3090 should be paired with i9 surely?

    • 20 threads 5ghtz should be all good

The buyer who wants the 3090 cares not for your logic

    • I would have thought that also

    • At 4k gaming not much difference. For somebody doing lots of CPU/GPU rendering yes.

      • Or for that oft neglected class of builder, the wealthy enthusiast - or an even more esoteric subset, the overclocker.

      • This is the ultimate deal for you buddy…

          Yes, just bought it.

    • Depending on the actual scenario :) For single-core oriented games like CS or SC, you may sacrifice 10fps but save $100 bucks.

  • nice… 3090 under $4k

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3090 GAMING OC 24GB Video Card

Gigashytes tiny fans on their triple fan cooler and awful thermal pads had my 8GB of GDDR6 running close to 100 degrees. I cannot even begin to imagine how badly 24GB of GDDR6X is going to be thermally throttled by their terrible cooler designs.
It's also only a 2 year warranty, but at least the VRAM should've overcooked and died long before then. Hopefully the replacement card will be something that works!

Thanks for the highly informative speculation.

I'm not overly impressed by Gigabyte's fan tech either. The only Gb card I ever owned (very briefly) was a three fan setup R9 390 - when I installed it and fired it up all those years ago, the middle fan shattered and threw shards of plastic all over the place. Spontaneously.
I had a ding-dong with the vendor but eventually I got a refund, then bought a MSI equivalent (2 fans) which I ultimately cooked to death, but at least the fans were durable. I'm now a green team owner but will never go Gb again. No speculation there, just bitter experience.

Hmm just wondering why people want a 3090 system right now? 4090 should be the first Lovelace card to be introduced around August-September, and even if you can't afford it then the 3090 will have the lowest price before OOS.

  • I asked for this exact specification of PC recently and was told my roughly $3K budget was insane.

Thanks for this, I think it's a great price for the specs, I'm referring a heap of friends.

    • Thanks :D
