Stayed here a few weeks ago
What is being offered here is quite good
It is unlimited drinks (standard beer wine and basic cocktails) with breakfast ,lunch and dinner.
Breakfast is a standard buffet thing ,but lunch and dinner you choose what restaurant/cuisine you would like
There is a Thai restaurant ,a Italian restaurant and a grill

The only additional expense is really if you select to eat at the grill and have some sort piece of meat they will charge you an additional surcharge (most expensive was about 200 baht extra for lamb)

Some negatives of this place ,it’s about 5kms away from Patong , so if you want to lounge around the resort all week it’s fine but if you want to go shopping or exploring it’s $15 taxi each way
The resort is large but it felt half empty always
There were not a lot of Aussies around.

Speaking of Patong ,it’s a ghost town during the day
The shopping centres are still closed it’s only really mum/dad stores opened at the moment desperate for business
It’s does come alive after dark ,but it’s no where near what it was pre covid

Reach out if you have any other genuine questions about the resort ,happy to help ,I might try and get over again with this deal

Did you go to Karon beach south of the resort? I went there about 7 years in a row and always found it nicer than bush Patong. Last time I checked it seemed pretty empty.

      • I've stayed in Karon, was great. Patong is a bit hole depending on what you like…. ok for a short stay for me, but much prefer getting out south or further north towards Khao Lak etc. Hard to know whats what now though.

        • +1

There was a lady who owned a massage shop (legit) closer to Kata that did tour bookings at a fraction of the cost of everywhere else. I checked street view from 2021 and it's empty. Probably still closed now sadly.

I've been near Khao Lak a couple of years after the tsunami and it was all pretty much wiped out. I'm sure it's real beautiful now.

          • @Clear: When i was most recently there in 2013 and 2017 it was all good with progressively expanding development. No hint of the Tsunami. Such a beautiful spot away from things with lots of nice coastline and beaches, you really do need your own vehicle/scooter given how spread out it is. First time we went there we actually got a driver to take us from Krabi, a few hours of winding hilly roads and what not… you can imagine the motion sickness fun with the speed that most Thai's drive.

We went to Koh Lak at Easter in 2019 and three of five ended up with dengue fever. I ended up in intensive care and was lucky to make it. No immunisation for it, no cure and if you get the same strain again you’re unlikely to survive it. Not many people appreciate the risk of this urban, day time mozzie. I know we didn’t.

          • @LXE3: Thai hospital up to Western/Australian standards??

            • @Wally: I actually ended up in a private hospital in Malaysia as I just wanted to get the kids to Legoland and thought I’d be fine. It was quite good as they’re used to treating people with dengue. My hubby didn’t get symptoms until we got home and the doctor had to Google it!
A few weird things like - get in the shower, we can’t give you any more drugs to get your temp down - oh, you didn’t bring a towel? Also put blood back into me when they took too much out on one of the two hourly tests.
Wouldn’t take out the cannulas until I went down to admin and paid 😬

            • @constipated: Yes, but not really available here unless you’re going to live permanently in a Dengue endemic region, have had dengue and are under 45. The restrictions are high because the vaccine has killed so many people. I’ve done my homework- I’d love to be able to return.

$15 for 5kms? Mate I love 8kms from the city and a taxi is under $20 in Australia. It's cheaper like $16 with OLA.

I think you were getting ripped off for the taxi fare

      • +1

It's called the Phuket Taxi Mafia for a reason.

    • Hi mate,

Thinking of jumping on this deal but maybe staying somewhere closer to Patong for the first week, but your comment about the shops being shut is a bit of a concern for the mrs…

      What exactly is open?

Are the tourist spots still open? Animals, Zoos etc?

      Night life any good?

