Don't Buy from Harvey Norman! Any Suggestions What I Can Do? Please Help! Issue Resolved See Update below!

I bought an OLED tv from Harvey Norman, it was available on Jb-hifi , I agree bad decision !!!
A80J 77 inch for 4400$ on 9th of July 2022, Saturday

Got an email and call and message that TV is on the way for Monday delivery and be at home , I booked handyman to install TV on Monday evening

Got another call from Harvey Norman around 2:00 pm that TV is damaged on the way and you have to wait while we order another. I said ok

Kept calling them and 3 times they agreed that TV was damaged on the way and wait for few days .
Today 21st July , called them and one operator said that it is mentioned that your order should be received by 20th July but it is already 21st so won't be long .
Then Got a call from then again and they said there is no stock of A80J 77 and Sony can't fulfil it .

So you have 2 options

  1. Either take similar replacement which we don't have it
  2. We are cancelling your order

So in nutshell, we are cancelling your order !

I asked him to get me manager on the call

Manger QV Harvey Norman : while talking to him he said , you didn't get your TV because someone ordered TV before you and we gave it to him and it was mistake sending you the email and message of delivery .
I said what about damage in transit , he said no that didn't happen with your package

Frustrated me asked, Can you please give me at least another TV option and honour the price which were on 9th July 2022 (Huge tv sale)
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/711347

I asked for a90J83 for 6400$ with 400$ Harvey Norman gift card which was the actual price on that day

He said they are all expensive now and you lost your chance/opportunity !! he won't honour the price the day I bought

I asked him can you please give me A80K new model 2022, he said I have to pay the price difference 3k for similar TV .

What are my options, Please suggest ? I am pretty sure they gave my OLED to someone who works there or someone else and now cooking up stories and even won't honour the prices that day I bought the TV .

Please stay away from Harvey Norman !!!! I know Jb-hifi would have sorted this issue out .

I paid Handyman $100 and said will pay rest upon installation .

Op. Move on and buy from elsewhere

Your only option is to get a full refund. You're not entitled to anything more unfortunately, certainly not thousands off upgraded models.

    • I don't want the upgraded model at all , I only want the price match with the day I bought the product !

      • +9

I know, it's super frustrating, but not much you can do. No matter what stories they give you, at the end of the day, there's no stock available and they've offered a refund which is the only thing they have to do.

Actually, you can submit a formal complaint too, never know, someone might just contact you and offer some goodwill: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/help-and-support/compliments…

            @Mnanda:

Under the Australian Consumer Law, businesses must not accept payment for products or services if:

            • they do not intend to supply them
            • they intend to supply materially different products or services
            • they know, or should have known, they would not be able to supply the products or services within the timeframe indicated or if no timeframe was provided, within a reasonable time.

None apply. They intended to give you the TV but it was damaged in transit which is not a foreseeable event

HN is unofficially banned in OzBargain. Look for them in OzRipoff.

  • +2

Sorry OP it sucks and I've been in a similar situation.

Did they mention waiting for stock of the model you purchased or is it discontinued? Are you happy waiting weeks or maybe months for the model?

    Few things:
1 - Complain to the ACCC about their practices but they won't do anything, they just call HN and see what's up
2 - Cancel, get your money back and wait for another deal from OB
3 - Tell HN to order the model you ordered and send it to you or if the model is from another store can they send it?

I hate HN, will never buy from them, don't know how they're still in business with their overpriced items.

See the brightside, TV technology will always be advancing and TVs will get cheaper and cheaper and cheaper. So technically, yes I understand you're angry now but maybe you'll get a similar or better TV for cheaper in the near future!

    • My wife bought it as my Birthday gift for 25th July :( , and this year I was so excited for the T20 world cup and Soccer world cup!!
I am not asking anything extra, I am just asking to match the price which was on 9thJuly for any other TV (A90J , x95J , blah blah)

      • +1

They won't price match the purchase price for a similar TV, don't think JB will even do this or even bing lee.

The only thing you can do is write this off as an experience.

        • Price match for the same tv, but for that date ,

They always price match for the same tv .

So if I am to buy another TV, price match with the price on 9th July for same TV not the model I bought .
          Anyways they declined !!

I am frustrated only because they got the TV from Sony and now making up excuses and giving dodgy explanations .

  • +4

Nothing you can do but you can write this experience again in their social media channel perhaps?

And make sure you end it with "Don't buy from HN".

  • +6

There might not be much you can do about the TV other than get a refund but you’re still $100 out of pocket for the installer. You should complain that at the very least they should reimburse you for that unless they want you to take it further with the ACCC, Fair Trading/NCAT, etc.

  • +1

What are my options, Please suggest ?

    Get your money back.

  • +1

Get a refund and make a complaint via https://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/ detailing what happened and requesting compensation for your $100.

Leave a review to warn others once the issue is resolved.

Go and speak to some other stores, and see what deal you can get.

  • +2

Make an official complaint to HN head office. You will need to check out their web site on how to do this. There is a small chance this will get things moving.

