Time to return the one I got on prime day!

    • Damn same here! Can Amazon simply price match and save the return process?

      • You can ask, it’s a lottery.

        • I bought mine directly the other day from Cubo using an extra $20 off coupon. I've just repurchased and emailed them asking to cancel my previous order. I paid with PayPal so I can always return for free if need be.

        • +1

Probably best to rebuy and return to avoid any headaches!

      • Nah, Amazon don't price match, already asked. They will only refund the difference if its the same purchased through Amazon and has an identical ASIN.

  • Becoming a father later in the year, researching way too many things haha. is this the monitor to buy over the others or anyone have a better recommendation?

    • +2

It's great mate. I have two. At this price it's a steal.

      • Say no more, im buying now haha.
Is the sleeping pad worth it as well?

        • +1

Ours is nearly 2 and the sleeping pads/sensors/smart socks etc are great at the start when you're pretty sure they'll stop breathing any second, but you get sick of the updates fast. I'd look for something second-hand so it can go back on marketplace for what you paid 8 weeks in.

      • Stand worth it or just go for the wall mount?

    • +4

I wouldn't recommend this to be honest. You're much better off getting a camera with a dedicated monitor rather than relying on your phone. I have this and I highly recommend it. At $279, it's a good $100 cheaper than when I bought it and I wouldn't hesitate to buy again

      • +1

I agree with what you are saying about the phone, is the vtech smart home compatible?
Im leaning towards a smart home one because i have google nest hubs everywhere that i heavily rely on for other things

      • I have this also. I was fortunate to find a store selling it cheaper than baby bunting so was able to use the bunting price beat.
The standalone monitor is nice and no need for subscription. In saying that I haven't tried Cubo so can't compare them.

      • +5

I couldn't disagree more. Carrying yet another device in this day and age is silly. Our cubo is integrated to all our iPads and phones etc.

No buffering issues, great camera with superior night mode to the Vtech models.

Plus if we are next door we have the ability to check on our daughter sleeping.

        • Yeah and it's compatible with Google Home etc too in case something like dedicated monitor functionality is needed. Given I already had a few such devices around the home, being able to say "hey google show me baby" (and then using a phone or tablet for anywhere else) is way more convenient than carrying around a whole other device.

      • Dunno why U got negged. Very valid point to have a dedicated monitor. I'm guessing it has its own wifi too, so not reliant on home wifi being up.

        • +1

Dedicated monitor with a 3 inch pixelated screen… rubbish. You will get sick of carrying that around quick smart.

          • +3

@maxwellish: The one linked is a 7" screen. Quite nice when the MIL comes around and you don't need to set her phone up with the baby monitor as well. VTech also comes with remote if you want to use an app. To each their own but a dedicated monitor was a huge selling point for us.

            • +1

@stufrase: Fair enough. We like the integration with all our devices.

            • +1

@stufrase: Agree with this. You get app access and parent unit access. We gave our Cubo to a friend as we found it gimmicky.

          • @maxwellish: @maxwellish: No one carries the screen around.

      • +1

I have the Vtech RM5764HD model, also with dedicated screen and remote phone access. Phone is nice but the dedicated screen is what we use 95% of the time

      • It’s even cheaper on Catch!
I just migrated to this from a cheaper model, after moving away from our Cubo due to the overbearing notifications and need for phone access.
The Vtech linked provides phone access via app but the parent unit is really solid. We have grandparents looking after our little one and they don’t have any interest in apps so the parent (grandparent!) unit is very useful.
A friend tried Nanit too and found it pretty useless / gimmicky. Most of our parent group is moving away from these Cubo / Nanit type “smart” monitors.

      • +1

They aren't quite the same thing though? Is there face cover detection and roll detection etc on this like the cubo?

      • Definitely better to have a dedicated monitor. I need to use my phone to do stuff.. especially when you use the monitor to watch the baby all the time. And you can take it travelling with you rather than relying on wifi (some hotel wifis wont let you connect directly without going through some gateway/portal)

    • +6

Honestly, I'd steer clear of any camera which is Internet-connected and would recommend a camera which has its own receiver.
The one we got was this and it's perfect. Great, crisp image, nice range and battery life, USB-C (but not PD, unfortunately) charging:
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Monitor-Display-Auto-Pilot-Two-Way…

It looks like it's gone up in price, though. It was $159 when we bought it but it's up to $199 ($249 minus $50 coupon currently on the page) now.

    • +1

It really depends what you're comfortable with. We got by with an audio only monitor.

    • I also have been using this since the birth of our 8 month old little girl, it's been amazing ! We've also now got a recording of the very first time she rolled over which is pretty cool

  • I have this with the stand and love it. Very reliable and get a good amount of volume on the white noise. I use the stand because I don't like bolting things to the wall but its not absolutely necessary if you want to save money.

  • Good price! We went the $59ogan monitor. Alerts for sound and movement and was enough for us in the end. Temp and humidity side of things were pretty off the mark but we have an egg

  • Awesome grabbed one for later in the year when bub is due!

  • I'm not a big fan of Jeff B., but I would not buy this anywhere else but from Amazon - their return policy is excellent. Direct or eBay may not have options as good as Amazon

    • But the price buying it directly is significantly cheaper than Amazon

    • At this price I think it’s worth me buying from the website direct now. I’ll message Amazon and see if they’ll match

      • I don't disagree on your assessment. It's a very tempting price point

      • Let us know how you go!

