    • Hi SydDan, when you spoke to the resort did they mention what happens for those that have already booked and paid? Will they honour the drinks?

      • The free flow drinks is still included in Marriot "Experiences Ultimate All Inclusive-Rate" package, I don't think it was an error by Qantas, so no reason the resort will not honour.

      • I didn’t call the resort directly
        I called Qantas holidays
I would assume they would honour the drinks if you had already booked/payed for it but best bet is to call them and have a chat
(Call Qantas holidays on 13 70 66 , got straight through when I called)

    • Probably get a better deal if you book when you are over there. They are desperate for business. Drinks are cheap there compared to Australia (as well as food). Can stay in a resort here.

  • I cancelled (not only due to the drink issue) never got a reply from Qantas and I was on hold for 4 hours on the phone. Thanks to SydDan for doing the hard yards and finding out.

Marriott best price guarantee works plus the fact that with elite status you'll earn points / get the benefits I might not get if booking direct through Qantas.

    • Sounds like a hastle.. can't U book directly and claim the Price beat?

Anyway I wouldn't pre book everything from Australia anyway, just book first night or two and organise form there, would be better local walk In deals everywhere as it won't be Busy etc

      • Yes, that's what I meant booking through Marriott directly.

At this point however will probably just go to Yao Noi for some peace and quiet.

I'm not brave enough not to pre-book. I want to know the exact room or suite I'm getting.

        • Yeah it mainly applies to cheaper end accommodation, and it's actually beneficial to check it out first then just move there that day or the next. A lot of the 3 star places can be run down and not look anything like the photos or you see a better place for cheaper.

Not really that convenient for families and short holidays I guess , but 5 star joints should be fine anyway.

  • can you add 2 kids to the package?

  • since free flowing drinks is out of question now, does anyone know if the lunch/dinner's include any (alcoholic) drinks?

    • they include no drinks at all except tap water

  • For those who used Marriott price beat, can you still see the all-inclusive benefit under rate details?

I checked my booking after the price beat and the rate details just says "best rate guarantee rate", with no mention of the all-inclusive benefits at all. I have a feeling that I will turn up to the hotel and they will claim my rate doesn't provide all-inclusive benefits, which would defeat the purpose of this deal.

    • Yes was about to post this. Did the price beat myself and found only the breakfast is included under the new rate. Emailed the hotel and they confirmed that nothing else would be included other than breakfast and they did seem to ignore my question of why a price match/beat do not include all the benefits from original deal, which like you said defeat the entire purpose of price match/beat

      • Maybe just book from Qantas before the offer expires, still good value even without the drinks, after Qantas intentionally removed the free drink, Marriott all-inclusive benefits are now different, that's probably the reason they won't match

        • Yes, the accommodation and property looks good for that price and 5 star (I assume)
just buy drinks @ 7-eleven, big-C, and or go outside the hotel property and look around

      • So Qantas got greedy and removed the all inclusive drinks package and Marriott price match only includes breakfast.

I wonder if it's better to book the Qantas deal without drinks or get a 25% with Marriott price match but pay for lunch and dinner yourself.

Prices at the hotel for the rest of the day's food and drinks could rack up pretty quickly (somewhat understandable for a 5 star resort type place I suppose), they are far more expensive than normal prices outside the hotel, with the added problem of the phuket taxi mafia so you'll be paying at least $20-$30 a day to get in and out of close towns if you want to eat / drink elsewhere.

At ~$180 a night with the price guarantee, if only breakfast is included, it's not really a good deal for a room and breakfast in Thailand despite the hotel being pretty ok.

          • @Sydney-bargainhunter: Thanks for the info. Seems like the Qantas deal is still the best value then. Shame how they removed the drinks because I can see even two people having at least a couple of drinks with lunch and dinner daily. That probably would add a fair bit to the total bill depending on how expensive the drinks are at the hotel.

    So just got this email….

There have been some queries from our customers regarding the special inclusions for the 'Full Board' offer you have booked. We have resent your booking confirmation, by email, as we would like you to re-confirm the details of the offer you booked are correct.

Please don't hesitate to reply to this email if you have further queries, concerns, or clarifications.

From what I can tell the unlimited drinks has been removed…

Does anyone have the page from Qantas that advertised this deal?

    • Got the same email, came here to ask the same question

      • You heard from them?

