The Bush Tucker Man Full Series for Free on ABC Channel @ YouTube

3530

Working from home but still keen for a snack in the garden? In isolation and can't get to the shops?

The original Bush Tucker Man series is now available to watch for free in HD on the ABC's youtube.com channel. Also available to buy on DVD, so I consider this a bargain. This series first aired in the late 1980s, and it was pretty fascinating TV.

His son came to my sisters birthday party growing up in Townsville in the 80s. When the Major came to collect his son, we offered him some fairy bread but he had just a feed of green ants so passed.

Love his shows.. got em all at home.

Shame his website turned into a flop.. click on things 'members only'…

A shame Russell Coight was more recent. Bush Tucker Man coulda learnt a few things from him.

      Alby Mangels for the win…

"I'll tell you what, if there's one animal you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley it's a salt water croc.
Fortunately they don't live in dark alleys, preferring salt water instead".

Lived in the same street as Les and his family growing up in Townsville. He showed me how to stun fish with tree bark. Good times

    • +1

Wait, how do you stun fish with tree bark? Tree bark is soft…. are you saying you smash the fish on the head with the bark? Sorry I find this fascinating.

Edit: I've just watched the first 10 minutes for the first episode and it actually shows you how to stun fish using bark (apparently when you pulp the bark down and it releases the sap (which is like soap) drag it through the water, it cuts down the oxygen content in the water. Then the fish can't breath and comes up to the surface.

      This guy is so wholesome!

I never go into the outback without a decent supply of water, and the general rule for how much you'll need is three litres per day, per person, per man, per degree over 25 degrees Celcius, per kilometre if walking on foot, in the winter months dividing it by two, plus… another litre… at the end..

May I ask, what about the Leyland Brothers?

    • +1

You may ask.. what about them?

      • +2

        Ask them…

      • +1

Ask them if they ever paid the ATO or their creditors when they went bankrupt

        • when they went bankrupt.

          Leyland?

The car maker or the traveling brothers ?

They had that big Ayers Rock theme park north of Newcastle when I was young.

      • Did you go?

        • it burnt down in recent history.

          • @abc: insurance job?

            • +1

              @jv: you’ve done it again…

      • Had… it burned to the ground a few years ago. The rock is what sent them bankrupt.

        • The rock is what sent them bankrupt.

That'll tech them to disrespect sacred rocks … ;-|

    • Didn't their Kids try and do a reboot?

  • +3

    Where's the deal?

    • It's an OzAnnouncement

    • The deal is it’s free to stream, if that’s not a good enough deal what do you want ?

      • It's been heavily publicised for weeks. Think it's up to Ep 6. Series has always been on YT from people who ripped a vhs copy. You could borrow it from a local library since last century……… good to see the old LR110 & 1/2t trailer.

Bloody ripper of a show & Rory O Donohue ( Aunty JacK) did the music- classsic

    • Just reading the thread and got to the Aunty Jack comment and though How old are all these people? Must include myself. Wonder what the average age of the Ozbargainer is?

      • Young enough to use technology & old enough to need to save a buck

      • Thank you — that’s very helpful

    Love this show

  • Waiting for the free series of outback adventures with Troy Dann… he's an old mate of mine

    • Troy Dann was great. The g string feels like a misstep in retrospect. Australia just wasn't ready for it.

  • Bear Grylls FTW, Major Les would never lower himself for audience chuckles to drink water squeezed from elephant shit.

He would have been huge in America if only they’d renamed it The Bush Tucker Dude

  • Hahaha I remember this guy, everything tastes like chicken.

  • Have the urge to go holiday in the top end again now it’s dry season. Would be good to avoid the Sydney sneeze

I preferred the Jack Absolom series, travelled bush in a sigma wagon leaves Giddings for dust and could paint as well

Recently rewatched these. Stands up pretty well. Some bonkers stories about explorers and just how stupid they were.

    Love the respect for country.

"two cans, per man, per day, perhaps…"

  • He was filling up petrol in the first episode… it cost 67cents a liter!

I miss Russell Coight's All Aussie Adventure.

  • I can only see the first 7 episodes, plus a landline special and a "shorts" episode, and it says "16 unavailable videos are hidden". Anyone else having the same problem and/or know of the solution?

    • All 3 seasons & the 8 specials are on here:-
      https://nzbgeek.info/geekseek.php?moviesgeekseek=1&c=&browse…
They are .nzb files, I hope you know how to use them. I checked all my other fav sites, but this one is the best

      • I downloaded them and they came to just over 7GB for everything

        • Which Servers did you use?
They don't complete on NewsDemon or NewsGroupDirect.

          • @nige0090: I use several, but I think it may have been Astraweb. Do you want me to check b4 u buy a block? It was 7.71GB with all the 3 series + the 8 specials. Do u want to know where I got the .nzb files? If u want the answers, just private conversation me, as I don't think I am allowed to put all this on Oz-B

            • @the Unforgiven: I just did a short download on each and,
              Season 1 - ssl-eu.astraweb.com
              Season 2 - ssl-eu.astraweb.com
              Season 3 - ssl-eu.astraweb.com
              the 8 specials - ssl-eu.astraweb.com
              I hope this helps :p

              • @the Unforgiven: Thanks for the info.
                Its all good.

              • @the Unforgiven: Eons ago OzB had a special on Newshosting (Usenet), if the 8 specials are "Bush Tucker Man - 8 Classic Stories of Survival with Les Hiddins" then it appears you can access them via the Newshosting software.

And, yes, the Les Hiddens programs are gold.

                • @havebeerbelywillsumo: Les only made 8 specials apart from his 3 TV seasons
There are 4 stories that make up - From Arnhem Land To The Kimberley Ranges
And another 4 episodes that make up - From the Rainforests to Cape York
That is the 8 specials, or it is the ones I downloaded at least

You don't have to use Newshosting, I don't. I use 5 others thou, you can't just have one
It seems dear to me, but TechRadar has a special:-
                  https://www.newshosting.com/partners/best-usenet-provider/?a…
Newshosting seems like NewsBin. I used to use SABnzbd as my downloader with several readers
But my current PC has played up since a new install & I can't be stuffed to troubleshoot too much (I give it at least 5 days then if I haven't solved it, I hack it), even my WiFi does not work due to WAN AutoConfig not starting; I think there is something wrong in the group certificates.

So I bought newsBin Pro for $20, which is lifetime & I prefer to use my own well trodden path to the readers to get the .nzb file
I still use torrents sometimes, I subscribe to a few sites, some are private
Why have I got The Leyland Bros theme in my head?

    • +1

They release one episode a week. The others may be coming.

  • Its not really free. It costs you ten cents a day.