      • +1

The market style shops that line the streets are open ,the type that there is no set price and you bargain for everything , the 2 large shopping centres in Pataong were closed. , I asked about the main one and the locals say that they were doing work to it and it was planning to be re opened in November , but when I was there there was no sign of any work taking place , and it looked like it had been locked up for 2 years with no maintenance completed on the outside at all

None of the “day spas” where Girls go for massages/facials /hair etc are open
(You can get all that at the hotel though)

I walked past at least 5 places where you get “work done” (Botox etc) and they were all closed

Thailand is notorious for having dentists everywhere
I found maybe 2 or 3 open after walking past 10 that was closed

The tourist attractions are opened , in my time there I did a phi phi island tour and a city of Phuket bus tour

Phi phi island boat was about half full and “the beach” very quite (well compared to the chaos it was last time I was there in 2017)

The things the big budda and the temples etc are opened and seem to be turning over big numbers of tourists

Due to it being a ghost town during the day I was really worried about the nightlife until I went .
there was a lot of people walking up/down Bangla and it seems to have a bit of life to it
Though I would say most of the bars did seem to be not busy

I think it’s a really good idea to stay somewhere central to the town for a few nights and then move up to the resort for the unwind

I’m planning on doing exactly the same
I’m doing songkran next (Thai New Years) where we will be staying in the heart of town close to all the action and then move up to this resort afterwards for a week as the “wind down”

        • Thats a great idea, thanks for all the info!

  • +1

Karon was VERY quite ,a lot of the hotels boarded up and left ,it’s actually quite sad to see the state of it

    • That's sad to hear. I was days out from heading to Kata before the border shutdown in March 2020 and want to plan it again, but it sounds like everything's a long way from being back to semi-normal

      • +1

There are some positives of it being so quite
I did a phi phi island tour in 2017 and that was insane. I did it again a few weeks ago and it was almost empty
It all depends on what you want out of a holiday , if you want shopping or to get a bit of work done (dentists/injectable’s,facials etc) forget it ,it’s all closed , but if you looking for a resort type holiday where you spend most of the time lazing around a pool or a beach and if you want to go see the sights with far less tourists then pre covid I think it’s the perfect time to go

        • +1

          That does sound appealing!

        • Doesn't sound too bad and decent advice. Bali was similar to patong, I don't go on holidays to be surrounded by Aussies acting up.

I'd always start and finish in Bangkok, it's better for shopping and getting those kind of services/treatments and won't be as seasonally quiet being a normal/bigger city.

Personally I never pre book anything, perhaps the first night or two then can extend if you like it or move to a better hotel/area if youv see something when looking around (and not committed). Just hard to know the vibe at the moment and how quite/closed places are.

I'd also suggest checking out those vloggers that live there who walk around getting footage right now.

At the moment there would be better deals directly and lot of competition to get your business.

I assume you can just add on a cot for a little one with this deal?

Can anyone vouch for the weather in Phuket in September? Seems mixed on Google- possibly a rainy month.

    Thanks

    • +2

Was just looking into weather there. Looks like it’s common to get rain most days in September. But with tropical locations you’ll find that the rain can come and go really quick. It might pelt down for an hour or two, but then it stops suddenly and the water evaporates shortly after and you wouldn’t know it even rained if you didn’t see it. But of course you might get unlucky and have days of non stop rain. If you want to play it safe, go between December and March.

      • Thanks!

    Any deals for Singapore?

Just back from Kata and Kamala beach. Was very quiet but places were opening up while we were there. Seemed to get busier every day. Weather turned the last couple of days otherwise really good.

Not the sort of person to ever stay in one of these all inclusive resorts but sounds like a good deal if thats what your into

  • +26

I just spent a week here, here's what I'm assuming everyone wants to see, the included drinks list. Might be worth adding this to the post OP.

Was a really excellent stay, pretty quiet. Food was great, good range at the buffet breakfast (Pad Thai for brekky is awesome), and 4/5 restaurants to choose from for dinner, surprisingly the pizza was a highlight, 10/10.

Bit of a trek to Patong, but if you're just wanting to lounge around I recommend it.

