implying Apple would give anything resembling a discount for their new devices

        • Really? They do have such policy even for out of warranty phones?

          • -8

@hanofee: Batteries… they have to change a new battery because of consumer law if it’s under 80% within a year. I bought once a new battery for the iPhone 7 and since 3 years I got every year a new one…

            • +1

@Thrifty Dan: Ic, u really use them a lot to go under 80%? Even my 8 from 4-5 yrs ago still have low 80s health

            • +7

@Thrifty Dan: How is that good if the battery goes <80%? My Galaxy Note 10+ with lots of use is 84% after 3 years with 2x functionality of iPhones :)

              • -6

@taki: I don’t really care. I get a fresh battery every year for free when being in the city anyway. I guess and would expect the batteries from newer phones much better in general.

        • +2

How can i check my battery life %? Thanks!

          • +1

@Chrotzo: Go settings, battery, battery health on the iPhone.

            • -1

@Thrifty Dan: Not sure why you’re being downvoted to hell here. You’re just answering a question.

              What’s going on OzBargainers?

          • +1

@Chrotzo: I use AccuBattery (Pro) app Health option, which also reminds me to keep it between 20-80% for longevity. I also use Setting\Device Care to optimise performance & More Battery settings to Protect the battery & limit charging to 85% (disable when you know recharging won't be available).
            With automation of apps I automatically enable/disable BT/GPS/etc when required/not :)

Replacing the battery is also inconvenience to be without the phone while that's happening & "don't touch (inside) if working". It's OK to refresh the battery when giving it to another person after reset.

        • +1

Interesting point of view. I consider premature battery deterioration a purchase deterrent.

A high-quality battery should endure without fault or significant degradation for at least 3-5 years with care and moderate use, IMO.

        • +4

testing ACL law to its limit (almost to the point of abusing it) is not a product feature of apple

its a feature of australian consumer law, the same benefit applies to samsung batteries

        • It's like a rite of passage for an iPhone user to bang on about how old their phone is and how it still gets updates. Good for you, no one cares.

    • +49

If you want a free Apple, go to Woolworths and take from the free fruit for kids section.

      • Funny saying that I’m doing it with my kid. I also take a banana.

        • Watch out for the Banana Detectives!

      • We have plenty of fruits available on Ozbargain

    • Similar…. Fake applauses, photoshopped camera samples, and no freebies

    • Thanks, did you find this out?

I have a Toshiba laptop, and was wondering if there was a similar event for Toshiba ushers from Toshiba?

  • +1

So the 22 ultra isn't new any more? :(

    • +2

It is, this would be the Flip and Fold series upgrades

  • +5

They'll be announcing foldable phones only, so if you're not in the market for a folding device you can probably skip signing up.

Hopefully they'll be running Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processors and not the rather mediocre Exynos 2200.

    • so what are the pros of skiping signing up?

      • The same generic coupon is emailed to everyone, the same situation as last years promos. BONUSCARE. It's been added to the deal by the OP.

      • so what are the pros of skiping signing up?

You won't waste 20 seconds of your life.

  • +1

what does samsung care plus give you?

    • +4

      https://www.canstarblue.com.au/phone/what-is-samsung-care/

It's a device swap program, within a 2 year period you can request for a like-for-like replacement of your mobile phone up to 2 times.

You can think of it as an insurance policy and it might be worth taking up if you have butter-fingers and break phones often. Since it is "free" in this scenario you don't pay anything up front, but note that there is still a swapping fee for each swap request you make.

      • what's the swapping fee for a s22?

        • +1

From $149-299 depending on device apparently

      • *twice

      • do you get a brand new unit or a refurb? I heard it's a refurb.

It would be downright abuseable if you could get a brand new one. Just wait the two years, get a brand new one and resell it for more value than a used one.

        • There is a higher chance of you getting a refurb if the the device has been out for a long time: Samsung will have accumulated a lot of repaired units.

