    Bad sweater ? Worth $19?

      • +28

You seem like you are somehow associated with the business.
        Are you ?

        • +11

They've suddenly gone quiet. Considering the account was made 30 minutes before the deal was posted, then I say yes

        • +3

The tone and format of the deal description is a very obvious indication of association to the business

        • +12

I can't imagine him being associated.. Spackbace posted this when you had to buy $90 worth of drinks and that still got 8 up votes.. OP is posting a hack to get it without purchasing the drinks.

I doubt a multi billion company would waste their time sockpuppeting to sell a $20 jumper..

          • +1

            @Savas: Point…

          • +6

            @Savas:

I doubt a multi billion company would waste their time sockpuppeting to sell a $20 jumper.

…Or maybe thats just what they want you to think! 🤔

          • +6

            @Savas: Yet, that's exactly what's happened…

          • +2

@Savas: You might be right, however these jumpers would be someone's responsibility, they are just trying to earn their pay check and probably please their boss

  • +2

Good Xmas jumper when you have to dress up

    • +1

nothing more cringe than people who dress up in "ugly xmas sweaters" in australia when its the middle of summer and 30c+ outside

      • +57

nothing more cringe than saying cringe

        • -7

Haven't heard that one before, so it's cringeworthy to say something is cringeworthy now?

Nice way to try and censor the word I guess.

Absolutely agree with the bigkahuna though, people trying to jump on an American "tradition" in Australia when it really doesn't work… Square peg, round hole.

          • +11

@Binchicken22: Censor!? Lol. No one is trying to silence you. It's an opinion.

That's just like saying your comments on the sweaters are trying to police what people are wearing. It's just your opinion.

            • -3

@stabfish: Fair enough, maybe censor is the wrong word.

I still think it's a weird take to say it's cringeworthy to say something is cringeworthy.

The comment is getting lots of up-votes from the "free" sweater buying crowd though so I guess I'm outnumbered 🤣

Marketing is so easy these days,

Offer a cheaply made $10 product with your brand on it for "Free".
              >
Say "oh sorry we are doing you such a favour the least you could do is pay us $19 for "postage" so we don't go broke "
              >
Have a few hundred/thousand people proudly wearing their "bargain" "free" product with your branding on it!
              >
              Profit!

              • -3

                @Binchicken22:

Marketing is so easy these days,

Yet you aren't doing it…. why is that?

              • +1

@Binchicken22: Yep true… Wearing branded clothes to act as a walking promotion. Decided to wear plain clothes from now on. Uniqlo is quite good at this.

          • +2

            @Binchicken22:

people trying to jump on an American "tradition" in Australia when it really doesn't work…

Like people trying to tell other people how to live their lives?

        • -1

generally i would agree but there simply isnt a better word to describe it

      • +3

I'd argue it's hotter for them to wear vs hard for you to look at

      • +1

People wear them for Christmas in July… in summer it’s generally a loud Christmas shirt.

      • +3

While generally you’re right, I did attend a Boxing Day Test in a jumper and heavy coat a couple of years back as it was bloody freezing. Needing a jumper isn’t totally out of the realm of possibility (in the southern states, at least).

Big Kahuna Burger… that’s that Hawaiian burger joint, right?

I don’t get to eat burgers much cause my girlfriend’s a vegetarian, which pretty much makes me a vegetarian……

  • +1

Thank you op 👏🏻 always wanted one.

This is basically this post from last year posted by spackbace
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/629008

Except you don't need to buy any beer.

    • +6

BEER? CANADIAN CLUB ISN'T A BEER!!!

      • +3

I will print you a certificate for this discovery!

        • +4

Let me guess, the certificate is free but I have to pay $18.95 for delivery?

          • @dsar: I am not a thief. I will charge you $18.92 and if you pay cash you can round it down!

      • scrimshaw remains oblivious to Canadian Club's anti-beer campaign

  • +18

I feel like CC probably aren't losing out a great deal on "giving away" these "free" sweaters…

Real postage cost is probably more like $10-12 and getting these promo sweaters made in china for a bulk order is probably not much more than $9 per unit.

    • +1

By my calculations that's $19-21. The jumper is $18.95.

      5c saving at least

    • +4

If it was a Xiaomi sweater we'd be all over it

    • +1

Plus factor in all the user data they harvest which is worth good money.

  • Is it made of wool?

    • +7

Acrylic shit, pretty warm but can irritate your skin

  • +2

    Paid $18.95 - I'll take it.

  • +36

how to sell a sweater ? order 1000 pcs from china at $8 each, list it as free and then put postage at $20. people are clicking like crazy

    • These have been selling on eBay for $80+ over the last 12 months. This is a great opportunity for those who always wanted one to finally get one.

      • +2

The $80 one on eBay doesn't look like this one though

        • Semantics. There is obviously a market for these sweaters.

      • +13

what kind of person has "always wanted" one of these things?

    • -6

$8 each? not likely. they can make a GoreTex jacket for $8

these sweaters are probably $0.5 at cost if not less, and $0.5 more for shipping out of China bulk. so roughly they are making $40 per unit with this discount applied

      • +3

so roughly they are making $40 per unit with this discount applied

How do you make $40 profit on item you are selling for $18.95?

        • plus shipping and handling.

        • +1

Dude his comment made my day, as if everything is free in China lol.

          • -2

@phoenixpan: I did lot of work for apparel businesses, I've seen the numbers. high volume high margin, laugh all you like :)

you buy a t-shirt here for $50, it costs $0.35 to make. once you bring them here in Oz costs start to ramp up.

but if you don't bring them here, and ship out of China, that's all there is. let's say $0.5 to make per unit, $0.5 to ship economy worldwide bulk, plus some operational costs. pocket the rest

            • +1

@shabaka: So are those making them in China paying CC to take them? Otherwise you're just going to have to spell it out for those of us not in the business.