  • I wonder if kids stay free

    • I looked at the website and added a child and it added like $400 - with no mention of a rollaway so I’m asssuming you’d probably have to pay for that on top as well.

  • full-board

Hmmm… looks like I dont need to carry along the special equipment for the special room

  • Yeah can’t find any rooms available.

Started choosing random dates in the end still no luck.

  • +2

    Phuk it I booked it

  • Absolutely ripper deal. Very tempted. But no direct flights back to MEL that aren't overnight. Do I fancy risking a very long overnight flight with a 2 year old? Sharing a small hotel room with a 2 year old? Definitely no romance on the cards then…

    • +2

Phark, I'd like to think no romance was a given…

  • For anyone who booked it, can you tell me if you can cancel for full refund. It’s a bit conflicting where it states that refund up till 30th July on the front page. But then when you go to book, right before paying, the ‘Cancellation Policy’ will state the date 2 weeks before the start of your stay

    • Going through the booking process it says free cancellation and then the date 14 days before your check in date. So I would say yes its safe for full refund. Take screenshots if u need to. I have booked and cancelled qantas hotels before and it was painless.

  • I've booked ours. Any idea if Marriott will honour an upgrade for an ambassador elite member booking this?

Going to try an OzB the hell out of this with club marriott discounts as well.

    • Probably in your membership t and cs it will state that upgrades are only done for direct bookings not third party which this will be.

  • +2

…kind wanna do this solo hmmm

  • Wonder if we can add kid for extra?

    • You can add an extra person / child on the page. I looked last night, added like $400

  • +4

For those that are considering booking this there is one thing I forgot to mention previously
The hotel is divided into 3 blocks with 3 seperate pools
1 block is facing the kids pool
1 block is facing the main pool (with the pool bar in it)
And the last block is facing a “lagoon” style pool

I’m not sure if it was done on purpose when I was there , but it seems as they “profiled” the guests on arrival and stuck them in which ever block would best suite

I wanted a quite relaxing getaway , and I was put in the lagoon pool rooms , that pool was barley used , I think I saw maybe 3 of 4 people use that pool all day. It was perfect for what I wanted

It seems to me that they stuck all the family’s near the kids pool , I don’t think I saw a child anywhere near the lagoon block but walking past the kids pool to go to lunch the kids pool was always packed

It seems from my experience they would put the twenty or early thirties people facing the main pool ,where there is easy access to the pool bar with some tunes playing etc

Not sure If it is just coincidence and I’m not sure they would profile your party as Their capacity increases
but if your looking for the quietest part of the hotel , put down in the special requests section of the booking to be placed on the lagoon pool block
The only downfall is that it is the furthest away from the restaurants/bars/beach and you have to walk a bit further to get to them

  • Dont see the value here, seems standard pricing.

    • +1

When you break it down it is $107 per person per night

When I was there a few weeks ago one lunchtime my mate was off getting a tattoo so I stayed at the resort and had lunch by myself ,I had a 3 course lunch
A shrimp entree , a burger and chocolate and custard desert thing ,so nothing opulent or over the top with 2 mojitos and a can of coke for drinks ,that came to the equivalent of $90 AUD
for 1 person for 1 meal

Sure you could go into town and go to a restaurant and it would be a lot cheaper.the value lies in being able to stay in the resort and not bother with the hassle of not going into town or the taxi costs involved etc
With the added bonus of being able to eat and drink whatever you like whenever you like

      • Wow. Is the food that expensive at these resorts? I was looking at Thailand recently and found some nice hotels much cheaper than this deal, people tell me it's because there aren't many tourists there at the moment due to covid so the prices have dropped. I found a nice hotel for $160/night, so about half of this deal.

This deal seems value though once you factor in the meals like you said.

Is there much to do in Phuket now or is this one of those trips where you just stay in the resort getting drunk and eating and sleeping? Basically you can do the same thing at home but this is a change of atmosphere which is what you're paying for.

