I can see flights to Auckland from Sydney, starting from 179
No flights from Melbourne. They all stop via SYD for some reason.
My brother joined the (profanity)-our-customers list this afternoon when he was told at the airport his Jetstar flight back to Aus was just cancelled due to operational reasons. Next flight Monday lunchtime, unless that one gets cancelled too. Qantas said we have empty seats if Jetstar will transfer you, which they wouldn't. It's not so much the cancellation itself as this operational bullshit which has no meaning. How can Jetstar just dump ppl in NZ or anywhere else without consequence?
Got a flight cancelled on me out of Auckland on Monday by AirNZ for the same "Operational Reasons". A friend is a manager in tech operations at Air NZ, was messaging, basically operational reasons at present is covid, covid, covid.
Add that to the wild weather in NZ, plus school holidays, 120,000 extra stranded passengers need to be moved in the next 3 days.
Also, it's not true that they're "dumping people" or without consequence. Civil Aviation Act states you've got rights (https://www.consumer.org.nz/articles/domestic-flights-and-yo…). We had our taxi and accommodation for the night (very nice boutique hotel in Auckland) paid for by AirNZ.
Need the same laws they have in the UK. They used to protect you pretty well
