  • How does this stack up against the xl essential one for $199

  • Can you claim cash back from any store?

    • +1

Only select retailers - appliances online, bing lee, jb hifi, harvery norman, david jones, amazon au, good guys, myer

      • +1

Where does it list retailers? Couldn't find on the above link.

  • how is this compare with hd9861/99

    • From my research the main difference is the hd9861/99 is a smart airfryer which sensors the contents in airfryer and adjusts accordingly to the fry time. The negative i read was you cant override this and adjust manually once in this mode.

      • the rrp difference is $130 is the sensor worth the difference?

        • +1

Hell no. I just reduce oven cooking time by 20-30% and everything comes out perfect and crispy.

I would love some feedback from someone who owns one. I bought a cheapo Woolies one for $49 to give air frying a try and was very disappointed with the results. The unit had a photo on the box of the basket bursting with chips, but in reality, chips had to be done in small batches. The main reason I bought it was for sweet potato fries but these need oiling beforehand, and doing in * very * small batches (like just a thin layer over the bottom of the basket). I gave the fryer away, but always wondered whatthe fuss was about and whether I needed to buy a better one. Any feedback please?

    • +5

I have one of these and I've done bigger batches of fries in them - you can definitely stack them but I wouldn't stack them to the very top. In saying that, this airfryer is on the larger end in terms of capacity and is good for a family, so if you're feeding a very big party, then would suggest using an oven, or doing multiple batches. I've done things in this airfryer that would just take too long in the oven to heat up (e.g. whole leg of turkey, chicken, fries, reheated pizza, toasted buns, chicken parmis, etc). I found that it's also very easy to clean, much easier than the Kogan one as the parts can be disassembled easily and washed also very easily.

If you're expecting this to be magic and cook things in 2 minutes, it doesn't do that. It does however take away the need to preheat an oven, so you can cook smaller things much quicker.

I like to put some shoe string fries in (you could realistically fit a lot in here), and then toss them in a combination of salt, pepper, paprika, and pinch of cumin and sugar.

      • Thanks for the feedback and the recipe tip!

      • Sugar on the chips?

        • +1

I think literally just a pinch brings out the paprika :)

      • It's like a small oven, but cooks quicker as smaller volume to heat. generally never add oil, except for brussels which come out nice a crispy.

First, regarding what all the fuss is about… less fat - supposedly. But mainstream health/medicos are finally admitting fat is not the enemy, not why people gain weight, and some types of fats are actually good for health.

I picked up two air fryers for free from the side of the road. One is like the type in this deal. The other is like this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/397064. It's been a few months and I haven't tried the type in this deal yet, because I like the glass bowl type so much. I put a large chicken in it the other night. I could have put the vegetables around the outside too, but I had time and didn't want to muck around placing them so they weren't touching the chicken - so I just did them after the chicken. (Having two would solve this.)

I've also cooked a few pork roasts and got the best crackle I've had for a long time. Last night I cooked pork chops and their fat/rind came out like the roast pork crackle. Different racks I already had lying around, like what came with my microwave and pressure cooker, fit inside to hold different food types. I'm not sure yet, but I think the common round metal pizza trays with holes from ColesWorths should fit and therefore work for chips without them falling through. I'll probably take the glass bowl in one day and check it fits.

The bowl is huge compared to the air fryers I've seen of the type in this deal. Kogan has a few of the glass bowl type for about $55, but if getting from there I'd wait for their next sale plus free shipping to come around. It can be used for anything both an air fryer and normal oven can do (except a large turkey), and is so easy to clean that I'm going to clean the house oven where I rent and never use it again - so no more kneeling down, no more oven spray, no getting covered in grease. You can see clearly from every angle without opening it too, including from underneath if you want to kneel down and hold one handle off the benchtop a little.

I still want to try the type like in this deal that I have, but I strongly suspect I'll prefer the glass one due to its size, easy cleaning, able to cook more things like a normal oven can like roast meat and cakes… So maybe ~$55 (less on sale or shopping around) plus a couple of racks or trays from ColesWorths to suit different foods, is an alternative to $400 for what is probably a smaller "XXL" one of these that cooks less food types.

With your chips "problem"… I didn't like the finished result without any oil. So before putting the top on, I've been spraying potato, pumpkin, and sweet potato using one of these: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/713746. Sometimes I lift the top again mid-way and give them another squirt.