  • A bottle of vodka in Thailand is $10

  • +2

by the look of it, seems like we all in desperate need of a holiday

  • 1) Guys, how much does it cost to get there from Phuket airport?
    2) Am more a "Bali holiday" guy, have been to Bali maybe 15 times but have never tried anything Thai related.
To get to Bali back, it's usually $600 (give or take, return), how much is it (averagely of course) to get to Phuket return?
    Thanks

    • +3

      1) it will cost you around $30 (pre arranged through a service like klook)each way to get from the airport to Patong , keep in mind that the airport is a lot further away from the action when comparing it to Bali , depending on traffic it can take between 60 to 80 mins driving to get from Phuket airport to the Patong area
      2) jetstar are currently the only airline that flys direct from Sydney to Phuket , you can pick them up for around the $600 return or $700ish if you book with extras (like baggage etc)
Singapore airlines does a pretty decent 1 stop flight there (Sydney>Singapore>Phuket) with a 1-2 hour difference then flying there direct but because it’s a full service airline and far superior to most airlines you will be lucky to get change of $1000

      • Thanks @SydDan
        Much apprecaited!

  • Seems like a great deal, thanks OP!
Booked for my birthday next year 🥰 🎂🎉🥂

  • $1500 would be a nice month in Thailand.

    • Yeah had a modest condo for 9000B for a month in Bangkok, and there are much cheaper areas.

  • Decent deal, but lack of good value flights kill it for me. Cheapest I could find was SQ, ironically Jetstar was more expensive.

    • +3

Agreed. I keep coming back to this deal because it sounds great, but I'm having a tonne of trouble justifying the cost of the flights.

      • +1

Lol, I've come back here probably around 15 times now.

      • A mate from work just got back, $350 return from gold coast. Would have booked it a while ago though.

  • Best to take a flight to Malaysia and fly into Phuket from there

  • Debated booking via Thai (for the golden orchid special) but not willing to commit that much given the airlines history.

Ended up booking SQ F/Z on the 380/737NG (double bed suite F for the win as the missus loves the breakfast in bed on the A380). Will spend a couple days in Singapore on the way up.

The same accommodation / full board is actually on marriott's site for double the price so it is a decent deal and the resort ranks highly.

    • +1

Max 8 from Singapore to Phuket is the only thing stopping me from pulling the Singapore airlines trigger

      • I fly an ultralight. I'm happy to fly on a Max 8.

You could always fly to SIN and take Thai airways etc.

    • Haven't flown the A380 yet. How much was your flight?

      • Not cheap but the flight is part of the experience. Around $5000+ per person return.
Considering you literally get a double bed it's just fun. https://www.singaporeair.com/saar5/images/flying-withus/cabi…

Also doing a stopover and attending a work event meaning part of the flight costs can be apportioned for tax purposes. Essentially the number of days on the trip divided into personal/business and then you deduct that percentage WAGs are excluded obviously unless also have a taxdeductible reason.

I would highly recommend the A380 F product on SQ, it's so much fun and so over the top.

  • +3

Has it changed? Doesn't say unlimited drinks on the site:

Full board package: Daily breakfast, and lunch and dinner
Includes daily breakfast for 2, and a daily 3-course set lunch and dinner (3-course dinner can be exchanged for a buffet dinner with food only)

    • Absolutely spot on. It said 11:00 to 23:00 before…

It's even cached on the Jetstar and Qantas hotels page. Gone now.

      • Drinks are cheap over there, stock up 7 eleven

        • +1

Yeah that's not the point. If it's included when I booked, I expect it to be there…

Considering the amount the hotel is being paid is 26,250.05 THB which is about 1,032 AUD — I'd say Qantas is making a fair amount of fat off the offer.

That 26,250.05 THB figure is on the Marriott site after you book and they confirm the booking sending you the Marriot reservation number. If you type in your reservation number on the marriott site you'll see the original figures.

