$365 for 15 Months Unlimited Pre-Paid Talk and Text with 5GB/Month - Redbull Mobile

531

Was looking at the Redbull Mobile site to see when the $1 HTC Explorer ends and saw that they have an option now of 3 months extra in lieu of the Explorer. Much better for me since I don't need the other phone and was going to offload it anyway.

I don't think this is a dupe, but please feel free to delete if it is, Mods.

p.s. it's using the Vodafone network (which I'm currently on and going OK so far for me); expecting comments on Vodafail connectivity, network, etc below… :P

Got one for mum too, loves it (although ringing me too much now)

  • at $24 pm for unlimiited calls and 5gb a month, sounds decent. what network do RB use?

    • p.s. it's using the Vodafone network (which I'm currently on and going OK so far for me); expecting comments on Vodafail connectivity, network, etc below… :P

Yay! Successful first go at using Markdown text! :D

(was trying to use HTML tags before… duh me!)

Vodafone. Great deal for those who can get a signal frustrating for those who can't. Getting better I believe.

There is a Guarantee in that website. Below is the text taken from that webpage.

Coverage Guarantee: If you are unhappy with our network coverage please contact us within the first 14 days of purchase and we will organise the return of the phone and a full refund.

  • Is the phone was locked ? if it lock, how to unlock it ?

    • +2

If you're going with the HTC Explorer option, I think the phone is locked.

      From website:

HTC Explorer handset is locked to the Red Bull MOBILE Network. An unlocking fee of $100 within the first 6 months and $50 any time after may be payable if moving the device to another network.

But I think some have managed to unlock it for free online via the Vodafone website..?

      • +3

It can be unlocked for free from the website - vodafone.com.au/unlock

        • Thanks.

  • Any idea if you can get a micro sim?
Better off buying a new phone at full price and getting this deal than most of the plans going around right now.

    • +1

You can get a micro sim (http://www.redbullmobile.com.au/post-paid/iphone-offer/) but not sure if the deal allows for it..? It didn't give me an option to choose the sim type when I ordered it this morning.

    • I just cut the sim down. Prepaid plans on RB still can't tether or mms due to the APN they use

      • Does anyone know which unlimited plan can use tether?! Also can TPG use tether?!

      • I've been able to use portable hotspot on my explorer

      • What do you mean prepaid plans can't mms? They advertised "UNLIMITED Standard National MMS" :-s

        • You can send as many as you want but none will reach the recipient.

      • I know this is this case for the Iphone.
        Taken from their website:
'MMS will currently not work on the iPhone with Red Bull MOBILE pre-paid. We are working to fix this issue' and 'Tethering your iPhone for data will not work with a Red Bull MOBILE SIM card'
But is this same case for the Explorer? Can I send/receive MMS and also bluetooth tether the Explorer to my laptop using a wifi Hotspot?

  • unlimited doesnt include intl calls/texts does it?

    • highly doubt it

      • nvm.. just checked. not included :(

    • +1

"No Premium and International services are provided under the basic pre-paid plan"
so that looks like a no

      • deleted

  • Looks like it expires 30 June…
How long before you need to activate it?
I'm not due to finish up until Aug, so if I can delay it until then,it'd be tempting

    • Read the fine print, not just the headlines -> 6 Months.

      • My plan expires in December. I guest it is not worth me buying this SIM right now as in the next 6 months a better deal may come up.

Red Bull mobile - gives you wings!…so you can get reception..

  • Does anyone know if the EB Games $100 giftcard deal would work with this?

      Report back ;)

    • what!?!? why would an ebgames gift card work with this??

    • From the EB Games & Redbull Mobile post (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/64780):

      Turns out it's expired.

      • So makes this the next best deal for RBM. Better to try it with the scoopon/groupon coupon for 60 days. If happy, buy this before the deal ends. 17 months total.

  • very good deal, but considering my usage, think Liveconnected $12 or TPG $15 might be more suited to me personally.
If anyone could advise which of those 2 above is more reliable?
    Will check out whirpool also

    • Do you have TPG ADSL2+? Else the TPG plan is more.

    • liveconnected (optus backbone)

  • So now it is they want 15 Months upfront but no phone is included(~)

    ~ I hope its not a cash flow problem.(VF)

    • I believe that to get the phone it was an additional $1, and from previous comments on the other deal, the phone normally sold for around $80 to $90, so it roughly equates to the same value…? More than happy to stand corrected though.

    • Twist it how you like, but it's a prepaid recharge that gives three months extra for free compared to the normal price.

  • would they consider a 15 month post-paid plan where they billed me $365 in 15 months time, after delivery of the service. No, didn't think so.

why would you choose to pay 15 months up front? It's quite ridiculous.

    • It's the same thing as entering a contract isn't it? If you break a mobile contract (typically) you have to pay a break fee, then the remaining duration of your contract to what your monthly bill is.

      That's my logic anyway.

    • Well it might be unfortunate, but the premium asked for this setup is still highly questionable.

2 bars reception my phone on the network, and if this has not improved the past months following their investment into infrastructure then what chance is there of it being made better?

:Cash up front may well be wasteful in terms of incorrigible performance.

      • Coincidently I was just talking to a friend who already is on Redbull mobile and she kept cutting out.

However, when I'm at her place, I get an adequate signal (I'm currently on Vodafone, but my Redbull sim has just arrived).

Not sure why, but it may be that she's using the HTC Explorer and I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S2..?

        • +1

It can be either phone / network, however, it is not in our responsibility to troubleshoot the latter.

  • The question seems to be asked already above but I still couldn't find the exact answer so I ask again.

I'm thinking to buy this with the HTC Explorer option. Does anyone if I can use the Explorer as a wifi hotspot (one of its features) and connect an iPad/iTouch/iPhone to it to go online? Basically like this:

iPad/iTouch/iPhone <-> HTX Explorer wifi hotspot <-> Internet?

    Thanks

    • From Whirlpool (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1722648&p…):

BTW, you can use Data on an iPhone on Prepaid, you just need to go to 'unlockit.co.nz' on your iPhone and install a Custom APN.

Not sure about a wifi hotspot though (I'm not that technically aware), but I suggest checking on Whirlpool to find out…?

      • Thanks Chewie. I found out a review about this exact plan:

        http://ausdroid.net/2012/03/31/red-bull-mobile-review/

Not very detailed but quite useful. They also mentioned briefly about the wifi hotspot. I decided to go ahead anyway as the unlimited calls are more important to me than the 5GB data. Cheers.