Note that it's very common in the electronics industry for the manufacturer to replace things like laptops and phones with refurbished units. This includes Apple and AppleCare, as well as Dell, Microsoft, Google etc cetera

      • ugh, had to login into ozbargain to say thanks —- this should go to the top

  • -1

So uhm can we sell this voucher?

    • It's probably a generic code like last time?

      • +1

That could prove a tough sell…

  • +1

Don't bother registering for free care +, the code are not unique, normally is PlusCare or Careplus etc….

    • +1

      In fact, it was BONUSCARE…..

  • i hope they have improved the fold mechanism for fold 4..been keen to get one since OG fold many moons ago but dont want to go through the hell that was samsung repair again (had heaps of dramas with my t260 monitor and sgs2 and note 4.)

    • +2

FWIW I have no complaints about the Fold 3's mechanism. Works and feels fine.

    • +2

Noting wrong with our Z fold 3 and Flip 3 since launch day, they already improved lot since Z fold 2 days.

  • +2

I feel like I've seen this movie before

  • +7

I signed up for the unpacked event last year. Received the Samsung Care+ code. Turns out that it was not a unique code and could be used by anybody.

    • +1

What's it like? Any free swag like shirts or stickers or anything?

  • +3

Registered last time and didn't receive anything

  • +1

    If you pre order….

  • Registered last time for the 22U didn't end up getting the email. The huge delays in shipping bundles and crap ruined it me thinks.

  • When should expect confirmation email for the bonus?

  • Whilst I received a code with the S22 Ultra, the code never worked due to their awful online shopping system. When I asked for it to be applied post purchase they ghosted me

  • I'm glad they're pushing ahead with the flip and fold phones, I'll love to get a fold one day.

  • +1

So you need to pre-order and buy one of the new devices in order to get Samsung Care+?

    • +2

      For free, yes.
Or if they use a generic code like last year, just wait till the code is posted here and use it.

  • Doubt i'll buy something at launch but you never know…

  • I have a deep scratch on my S22 Ultra (never happened in my Note 8 of 5 years) after a couple months of use. I have Samsung Care as well (which I know I can device swap for free).

Would there be any chance of getting my device replaced? The scratch is pretty annoying but don't want to pay for a swap fee for something minor.

It's also the online exclusive sky blue if that complicates things.

Apparently they made the S22 more crack resistant but less scratch resistant than its predecessors.

    • I thought device swap cost money, if it’s free that’sa much better deal

      • sorry free is a miswording - without questions asked. Wondering if warranty will take it

        • Doubtful

  • -2

Samsung insists on putting very poor English speakers on stage at the unpacked events. Their Korean English accents are so bad that I struggle to understand what they're saying. This is NOT a racist comment it's just a fact that the English is awful. In the newer events they do sprinkle it with presenters who are native English speakers but they still keep the bad English presenters.

    • +1

We need someone who speaks cat

    • +3

Samsung insists on putting very poor English speakers on stage at the unpacked events.

Apart from their president or CEO, or maybe one or two department heads, aren't they all regular English speakers?
I can definitely understand why they'd want their president to open the launch.

  • This deal is for a device that you would have to pay close to RRP to get a free care plan. I do not foresee any good deals

  • Expecting Z Flip 4 to be similar to the 3, which is excellent enough.

  • +1

Remember folks. Cheapest price is usually on release for Samsung. Stack those discounts with trade in deals

    • Does "not sending back the trade in device" still work with Samsung? I just want to bonus since my trade in phone has a cracked screen and they won't accept it anyways.

      • It still worked for me about 4 months ago when they had the bundle deal. But I think they prehold an amount and take it off the value of the phone you're trading (EG. $250 iPhone won't give you a full $250 discount until they receive the phone). But the trade in bonuses were still there despite me not sending anything.

There were 4 different discounts stacked and I really didn't care doing the maths.