How do they make $40 profit off a sweater that is being sold for $18.95 including shipping and handling? Where does the other $21.05 + costs come from?

              • @Miss B: Clever accounting

              • @Miss B: haha my mistake, from the wording of the deal I thought the sweater is $18.95 and then $18.95 shipping and handling on top of that.

with that corrected, $0.5 production + $0.5 shipping + let's say even $1 operational to flow the data for the shipping, 3PL in China to hold the stock etc. we're talking $16.95 profit per unit.

I am on a conference, reading OzB and hundreds of emails during short breaks, easy to get confused

                • @shabaka: Nice.

How is the 2022 Financial Literacy & Procurement 101 Congress going this year?

                  • @UncleRico: hey Unkle Rico, long time no see! no puzzle deals for a while, you had me worried there, with covid and everything going around :) how have you been?

I became quite insufferable since I joined the big corp world I'm afraid. not enough time to follow Ozbargain with the dedication it deserves.

conference was great, it'll take me a week or so to get my literacy levels back up after so much conferencing

                    • @shabaka: Never better, shab - thanks for asking!

I've done my share of corporate conferences - they can indeed be a taxing endeavor.

Be sure to rehydrate over the coming days…

            • @shabaka: Mate, for $0.35…what kind of trash t-shirt you were dealing with?

I am from Hangzhou, one of the biggest apparel centers. I never buy t-shirts cheaper than ¥50 ($10). The cost for merchants is roughly 30%~50% of the selling price (regardless of the price tag), and the manufacturing costs are lower, depending on the quality and factory reputation. For a $10 t-shirt, the manufacturing costs could go down to $2-3. It's roughly like Uniqlo graphic t-shirt, which is the minimum quality that I can accept.

I would kindly suggest you stay away from the $0.35 t-shirt, they are not going to make you or your clients happy.

And yes, theoretically you are right about these "free shipping" deals, basically, they make money from excessive shipping. But in this case, I personally think they are leftover from last year, so MAYBE it's not too bad.

    • If the sweater costs $8 each, and postage takes about $10 (maybe slightly less)

That leaves about $0.95 to cover any expenses they incur for this (staffing, website maintenance and etc).

The way I see it is CC has excessive stock so they are getting rid of them at neutral cost or even at a loss.

People clicks like crazy because they understand what it's worth

I struggle to understand what negative voters are thinking……….

    Not sus at all

    • +4

definitely not trying to clear there stock before the date closes…………

  • +8

Ty op - even though there is suspicion you are a sneaky marketing burner account haha

  • +5

Cheers. Was going to buy some cc to get this. Will still buy some cc though. Running dry. Get it.

  • Worth a shot. Christmas in July party coming up

    • Seems they won’t be posted till next Fri the earliest, maybe the week after that.

Below are the postage details we have received from PayPal. Please ensure these are correct.

I ended up getting one just for the joke factor. $19 for postage is definitely inflated to make up for whatever it cost them to buy these. But for under $20, I'm not complaining (except I just did…)

    • +1

Idk man postage is crazy these days it’s not like they can just jam this in an envelope and put a stamp on it haha

      • +4

Yeh true, but parcels under 500g are $9.30 Australia wide with Auspost. And sending in bulk I'm sure they'd get a nice discount on that price

        • +4

That’s outdated info haha, nowadays Aus Post allows If Pack, It Sends. You still pay $9.30 for a small satchel and weight doesn’t matter anymore

But yeh, $18.95 for delivery is expensive but comes with a free sweater :)

          • @BargainsGrabber: Good luck getting the box this comes in into a small satchel haha. Under 500g and size doesn't matter (first time it's true), and it'll be $9.30

Lmao true, I wish all my deliveries came with a free sweater

            • +2

@nicholasv: Even if you go a size up, postage is $12.95.

As your comment suggests, there’s definitely inflated delivery charge to cover some sweater costs

              • +1

@BargainsGrabber: Yeh very true, and by some of the sweater costs I assume you mean all 😂 But I was actually considering buying a slab of CC to get this, so still putting it down as a W in my corner

  • +7

    Is this for Prince Andrew?

  • +1

On the website, before proceeding to checkout: "the turnaround time for delivery of my sweater is 4 weeks".

Doubt anyone will get it in July…

    • +6

      Probably dropshipped from china

  • +5

It’s not bad in a campy way, it’s just bad. Horrible disposable merch

    • +1

Yeah, basically like wearing a car seat cover. It will probably pill like crazy within a month and end up being used to wash the car.

  • +5

Why did I just buy a CC Bad Sweater? (no need to answer unless you wish to, rhetorical question…)

  • +4

    mine arrived today
fyi, im in-between medium & large mens clothes, so i bought the large size and its massive, should of bought a medium :(

    • +4

      At least it looks bad

      • +1

I plan to wear it to a party for the giggles lol

    • +3

Should be just right for the KFC addicts on here then.

    • Try after one wash with/without dryer~

    • Damn, wish I saw this comment last night before I did the same thing

    • How can you buy a medium when there's only 2 sizes

      • I did this early I was able to choose more sizes

    • +1

I recieved a confirmation email so i changed my order from the L/XL to the S/M.
      I hope I don't regret this decision

  • +5

You all need this huge white watch with it too like this guy! https://youtu.be/GrRQYYXZKAc

    • +5

This video saved me from bying this cheap shit!

    • +1

Hard to believe but the guy who joined him had an even worse sweater.

  • +2

I’ve already got an awful cc and dry bucket hat which was free with a six pack. Paying for this seems insane!

  • +16

    This is not a bargain.

This is pure advertising for a $18.95 branded jumper.