Meaning Qantas charges 1,499 and pays the hotel 1,032.

          • @meowsers: Bit of a scandal if that part of the offer has been pulled.

          • @meowsers: Hope you screen shot it.
Should just get a Marriott/Hilton card and work your way up to 50 free nights a year and all the other perks that come with it

            • @G-rig: I am already ambassador elite with Marriott. You get some welcome drinks and that's about it, not full board drinks for the duration of your stay.

But yeah I got a printout on booking, not sure if it will bear much fruit if they have changed it. I can't be bothered arguing at a Thai hotel about drinks. Luckily it's refundable, who knows what else they will change. I've emailed Qantas to ask as I'm sure others have too.

              • +1

@meowsers: Well even if you got 2h of sunset drinks would be alright, the amenities and food are the main expense and what you want, not hard to find Booze outside somewhere lol. Agree bit misleading but did seem a bit too good to be true.

Just let out a few Kwai-nams if they say no.

              • @meowsers: Can you let us know if/when you get a response from Qantas?
Havnt booked it yet ,but was planning on booking it in the next few days
Because even though I just got back from there
It’s the drinks that will sway me either way to book it again or not (as I must have pounded at least 50 mojitos in the week I was there )

                • @SydDan: Will do. I was on hold with them for nearly 4 hours today with no answer. Luckily I was just answering emails and cleaning.

I've sent an email as well.

                  • +1

@meowsers: I've checked my email confirmation. It shows the unlimited drinks are inclusive.

This was whilst the website still showed it though.

                    • +1

@joeeeee: I think Qantas probably made the change because of the popularity, just like the hotel increases the price after nearly fully booked

  • A lot of bars in Patts have 50b happy hour beers for at least half a Day, probably double that in Phuket and for 1-3h.

Good go get our of the hotel and explore the culture.

If you book this directly with Marriott they will price beat this deal, so you can actually get a further 25% off. I made a booking last night at full price. I then submitted a "Best Rate Gurantee" with Marriott. Received a email about 10 hours later saying it was approved. New price is 30,798.30 THB which converts to approximately $1206 AUD.

    • Unlimited drinks?
      Just go 7 eleven ;)

      • Real wine, not the vile stuff that is bottled in Thailand, or even the terrible imported stuff that is labelled "fruit wine" to avoid some of the local taxes, is very very expensive compared to the prices we are used to in Australia. You are looking at absolute minimum of 400-450 baht for a bottle. And that's for a Jacob's Creek bottom of the range, something you wouldn't probably purchase in a million years here in Oz. So….if this deal still includes free flow drinks & wine, this is a spectacular deal.

        • Wine is too expensive to bother with in SE Asia to be honest, just take a few of your own bottles.
the stuff they sell there is very bottom of the range for a fair price as you mentioned.

    • +1

May I ask which package did you choose on their website? It doesn't seem they have the full board (without free flow of drinks) package listed so I'm wondering if they are able to price beat a different package to the Qantas deal?

      • +1

I booked the "Experiences Ultimate All Inclusive-Rate." Which is the same as the Qantas deal, the free flow drinks were also included in this Marriot package. I booked the same room type and number of nights as the Qantas deal. It got approved without any issues.

    • With free cancellation though if they deny it?

      • Yep! The cancellation policy is the same as the Qantas deal. Free cancellation up to 2 weeks before your check-in date

    • Hey

Any idea if this offer extends to bookings for 2023? Ultimate package looks like it is only til end of this year

  • Did you pay then get a refund?

    • I didn't have to pay for my booking when I made it. (I think they take the money out 2 weeks before check-in).
They will adjust the price of your booking after it gets approved.

  • For those that are yet to book:
    A change has been made
    Drinks have been removed
I called Qantas holidays and confirmed
They advised that the drinks were included in error so they removed them
Novotel in Patong or diamond cliff resort offer all inclusive packages if you are looking for something similar