  • -1

Next stop announcement date will the same day as Apple lols

  • Hopefully there's going to be a trade-in bonus on release day… been waiting for a year. From looking at previous ozbargain posts of the Z Fold 3 and S22, looks like theres quite a few good trade-in deals which pop up after release.

  • Samsung Care+ is not worth the hassle IME. The hoops I had to jump through to get my replacement (even after paying subscription and swap fees) were horrible. Not a very straightforward process at all and took ages.

    Here are some discussions: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3kpy7jky?p=2

    • I'm on my 3rd device with samsungcare and have never had an issue. Phone usually arrives in 2 days.

  • +1

I used to be a Samsung fan from the near beginning because they had more customizability for a cheaper cost than Apple, but as the years went on, they seem to just get worse and copy Apple anyway.

Can someone convince me not to switch to iPhone for next phone? Their phones seem more stable, streamlined, don't overheat if you have mobile data and gps on while charging, seem to be more secure and Apple's customer service seems way better than Samsung.

    • +1

Why iphone? Apples aren't more secure than androids at all.

      • +2

People just believe what apple mkt says, that is what they are good at. You cannot talk someone out of a cult.

        • +2

The default seems to be "oh iPhone it's more secure" but when asking why they're not even sure

          • +2

@Exec-Matrix: Exactly. They just blindly believe, and keep neg voting other opinions.

    • +1

don't overheat if you have mobile data and gps on while charging

I use my phone for Google Maps all the time with no issues. Is your phone exposed to the sun on your dash and charging from a low percentage? Both of those will heat up the phone more than normal.

      seem to be more secure

NSO Group thrives on people believing that. ;)

  • Email came last night.. don't think I'll be using it..

    • What was the code?

      • +1

        BONUSCARE

Your Ma, Pa, Aunty, Pastor Joe, Frederick the tiler or Rhonda the bank teller can use it at their will.

  • +1

Remember to register and get $50 off voucher beforehand, because last time they removed the page when S22 series were launched.
Get $50 off extra just for singing up https://shop.samsung.com/au/sign-up

    • how long does code last for?

      • +1

        A couple of months.

    • the voucher never arrived

  • wonder if i should sell my flip3 that just got refurbed or save it for a trade in

  • Sounds good in theory, but i cbf buying from their online store when JB Hifi will be doing at least the $500 gift voucher (the JB Hifi guy said more like $1000). I just cracked my screen on my Note 10, went to see if there are any deals, but nope there is squat going on right now, they arent even trying to get rid of old S21!!!! (same price as S22????).

He had a Flip 3, which is what I was going for, but he urged me to wait it out a couple of weeks and I will be rewarded. I had just missed the last of their promos as of last week.

Gone are the days of pretty much a free phone (or the plan), when you pay just the contracted monthly service charge! In are the gift cards you can use to knock off the price of the outright handset (as long as you stay with your telco for 12-24mnths. ++$250 trade-in on your old Samsung. ++ Earbuds. If you're lucky you lucky you may also get a port in bonus $10/mnth off your service (around a year ago they had all 3 of these promos: $1000 + $250 + $10/mnth off your plan.

I had a perfectly fine Note10, but its the smaller one and my eyesight is going in my old age. Just wanted a bigger screen, but wasnt game enough to switch to an unknown like Oppo etc. A $2k+ handset had me paying outright $600 odd on the telstra $69/mnth plan- $10/mnth port in bonus. It was about $650 outright if I recall, for a flagship new Samsung, on telstra paying only $59/mnth for 24 months. The kid on the floor was a wizz, I had no idea how he arrived at that number, but it sounded ok to me.

Better have your calculators handy! Unfortunately i didnt jump the gun there and then, and ended up just settling with what I had. Now top of screen doesnt work, and I cant even use it to trade in :-(

  • Okie where’s the voucher?

    Haven’t received it so far

    • it's BONUSCARE