    • +2

I find the cheaper units don't underperform the phillips enough to justify the price. The larger size units are more useful though. Try getting a wire rack that will allow you to have multiple layers.

      • +1

I was going to mention stacking but I'd already typed enough, lol… The other day when done cooking a pork roast, I removed it, then cooked potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, and and brown onions. I put the first rack in that came with it, spread one layer of vegetables over that, sprayed them down with oil, then sat a second rack on top of them and did a second layer. It could have fit a third rack but I stopped at 2 because the amount of vegetables meant I had to do two runs anyway, and it meant I could leave an air gap between most of the pieces too.

Because the racks I have are just single wires (not a grid) I quickly learned to cut vegetables to a size that won't fall through the gaps. The fryers come with at least one wire rack, and most microwaves come with 2 or 3 of those single-wire racks that rarely get used. So there's the 3 layers for most people.

BCF also sells a robust rack that fits the larger glass bowl types well: https://www.bcf.com.au/p/campfire-steamer-rack-9-quart/29187…. They have a smaller one too but the first one is closer to the bowl width: https://www.bcf.com.au/p/campfire-2qt-steamer-rack/608280.ht…. I often see these kinds of racks in op shops for a couple of $ too.

Air Fryers can't defy how air works.

You always need enough room between the chips for there to be enough airflow.

The only way to get a better air fryer is to get a bigger air fryer. (As long as the fan is also bigger to fit the bigger size)

    • +1

I have one, and I love it. It's used almost every day.

I have done a full 900g bag of frozen chips in it, so the volume is fantastic.

This price is terrific, very Ozbargain worthy.

Their eBay shop is selling this model for $390.08 with code TOPITUP. But I'm not sure if you can claim the $100 cashback.

    • You should be able to as long as Bing lee provide their invoice with the purchase. I went direct as the risk was higher than the reward.

      • I didn't get an invoice with a bing lee ebay purchase earlier this year

        • -2

Did you claim any cashback on that purchase?

        • I always get sent invoices from Bing Lee when I use their eBay Store. I've received either pdf's or links to an invoice.

    • $10 postage

    • There was a post for $50 mother's day cashback on this arifryer. Can someone who got it from this deal confirm that they were able to claim cashback from Philips?

      • +1

I pulled the trigger and select C&C. Worst case is asking the staff for a receipt. I guess my PayPal will eventually show the seller is BingLee instead of EBay.
        Finger crossed.

Got response. They are providing tax receipts from binglee. This is what I got.

        "
We have moved to paperless system therefore invoices are no longer attached with the item

Once the item has been received please send us the message here and we will provide you with a tax invoice to the email address provided on the order

Yes it is a Bing Lee Tax invoice

        Kind Regards"

  • I better return mine
I got the white champagne colour for $500

    • that's a different model. this one rrp is $500

      • Still has the cash back promo

  • Is this air fryer any good?

  • Still not able to see the list of stores thst are eligible for cashback, not list on the t&c ?

  • Noob question, I just bought this model last month from Myer, is it eligible for cashback? (sorry not familiar to this)

    • +2

It has to be purchased within the cashback period.

  • I bought the Kmart twin airfryer for $130 the other day. So far I'm a little disappointed, I didn't think turning halfway would.be so necessary but I think it's all just a bit of a learning curve. I don't understand why more done offer top and bottom heating elements and twin basket.

  • Dumb question - where do you enter the promo code?

  • bought from ebay.. last time i bought from Ebay and BingLee printed me a receipt/invoice!

  • if bought from GoodGuys Commercial, still eligible for Philips cashback

    • how much is GGC??

    $405

  • how do the cheap airfryers work from the likes of woolies, kogan, kmart, etc

are the low budget options worth using?

guessing there are no savings on utilities if you have gas

    • By the prior reviews its a maybe.

I got this one and it's been a good buy, oven rarely gets used now as it's that versatile.

    • +1

Air Fryers are literally a heating element strapped to a fan, which is basically a more compact and larger fan compared to a fan forced oven.

The only thing that changes between them are the size and placement, and sometimes the speed of the fan.

Use TOPITUP for 8%, brings price down to $390.08 and it's not too late to get the ebay swap gift cards from Woolies (effectively 10% off, ends 19/7/2022). All up I paid $251.07 (after cashback and considering discounted giftcards).