        • Just spoke to them, unfortunately no go for a price match.

  • +1

We have one of these in the babies room and ended up picking up the stand mount later, it feels a bit flimsy but is actually pretty sturdy. I don’t use the sound alerts as we can already hear when she cries from across the house. The noise generator (we use the rain sound) and video monitor on any of the smart screens have been great for getting a now 4.5 month old baby into a good night time sleep routine. We get 11-12 hours of sometime noisy sleep at night and being able to check the screen when she cries and confirm if she is up/sleep crying/self settling has been really handy. Rain sounds and a closed door have allowed us to watch decently loud tv at night too.

The auto photo and video recording function in the Cubo app has been pretty cool too. They are not amazing quality but there are some neat shots e wouldn’t have captured otherwise.

  • Do we know what the coupon is for and if it will expire?
Need a moment to speak to Amazon to see if they’ll match

  • Cool features but they aren't necessary but paying this much and you have to use your phone. I don't know about anyone else but my phone cannot be a dedicated screen. I don't have spare phones lying around either

  • +2

Highly recommend, one of the clearest night modes on the market (which is what you'll use 99% of the time).

    • Temp and humidity at the crib.
    • Can switch on microphone only monitoring mode so you can lock your phone/tablet.
    • Subtle night lighting you can control from your phone (more handy than you may assume)
    • White noise (though admittedly it's not a great white noise).
    • Crib detection zones that know when you're assisting the child and record it (handy for knowing how often you're assisting overnight)
    • Great recorded history that you can quickly scrub back and forth over the last 24 hours.
    • AI alerts for specific things (Covered face which is very important early on, cough, cry, danger zones for when they're toddlers etc),
    • Sleep analytics that are actually quite accurate.
    • Usually comes with a good quality floor stand and a small mobile stand (The Nanit camera floor stand costs over $100US on its own for example)
    • Just having multiple screens around the house is useful. If we're in bed we can both check on the baby easily. In the lounge room? Throw it on the ipad. Outside? Turn on microphone monitoring mode.

Never purchased a subscription, not required.

Just spoke to Amazon, no price matching unfortunately.

At $269.30, i'll purchase off the website and take a risk - $80 difference should be okay.

  • Bought this direct from the website not that long back (at this price), the shipping was fulfilled via Amazon, it arrived in an Amazon labelled box!

  • FML bought the other day for $210 😩😩😩

Bought direct, wonder if they'll honour an additional discount or cancel the order?

    • 45 day returns through them

    • I bought on prime day 13th, just email then to cancel that order since it hasn't ship yet and they cancelled it and refund after 20 mins.

    • I just canceled my order from the 12th and straight away they refunded.. now bought again.. just email [email protected] and ask to cancel order.. give them your order number and they’ll get back to you.. mine was canceled in 15 minutes then straight away bought with this code

      • Ditto. Very swift and helpful customer service

  • This looks so much better than the Owlet kit we have (purely for the sleep sock oxygen and heart rate monitoring - NICU baby for some extra stress). Outside of that, the monitor looks better as do the features and alerts. I will agree with some commenters that having the phone as a monitor CAN be cumbersome. It’s fantastic at times, but then if you have focus/DND on you need to make exceptions for the app and have phone volume up to capture background audio monitoring. Truly a case of YMMV - our first had a dedicated monitor to carry around and tbh, that sucked in plenty of ways too.

  • Heads up, if you’ve got a spare phone/tablet ‘Baby Monitor’ app does a pretty damn good job for a couple of bucks

    • +2

Exactly my thoughts too. I'm surprised that not many people in ozbargain suggested this.

  • +1

$50 cheaper than what I paid, and I'm too lazy to return it. Oh well.

  • -3

    It is not good

    • Do tell more

      • -2

All the 'real' pros are things that you get with a basic $50 wifi cam. The rest such as sleep analysis, thermometer, fun owl shape, paid subscription are at most a nice to have, but really it's just gimmicky.

        • The main pro is likely the "sleep analysis."

Is there a free solution that automatically records these? or are you talking about manually entering these into an app?

          • -2

@ihfree: No that is a gimmick. Baby sleeps, baby wakes up. Circle of life

            • @neyo: It's not always that easy. Tracking sleep can definitely be worth while especially if you're having difficulties.

  • Have been using one for 4 months now as a first time parent. It is amazing, one of the best baby monitors. The infared night vision is so clear too!
Any parent will know, white noise is a life saver and this little unit has a selection of sounds to play

  • Great price! Unfortunately my babies are too old for this now 😂

  • I bought one last year when it was on sale for $347. It's a bargain at this price.

Highly rate this Cubo Ai. Sure it doesn't come with it's own dedicated monitor but if you've got a phone, a spare tablet or a spare phone then it becomes a great asset. We didn't subscribe to the premium as it wasn't needed.

    Pros
    - Very reliable
    - Has many features
    - Other family members can view it (handy for grandparents who are overseas)
    - Taking a dump but can't carry that dedicated monitor in with you? Use your phone!
    - Captures many funny moments when they're asleep.
    - Night vision camera quality is very good
    - Lots of different sounds you can put on to soothe the baby
    - 2 way mic.

    Cons
    - Wifi can be a pain to setup at times
    - If your wifi is down, then you obviously you won't be able to view anything.

  • Any deals on the safety bundle? Code doesn't seem to work on that one

  • +1

    Code no longer working?

    • +1
