any ideas what an original Charizard from the 1999ish cards are worth? i moved house recently and found a folder of mine with a bunch of all those old cards in it from when i was a kid

    • +2

It depends on the card and the condition of it.

Im no expert but generally would check the price of my kids Pokemon cards on

      https://www.pricecharting.com/category/pokemon-cards

Good luck, hope it's a good one!!

        https://i.ibb.co/YjqbhGf/pokes.jpg

just took a pic, honestly, I'm shocked I still had the folder for 20+ years. i must have 20/30 of the shiny ones. i guess ill check em out on the link above
        appreciate the help

edit: PHUCK ME, that site is saying between 2 and 10k !!!!!!

        • Hi, your cards are the unlimited base set release. The most valuable base set cards are 1st edition (first release) and shadowless (2nd release), there are far less copies of these cards and hence are more valuable. An unlimited base set charizard is probably worth a couple to few hundred depending on condition. If you have a whole set of base set unlimited cards then that can get probably $1k to low $1k depending on condition. Amazing that you still have these and enjoy them!

          • @Emblex: Awww that's a far cry less than the $10k I was expecting to get and already had spent in my head! (Blue chew hookers and baby wipes) before anyone asks!

So am I reading your message right they made 3 different sets with the same cards in them?

Thanks for the reply and giving me an estimate also with identifying the set. And appreciate the link posted above! Cheers all

            • @PensionerXXL: If the condition of your cards are really good you can get them graded and if it obtains a high grade for example PSA 9 or 10 then that will still sell for multiple thousands (the Charizard will in PSA10). So not all hope is lost! Condition is based on scratches on the surface, if the edges of the card are still fresh cut or whether there are dents or worn down and softened. Also if there's damage on the corners. The centering of the card is considered as well. The main downside to grading at the moment is that it's still very expensive with the most popular global grading services and it will take at least 18 months for you to get your cards back unless you go with an expensive top tier service.

This link shows the differences between the base set releases. There's actually a couple more haha you will see in the link.

If you wanted to sell all your cards you can join any Aus FB group and post it up. You'll be surprised how big the collecting community is.

              • @Emblex: Ah sweet thanks so much for the detailed replies man I didn't realise how big of a business these old card are

Yeah not sure 18 months is worth the effort or the wait
Especially with how much freight is going missing under the guise of covid

          • @Emblex: Actually, that page contains 2 unlimited jungle holo cards (Flareon, Victreebel).

        • If your interested in selling I wouldn't mind taking a look at what you've got.

          • @i3loggs24: sure how do we go about that? i can take a picture of each sheet in the folder showing all the cards if that will help things

            • +1

              @PensionerXXL: Wow, awesome find!

Just as a side note, please be careful when selling these that people don't try to buy your cards for less than they are worth.

Highly recommend you join a Pokemon Facebook group, and get some "expert opinions" there.

On that note, would love to see the other cards you have!

              • @Uncle Roger: thanks mate, appreciate that however i dont use social media - i will take a few pictures towards the arvo once i get some decent natural light into the house. ill pull a few of the shiny ones out to show average condition as well :)

            • +1

@PensionerXXL: Ive enabled private messaging if you want to send me a pm. If you really want to know how much they're worth, take quality photos of them front and back, and put them up for auction on ebay. Or i can make an offer of what I think is a fair price.

As an fyi, anyone who tells you you've got potentially thousands of dollars in cards based of that picture has no clue. Pack fresh cards, and cards that have been stored properly in sleeves and card savers get top dollar. Binders arent a great way of storing cards for 18 years, so depending on quality, that Charizard would be worth somewhere between $150 - $300 based on recent sales. Cards that arent Charizard from Unlimited Base Set are worth significantly less.

              • @i3loggs24: thanks buddy appreciate that, ill take a few pictures of whats in the folder and pull some of them out and take some snaps of their condition if you are still interested i can throw them onto ebay or sell them through ocau (i have an account there i sell pc hardware through, sold lots of pc equipment prob close to 10-15k and the sales are easily searchable and no negative feedback within that sale history)

              • @i3loggs24: here are a few more snaps iv taken for reference/those that are interested

                https://ibb.co/wyKShHH

most are in great condition, some have some warp on them from being in a plastic sleeve without any weight on them for so long
the dirt is on the plastic not the cards. just grime from being in a bag full of nostalgia for so long - being dumped at the bottom of each new wardrobe/closet lol

                • +1

@PensionerXXL: Did you have a price in mind yourself? I personally would be in at around $550. The most valuable card here is the Charizard, and there seems to be a lot of silvering around the edges, pretty typical of damage from storing in a binder. $250 for the zard and $300 for the rest, and I'd cover postage + PayPal goods and services fee.

This deal is about 20 years too late.. Pokemon lol

Its making a comeback with the current kids….

      • …and adults.

A lot of adults collect pokemon cards as a way of invoking nostalgia from their childhood. They are becoming established collectables and are up there with comics now.

  • It will be interesting to see the delivery / click and collect timelines. Order page says 3-5 days even though this product is supposed to release in September

For those who ordered - Are you able to see your order on your account? I've reached order confirmation page but couldn't see my order when I checked the order on the Account page. No emails received as well.

    • Still no order confirmation for me and I ordered about an hour ago :/

    • Yeap same for me. But I can see the funds deducted from credit card

  • Any rare Charizard in the box :)

  • I just got an email saying they can't fulfil the order and it will be cancelled despite ordering almost 7 hours ago :(

Guess they are out of stock

    • It kept saying 9 available the whole time for me.

      Nobody expects the Ozbargainers!

    • I got my cancellation email yesterday!
I was the first to order, mind you.

      Very disappointing experience.

  • Just received email from Westfield saying they can't fulfil order. I already received my refund.

    • Actually, it's still available for order on their direct website, but been taken off the Westfield order site

  • checked my email to know what's going on with the order and no surprise, order cancelled. This set did become interesting with the inclusion some really cool Pikachu cards as part of the trainer gallery, will have to find another shop now.

  • Order cancelled and got an email today with a $25 apology coupon ($26 min spend)
