Lived in Canberra for 8 years. Love the place!

Perfect place to raise a family and retire

Amen, I've been here for 7.

I lived in Sydney for 15 years…. I cant believe how much time and money I wasted sitting in traffic every day. 1.5 hours ONE WAY, that's 3 hours a day, 15 hours a week… just sitting there breathing fumes and burning fuel for nothing…. plus tolls!

Compared to 30min here in Canberra 'peak hour', that actually moves at reasonable pace.
I have more time, more money, and I'm healthier for it.

Ok, the cretins think Canberra is a hole- cool, less people that move here the better ;).

  • Who wants to visit Canberra in Winter? I live here and it's freezing!

The Abominable Snowman might find it to its liking…

Hey, you want Freezing… Winter up North in Canada… THAT's freezing.

This is NOT a "free" deal.. Post cost(s) of the required ACCOMMODATION purchase.

Negging… as it's now HIGHLY MISLEADING.

  • cheapest accommodation cost $219 per night, really expensive. as i can remember, normally a night at Canberra cost around $150 - $180. is there price increased to more than $200 in last couple of years?

    • wotif.com bud.

crown plaza and mantra are both under $150 this weekend. just gotta pick your dates.

      • +1

The deal only applies to packages booked through this website (at that time). Wotif doesn't apply.

        • ahh… k.

    • The cheapest i found ( Brassey of Canberra for weekend 16/9) is $199 and that includes buffet breakfast parking and a bottle of wine. Another includes $40 movie voucher as well and the Rydges includes 6 cocktails at the bar.So rate is not just for accomodation.

So today was happy hour and i must say i am very happy with my bookings. i made two bookings for two seperate weekends and chose the shopping option. i booked at the Rydges Capital hill for $99 a night!! So i paid $102.85 per night which included a booking fee ( there is no limit to the number of vouchers specified on the T & C's - only one voucher per booking so i will get a two $150 shopping vouchers with my two bookings).

The hotels during happy hour are not the packages that are always on the website. most were cheaper and rooms only - did not include breaky etc. the $99 room was the cheapest and only available with the shopping option. Most others were around the $140+ per night.

This is a fantastic offer for anyone needing accomodation in canberra!!

  • So, not all types of voucher available to the accommodation you choose?

Is there a min night stay required to qualify for the voucher, is one night stay fine? Thanks

    • +1

When booking you first select the voucher deal you wish to choose- either shopping, arts and culture, family fun or zoo adventure. After choosing your voucher it will then present you with your accomodation options (different for each voucher)- usually 3-4 options per voucher but this depends on the dates you select as well.
i did email visit canberra and they did confirm that a one night stay is fine. i booked for school holidays and there was lots of availability.
Its a shame that this information on accomodation offered for each voucher isn't available outside happy hour- maybe it could be requested.

      • Thanks for reply shiningstars, may I ask how many people you booked for? Wonder whether they have any option for family of 4, 2 adults plus a toddler and an infant.

        • i only booked for 2- i am not sure which vouchers included accomodation for 4- maybe an email to visit canberra will help clarify this- they were speedy and helpful in their reply.

        • There was the oxley which accomodated 6.
