HP Victus 16.1-Inch 144Hz R5-5600H/8GB/256GB SSD/RX5500M 4GB Gaming Laptop $888 + Shipping ($0 C&C) @ Harvey Norman

290

Seemed like a good deal last time when it was $898. HN though, so as usual, expect the worst in terms of service. I recommended this laptop to some friends and they are v happy with it. HN did deliver a dud first time though for them, but they did replace it immediately. It was up around $1,500 for a few weeks, good that it's back to this price.

RX5500M, how did they manage to fit a potato inside a gaming laptop. So clever.

    • +3

probably more like putting a lemon inside a potato. still possible

    • Such a poor pairing with the 144hz panel

If you don't mind refurbished , this might be a good option, for $799, are you getting a 3050 https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/refurbished-g15-15-ryzen-e…

  • To buy, or not to buy. That is the question.

    • +5

Not. Spend a little more to get something a lot better.

8GB RAM and a 5500M with only 4GB of VRAM does not making for much of a gaming experience.

My pocket, wallet and girlfriend thanks you.

      • Got any recommendations?

        • I don't sorry, haven't been tracking gaming laptops too closely myself. But pretty sure we've seen gaming laptops with an RTX3060 below the $1500 mark on Ozbargain in the last week or so.

in the good old days, Harvey's position as one of Australia’s largest media clients meant that his offensive commentary flew under the radar, meticulously under-reported by the newspaper, radio and television companies (including this one) gorging on his advertising largesse.

In the present day, the penetration of social media has rendered Gerry’s protection racket obsolete. His crassitude resounds in every corner of the nation and shoppers can vote with their feet.

Personally,I would get the MSI for $750. Even if the HP has a better screen.

    • +1

Why.. the MSI laptop there look very plastic base and flimsy. This one look much more solid

      • $140 baby! Enough for a ram upgrade, nice mouse and headset!

        • Yeah but on the cheap isnt always the best outcome. Personally if the PC is cheap crappy build its not gona last as long.

          • @Gavman: To each their own. I've owned many cheap plastic laptops and use them for years. Difference is I'm meticulous about caring for my tech.

At this price it will be irresistible for many Chinese Australians

  • Good price.
I got the earlier sale. The downside is that the screen wobby and the RTX drivers for Windows 11 is not great.
Screen has black dots randomly flashing (screen glitching).

  • Whats better, AMD Radeon RX 5500M or Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050

    • +1

      RTX3050.

      Rx5500 is more like a gtx1650ti.

  • Victus has the worst screen wobble of all laptops .. cheap build purchases put the buyer on a slippery slope from the outset. That said, every laptop has some sort of con, so it's all about paying for your own balanced circumstance

  • no nvidia version ?