  • +1

Same shit happens at other stores. I had an issue at jbhifi where late last year I rang up for a ps5 and they had one so I paid for it over the phone and said I will be in over the weekend to pick it up. Get there Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t available, I’m guessing it was a staff member who decided to keep it for themselves. Also had issues at retravision some years back with a faulty tv and I’m not even gonna start with all the issues I’ve had with Qantas so it happens everywhere.

  • +1

Search online, call other HN stores and see if they’ll do a stock transfer. If it really isn’t available anywhere else then just take the refund and be glad they didn’t deliver you a broken tv.

Don't Buy from Harvey Norman! Any Suggestions What I Can Do ? Please help!!

    You answered your own question:

    Don't Buy from Harvey Norman!

    • Never have truer words been spoken.

It's just a hard no for HN.

  • -4

Unfortunate but sorry, this is partially your fault. I'm sure HN wants to sell you a TV.

Next time make sure you have the TV delivered before you confirm installation date.

Delayed shipping especially through Covid is not uncommon.

"Please stay away from Harvey Norman !!!! I know Jb-hifi would have sorted this issue out ."

JB are no better. They cannot supply you something they don't have.

Admit, you like I will probably avoid HN until next time they are cheaper than their competitor.. haha

    • I have a message from Harvey Norman, "your delivery is on the truck and arrive between ———" , don't know what else you need before booking installation.

And I believe they had it just gave it to someone else

Save your time and take the money. I fought them and JBL over a pair of $99 headphones purchased on black friday down from $299.

I was entitled to my refund of $99 on the item. They said contact JBL to get them fixed.

JBL kept saying, get your refund we will not fix them.

After a couple months of ACCC advice, JBL screwing me over and HN sitting on their hands, the refund period lapsed.

So take the refund. Also never buy JBL, useless pricks.

    • +1

Should have done chargebacks if I were ya.

    • The refund period shouldn’t expire unless it’s outside of warranty.

  • +1

You won't be able to prove that they sold stuff without intending to supply it. That's because they sell plenty of other stuff. Why would they cheat only you and risk reputational harm on this one item? They gave you an explanation that has some plausibility and gave you a full refund. It sucks that you missed out on the sale item but move on. All you can do is tell others your story and which hurts HN's reputation.

  • +1

It's been removed from sale from the HN website ("sorry you missed it!") Doesn't look like they can get more. It's not available on the Sony site either.

You'd hope they would try to work out something with you for another set, but how did you buy it? Online? In store? That particular franchisee doesn't want to/shouldn't have to take the loss (depending on how you bought it.)

Next best price is clicking on the Price Check Now button at Good Guys. Brings it to $5475.

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/sony-77-inches-a80j-4k-bravia…

That isn't exactly music to your ears, but it is what it is. These large sales like they had two weeks ago are decided upon by corporate. The individual store owner doesn't lose out on money, as they'd be compensated from above. This is why you can ask for a deal one day and be denied, only to see it advertised for less the following day.

By all means, make a fuss about it. Post on their Facebook and Twitter, go to VCAT, etc. They might throw you a bone just to shut you up, but it won't be the A80J, nor will it be guaranteed.

The one time I had a similar issue was getting an EOL Sony X900E which died less than a month later. After a LOT of back and forth, and time with the unit back to Sony, the store was able to get permission from corporate to sell me one of the last X930E in the country for the same price it was when I bought the X900E. Still had to pay the difference, but it was as if I had've just gotten the higher one in the first place. Still, they NEEDED corporate to give the go ahead.

    • Thanks Morien, I guess you had the same issue and same resolution what I need

      • +2

I can't exaggerate with you just how much back and forth I had, though. And the ball is really out of the local franchise's hands.

Good luck, and it it doesn't work out, the C2 should be similarly priced by Black Friday.

  • +2

Plenty of bad reviews for Harvey Norman QV. Adding another probably won't change their ways unfortunately.

    • But dragging to consumer affairs over excessive bad reviews would draw their attention. It happened at Telstra, why wouldn't it happen at HN?

  • Oath I feel for you OP but an EOL model they're all gone buddy take it as a lesson to never shop at HN anymore JB or TGG should always be first priority, maybe call JB but they're probably all gone but you never know but they probably won't do that price as Sony pays for the rebate to sell at those prices

  • Accept the refund and move on!

OMG, someone at HN does care about their reputation. Huzzah to you and a good outcome.

    • +1

Hey, it's the deal I posted, too. Well done!

  • Beats me why people shop at that place. Anecdotal evidence consistently shows he is the most expensive retailer, though it does sound like the OP got a rare bargain out of Gerry.

I will never ever set foot in his stores again. A victim of shoddy customer service, and endless disagreements with them, along with the "Harvey Norman Tax" on low value imports just sealed the deal for me.

However in the interest of fairness, I will say that after I chucked a massive wobbly one day, a HN employee came to my rescue and provided service over and above the mandated level of treat the customer like dirt. I can only hope they were not sacked as a result of helping me.

I have never had a disagreement with JB or Good Guys. I consistently go back to Good Guys because they have been fantastic over the last 20 years of buying stuff from them. The one time there was a problem - a damaged dishwasher when it was unboxed, they replaced it within 2 hours while the kitchen installers and plumber were still working on the other kitchen stuff.
