And to think when i was a kid, i was the TV's remote. :)

    • I use one for my Dimplex dehumidifier, it powers up in the previous state.

    • Turn on my espresso machine which needs a bit of time to heat up

      • Will your coffee machine turn on though, without pressing a button on the machine?

        • +2

Yeah its a machine that has a push button like a switch where you can leave it "on" even if the power at the wall is off.

    • Coffee machine, warm it up with a shout at Google Nest or via mobile while driving home.
Festoon lights on verandah, come on at sunset for a few hours.

    • For delayed start on my 30 year old washing machine; to turn off my e-bike charger so it doesn't stay on all night and burn my house down. Another application I'm considering: to power cycle the powerboard to which my NBN modem, wifi routers and home security hubs are connected - I can reach the switch but with some difficulty.

    • Floor lamp. Heater.

    • I have them on my dishwasher and washing machine to notify when cycle is complete. Automatically turn dumb lamps on at sunset (when my curtains automatically close). Power cycle my modem if internet drops (I have a separate router). Monitor my gas heating to notify me if doors have been left open while heating is running. Monitor my hot water to ensure bathroom light doesn’t turn off automatically when someone is having a shower (and motion sensor can no longer see clearly).

    • I have an electric heat pack that takes a while to heat up. The only way to tell if it has finished heating up is by watching the LED on it, which is easy to miss. I set up Home Assistant to monitor the power consumed by the heat pack; when it finishes heating up, the Nest Home Hub in the room will announce it.

  • Can I plug my electric blanket into this and use Google Home app to turn it on and off remotely

    • +1

      yes

    • +1

Assuming your electric blanket has a mechanical switch

      • +1

So it would need to be always switched on at the switch to work because this plug can only be turned on and off with the app?

        • +2

There is an on/off switch on the bottom of the device for physical switching.

To expand on prhino's post, if the electrical blanket has a control module that requires turning it on after providing power by plugging it in, then you won't be able to automate it. However, if the electrical blanket has a switch that stays on and so can be controlled from the outlet, then this should be suitable for your use case.

          • @Daddy: One down side to the blanket is if you turn it off during the night using the mechanical switch, you’ll have to remember to turn it back on again the next day. Messing with an app during the night would be a pain.

If you lived alone, using voice to turn it on and off would be ok.

  • +1

What is the peak wattage? Nothing in the specs indicates max peak, only 10amp total max. A 2400w heater would go over 10amp momentarily.

    • On the first product picture, it shows the total wattage is 2400W. Isn't that it?

    • +1

I have my lay z spa plugged in to one. It seems to draw around 2000w give or take when both heater and filter running and works fine.

can I setup a schedule for this?

  • I got the Meross plugs (4-pack for $50 from Amazon, $12.5) but thinking of switching out to these ones because the Meross ones are huge so I can't use the adjacent power outlet.

Does this EKO plug allow remote switch on/off, and on/off times schedules like the Scenes in the Meross app?

Also are there apps/plugs that show hourly breakdowns?

    • I have 4 of these primarily for the energy monitoring. No hourly breakdown in the electricity stats using default or smartlife app, just daily total and live/current. Someone suggest that might be possible if integrated with home assistant but i am yet to try.

      • Do you mean you have the Meross, or EKO?

        • I have EKO

    • +1

Remove switch on/off - definitely yes!

Time schedules - as I mentioned above it has an option to do that. I'll give it a try when I get a chance

    • +1

      See here.

And yes, you can use your chosen app to do scenes with this EKO plug

      • Thanks mate, I'm still trying to wrap my head around your instructions. I'm using the Smart Life app. Do you have a step by step guide for say if I want my heater to run from 10pm-4am daily? Cheers.

        • +1

Have a read of the example in my post linked above, that pretty much covers that use case using Tuya Smart which i understand is mostly the same as SmartLife.

  • Can they be flashed to Tasmota OTA?

    • +1

This comment reckons they can't be.

    • I swapped the controller out with an ESP8266. Very easy to open and if you have the right format module it's a drop in replacement.

  • will this work with hubitat?

  • Is there a web app where I can manage this plug too?

  • +1

This would be good if you need to login to your desktop PC remotely but the PC is in a crashed state, you can reset the power to it so it reboots.

  • Toss up between these or the Arlec Grid ones at Bunnings.
Mostly just want to check energy usage on a few devices.

    • +1

      Same thing.

    • If it's any use, I have the Arlec one. You can gather the day by day data in the app (eg I'm look back at the usage on 7th May) and its possible to register and get it working within the Genio app (no need to bother with the Arlec thing), and of course, Google Home. Only thing I'd say is the real time data is a bit delayed - switch something off and it can take a while for the app to update.

      I use this

      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-smarterhometm-smart-plug-…

It used to go on special for $39.99 for a 4 pack

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/kogan-kaspemhusba

Making it $10 roughly per smart plug with energy monitoring and compatible with the kogan smarter home ecosystem which looks affordable and cheap but have only done very little research.

Uses the smarter home app and can do quite a lot of things and even connect with kogans own motion sensor monitor, temperature and humidity monitor and window and door monitor.

Personally if I have time I wanted to set one up to track motion at the front door so I know when deliveries arrive (and maybe scare my housemate lol with a kogan security camera with 2 way microphone).

Another fun project was to set one up to watch the possums as they run across my window and roof almost every night I would get notifications when the camera tracks movements and can maybe set it to auto record and capture the possum movement but I derail from the topic now Heh.

Also wanted to set a few humidity monitors around the house where mould has formed to get some data on it.

Trying to avoid having to use a dehumidifier as I am removing the mould surprisingly successfully with just one cheap Coles mould remover which costs less than the energy involved in powering the dehumidifier. Also hoping that we don't get any more freak of nature rain but good luck to that too much wishful thinking there if I'm being completely honest.

  • Thanks OP. Bought 3 as the energy monitor stopped working on 2 of my TP-Link HS110's and TP-Link want nothing to do with me because it's slightly out of warranty… Paid almost 3 times the price for those too ($12 vs Approx $30ish)

  • Can this timer on-off work without Wi-Fi? For example to reboot the router ?

    • +1

Get a normal dumb (ie. non wifi) timer switch for this application

    • +1

No, it must be online for any of the schedules to work. Like bdl said, get a dumb timer from Bunnings

  • is this a compatiable Home kit dervice for iPhones?

    • No, not natively. You would need to use a server like Home Assistant or HomeBridge.

  • Any good deal for delivery? Non energy monitoring

  • Perfect timing that you posted this deal. My wife left the hair straightener on and although luckily we didn't have a house fire, I later bought this for my peace of mind. The inching timer feature is great where it automatically turns off the socket after it's been on after a set period of time. Pretty happy with the product

  • +2

For anyone wanting to run these on Home Assistant with ESPhome it's not possible without hardware modification (very easy with a soldering iron). It uses a CB2S module. You might be able to use some sort of Tuya bridge in Home assistant but unsure.

The case easily pry's open without glue and can clip back together. Either bodge a ESP-12 in there or use this as a drop in replacement. Calibration for mine was voltage_divider: 1739 using the platform: hlw8012, model: BL0937.