Message seller and request a Tax Invoice, you should be able to claim cashback without a problem.

    • Sorry, what's the ebay swap gift cards?

    • Sorry, where can i find information for ebay swap gift cards from Woolies (effectively 10% off, ends 19/7/2022) ?

        • I am sorry , never use any GiftCard discount before, does it mean i pay $90 at Woolies for a $100 Swap Celebration Gift Card ?
Or the 10% discount will apply on Ebay when i use the the Swap Gift Card at CheckOut?

          • @tedchan0728: Please read the details in the link thread I provided. If you can't follow it or understand, I can't explain it any better unfortunately.

  • Is it easy to clean? My friend has that kogan and it's much much easier to clean than my typical air fryer.

    • Which one?

      • Kitchen couture 5L. It's just hard to clean the basket. I don't have a dishwasher.

    • +1

Yes. Handwash if it's really messy, or use dishwasher.

The secret is use a bit of foil or a over proof dish for the real messy jobs. The outcome is close enough without the work after.

  • +1

    $399 at myer

  • Would bite if is white champagne

    • I bought mine for $500

  • If I were to pay through afterpay, would I still be eligible for the $100 cashback?

    • +1

Yes, cashback from Philips is not dependant on your payment method. You just need an invoice which is required to upload for cashback redemption.

    • Does it qualified the 7% cashback under Home???

      • I don't think so, it comes under Home - Kitchen - 0%. not sure though.

    • -1

I don't think Philips cashback is eligible for Amazon purchase, can't see list of approved retailers in T&C's but someone else did post list of retailers earlier in this thread.

      • Amazon is on the list.

  • Whats key the difference of this over other cheaper brands?

    • Build quality

  • can you claim multiple times with the same Philips account?? Planning to buy the air purifier and air fryer!! Thanks!

    • Yes, as long as you have a tax invoice as it is mandatory to upload.

Hi all, I just wanted to answer all the "is it any good" and "how does this compare to the" cheapies? Ambiano, anko, etc."

I've answered this in other posts but in summary this is a ridiculously crazy price for such a fantastic unit. The price is now only $200 more than (after Cashback). This is also the xxl one as well, the biggest one. Don't bother with the hd9861. I've got it, the intelligent sensor is good but not worth it. You end up not trusting it anyway when you are doing roasts and anything more complicated

Here's what I've said in the other post along with cooking tips:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/573898

Yes it is great when washing the tray and basket in the dishwasher. The surface coating doesn't "melt" off.

I started off with an Aldi Ambiano $89 Airfryer. That was great. But totally not dishwasher safe. The plastic around the basket track start to melt after repeated use. They tell you that it is not dishwasher safe.

I'm sure there are alot of comments on this but the Philips, although expensive is much much better than the kmart(Anko) and Aldi ones. I've tried all of them.

I've upgraded to Airfryer XXL hd8601 and can tell you it is in a league of its own. That extra $400 you pay (I paid $503 after haggling with jbhifi) was worth it for me. Overall if you're doing fish, chips, nuggets, they'll all produce similar results. But if you're into cooking roast crackling pork, garlic prawns, roast chicken, xo pipis, rack off lamb, etc. You'll notice a huge difference either through time saving, cooking control or outcome quality.

Ebay plus 10% off code: PLRANGE3

Don't waste your money , I thought I was buying quality being a brand name but my Phillips airfryer didn't last very long and stopped working (at first randomly shutting off before the timer expired and then just refused to turn on) I have since purchased a cheap no name chinese job and so far it has outlasted the Phillips and I haven't had any problems with it , I was very disappointed with my Phillips airfrer

    • I had a similar experience, Got a Phillips Air Fryer and loved it, but after about 18 months the fan got so noisy I couldn't use without disturbing neighbors then couple of months later crapped out completely. Replaced it with a Kogan number I got a about quarter the price, it's much bigger and has lasted twice as long with more frequent use, it's also heaps easier to clean. I'm certain it's probably the only Kogan cheapie appliance that I'll have that will perform this well and now I'm hoping I haven't jinxed it. Instead of a pricier Phillips, we have 2 of the cheaper brands side by side on the bench, I can bake in one while I fry or grill in the other.
