SunRice Medium Grain White Rice 5kg

SunRice Medium Grain Brown Rice 5kg

White Rice: The medium-sized grains are round, tender and lock in moisture, qualities favoured in Middle Eastern, Korean and Spanish cuisines. With a tendency to cling together. Medium Grain Rice is also a great choice for delicious desserts.

Brown Rice: Brown Rice combines the nutrients of a whole grain with a distinctive nutty flavour. The outer layer contains vitamins and minerals including thiamin, niacin and magnesium. The slightly firm texture is perfect for salads and as a partner for grilled fish or chicken. Brown Rice is a tasty, nutritious base for many meals.

I do not know of one single Asian person who would eat this low grade tosh..not one, and I know lots

I bet I know more than you and my partner is also Asian.

This rice may not be for Thai dishes, but it's perfect for Japanese or Korean.
It's excellent out of a tiger, zojirushi or panasonic rice cooker.

        • it's rice dude… get real

@cobrakai: And with that one comment you show just how poor your pallete is. I suppose steak is just steak as well? Milk is Milk, Tea is Tea, Coffee is just coffee? OF COURSE NOT!!!!!

        • Would be a shame if you read SunRice's 2022 financial report and saw they sell over 70% of all rice produced in Australia to Asia.
But hey, your sample size is probably more reliable. You know so many Asians…

@Guilhotina: Probably to ex pats in Singapore wanting pie sauce and rice. I very much doubt the slop they sell here is the same as they export.

This Coles deal is cheaper. Especially if it stack on 20% Flybuys deals. Great brown rice for so cheap.

Have you tried it? This particular one is calrose rice, not some dry supermarket long grain. I've tried many a variety and for me this holds up.

Years ago there used to be black market to get it INTO South Korea

+1 for the Australian brown rice. Excellent cooked in a Tiger rice cooker. Nice texture and flavour

Medium Grain Wholegrain Brown Rice is Product of Mixed Origin, no longer 100% Australian brown rice.

  • This med grain is below average, bought only once and never again.

for majority of the buyers, spend a little more for Sunrice Hinata Short Grain Rice 5kg which is 12 dollors at woolies now. If u cook rice a few times a year, get Sunrice Koshihikari.

I know sunrice is not the best but product of Australia.

Australian grown version of Sunrice medium grain should be above average. The only time it was below average was during the droughts and Sunrice imported medium grains from Cambodia and the packaging would clearly state that it was a product of Cambodia at the back.

Cambodian jasmine rice are above average lately but I haven't yet been brave enough to retry their medium grains.

Yeah I have a bag of this I think, it's Calrose rice and I really like it actually. I also switch between this and basmati, jasmine and brown (and now even black) rice depending on the dish. Other than this Calrose rice taking me back to my mum's cooking when I was a kid, I like the soft texture and how it clings in clumps. Whereas jasmine and basmati are more particulate and I guess 'harder'.

I used to be a critic of growing rice in Australia but I've learned some positive things about their practices and I guess it has a place. Anyway, that's offtopic.

    • I agree with this. Had those rice often when I was a student as they're on half price discount quite frequently. They are hard so have to put more water to cook, and taste bland and lack of sweetness. On the other hand the sunrice jasmine one is much better.

  • Sunrice don't seem to sell long grain anymore

    Anyone know why?

    • +9

They started choping it in half to get more bang for their buck😏

  • Pity they dun discount smaller bag. Switched to basamati rice for lower GI, but occasionally will still like to eat medium grain white rice for some dishes. Dun need 5kg.

  • I remembered buying this when we were in lockdown in Melbourne. Not the most amazing rice but passable. At $8 for 5kg it’s definitely on the cheaper side but probably will pass.