I was on hold for 3 hours then they said they would raise the issue and get back to me…

    • were the unlimited drinks included in your initial booking confirmation?

      • Just checked not there, typical!

Not sure what to do now….

I booked September and November as i was waiting for confirmation when my job was ending, just got it this week we finish mid september…

        Free drinks great deal…

Then again I might end up not spending heaps of time at the hotel…

I'll figure it out if they even get back to me

        • looks like you made the booking after Qantas changed the offer
          drinks are cheap there anyway

          • @excite: 2nd August i made the booking, I don't think they ever included the drinks…

Hence the mass email sent out.

  • Someone is calling me back later apparently…

  • I contacted the hotel. They confirmed unlimited drinks are not included within the package, just breakfast, lunch and dinner (and accommodation). It does still include the bucket of local beer, which is better than a boot to the stones.

Copied from correspondence I got from 'em:

    We are pleased to inform you that Full Board package will be inclusive as per below;

    Full board package:

    • Daily breakfast for 2
    • Daily 3-course set lunch and dinner (3-course dinner can be exchanged for a buffet dinner with food only)
    • Double room upgrade From a Superior Pool View to a Premier Pool View
    • 1 bucket of local beer on arrival
    • 25% discount on spa treatment

Still fairly decent value with the food and the room upgrade, but it feels rather scummy that Qantas never bothered reaching out about the amendment. I booked when the drink inclusion references were still present on the site.

A couple of reviews (>1 year ago) on TripAdvisor reference drinks at being around $10 USD for a cocktail which is expensive when compared to local bar prices, but not really out of the ordinary for a resort. Unsure if prices have changed since then.

As others have suggested, it'd be cheaper to head into town.

I booked a week and a bit in total for a relaxing getaway with the other half. I think I'll just bite the bullet and pay for drinks as I plan to do nothing but eat, drink and be merry. Ordering drinks on demand while basking in the sun is a part of that plan.

    • as long as drinks included in your confirmation email from Qantas, you probably can still ask for it when check in

      • Just had a peek at the booking email that I received on the 21st of July, no references to the drinks, other than a welcome drink and the bucket of cold ones.

I distinctly remember hitting the site later that night to show someone what we had booked and the drinks were still referenced, but a post in this thread on the following day highlighted their removal, so it sounds like the page was updated sometime between the 21st and 22nd.

I guess it makes sense to not expect an update from Qantas given the inclusions in the confirmation email never detailed unlimited drinks, however, it still doesn't sit right with me that the site has said one thing yet the confirmation says another.

If only someone snagged a screenshot of the page (even if cached) before Qantas made those edits.

  • I just got an email saying the drinks will be honored even though they were not in my booking.

Apparently drinks were never included it was an error from Qantas, but they will honor the agreement!

    • Hey mate, did you get that from Qantas or the hotel? and did your original booking email mention the all-inclusive drinks?

      • Hey I just checked the qantas website for my booking. I had the drinks included in the email. I noticed this in the details of my booking:
        Offer Description
        Includes:
        - Room Upgrade
-Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner daily (full Board)
Our Full Board Package includes: Daily breakfast, Daily 3-course lunch, Daily 3-course dinner OR buffet dinner (food only), Unlimited drinks from All-inclusive beverages list at any outlets from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm and Resort activities and free use of non-motorized watersport.

        • 25% off Spa Treatment

        Inclusions
        Guaranteed Room Upgrade
        Lunch Included
        Dinner Included
        Breakfast Included
        Welcome Drink
        Spa Voucher Included

I was going to reconfirm directly but seems pretty clear to me all inclusive drinks ARE included. YMMV though if your original email didn't contain drinks?

        • Yeah I just got confirmation from Qantas that the all-incluive drinks is part of my booking, even though my email mentions the bucket of beers instead. Reached out to the hotel to reconfirm before I book flights.

Just received this email from Qantas even though I booked after they removed the unlimited drinks line from the booking page (though I did email them about it to see if they'd still honour it).

    Hi [Professional OzBargainer],

Apologies for the delay of response.

We've spoken with our management and we can confirm that the unli [sic] drinks package is included on your booking [redacted].

If you have any questions, feel free to reply.

Mate congrats. I just wonder if the hotel will honour this considering you're booking confirmation (like a lot of us here) doesn't have the unlimited drinks line included. I'm rooting for you though!
