Ovela Printed Hoodie Blanket $19.99 Delivered @ Kogan

1470

Hi all!

I saw another OzBargainer post a deal for Kogan's free shipping promo, but they had wearable blankets for $19.99 delivered, and I felt that needed a post of its own. I have both an Oodie and a Comfy and I personally prefer the Oodie (very slightly) as it is a little bit softer and has licenced prints. However, Kogan have an Ovela for half the price as this Oodie deal, so isn't bad. They have various designs available;
Tie Dye Pink
Banana Boat
Tie Dye Blue
Puppy
Black Berry Lemonade

I do have my own views on Kogan, but won't stop me from sharing a deal and letting the OzB community make their own decision. If you already bought an Oodie and want to take advantage of this offer, then The Oodie do offer free returns.

Sorry for so many edits, only my fifth post and was getting used to adding links to the description šŸ˜‚

Will usually take every chance to heckle kogan deals but that banana boat design for $20 got me tempted. So deliciously kitsch.

The same can be said about your grammar.

Why so much hate for Harvey Norman? Iā€™ve literally bought hundreds of items from them and havenā€™t had any issues!

The after sales and warranty department is the best Iā€™ve ever dealt with because I get to speak to real Aussie people rather than some guy in India!

They have always priced matched for me too!

      • +15

        Nice try Gerry

      • +1

It's more the owner than the franchises he is a horrible person and most don't like to contribute to making him richer.

  • +1

    Quality good?

    • No clue, reviews aren't bad and for $20 I would expect maybe the same as Kmart quality?

      • I reckon this would be better than Kmart easily - the Kmart ones I saw were very thin and didnā€™t have a good feel to touch imo - better than the others ? Hmm not sure

    • +4

Using this for 2 years, good quality and very warm

  • +2

Looks like these are made from polyester whereas Oodies are polyester+fleece mix. I'd be interested if anyone can draw any comparisons? I normally shy away from polyester when it comes to warm clothing but… The price is right!

    • The lining in the description is described as "Sherpa fabric"…..can you get "Sherpa fabric" made of polyester??

      • +1

Made from the blood of a Sherpa?

        • +3

Some googling reveals that both Sherpa fabric (Kogan) and Sherpa fleece (oodie) are 100% synthetic, it would seem.

    • +21

I have this, kmart one, all the other cheapies.

Oodie is 5x better quality. Doesn't (profanity) up and crease or whatever after a wash.

I wouldnt pay 100 bucks for an oddie, but they often have it at 50 bucks each on sale.

Just buy the Oodie, keep it for years. It is longer, warmer, higher density inside filling, quality better.

Only better quality you can buy will be from a custom supplier (Oodies are made in china) and even tho, you need 500-5000 Minimum Order Quantity.

Hope this helps - i have just the black Oodie and my family of 6 bought the cheapies and regretted it, especially when its a few bucks more on sale..

      • ovela kogan is the same length as oodie ?
the cheapo usually 10% shorter ie 13cm ish shorter

        • +4

ah idk - couldn't find the length on the website

anecdotally, my family has bought from:

Kmart, Best and Less, Cotton On, Kogan (diff pattern though) and none of them are as long as the Ooodie.

The oodie is the most comfortable for sure

        • +1

I just recently bought both oodie and Kogan, the oodie is longer.

          • @hybir: How do you find they compare? Is the Oodie worth twice the price of the Ovela?

            • +1

@lumiere: Not worth twice the price
Like I said, Oodie is very regularly on sale for $50

I would never ever buy it full price

But for $50 itā€™s the best (or was, pending recent supplier changes as per other thread).

ā€œThe comfyā€ is also promising but I havenā€™t tried it

            • +2

@lumiere: I agree with HasibA, it's hard to definitively say it's worth twice the price, but the oodie is better in every way (better quality, warmer, bigger pockets and easier to tuck your legs into). One of my Kogans straight out of the package had stitching getting undone.
I'd say if you're buying for a person that gets cold easily, buy the oodie. Else for $20 it's hard to go wrong with the Kogan either.

      • +3

Oodie quality has gone down apparently based on the 1 star reviews.

        https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/the-oodie?rating=1

I bought 2 last night anyway and if quality is bad I'll just return them for free.

        • Yeah fair, imo theyā€™re still the best, but buy on sale for sure never full price

I also bought mine a while ago

      • Thanks very helpful review! And now I can show this to the Mrs so that she doesn't kill me for buying an Oodie :/

        • Havenā€™t tried it but it looks great!

          Wrong comment hahha

    • +4

The Comfy is also another good consideration. My partner actually prefers it over the Oodie because the wrists arenā€™t so fat

      • Havenā€™t tried it but it looks great!

  • +1

    legs must be cold …

  • +3

I don't know. I just received this as a gift. I love it. It's warm. For 20 dollars, it's great

  • Good deal OP, thanks.

  • +1

Ovela Reversible Cuddle Hoodie are $19.99 too in different colours

    • That one i have (from amazon , $30 during sale) I only have that so cant compare. But its 10% shorter than adult oodie.

      • I think it's worth a shot for half the price of Oodie

  • +3
    • +1

The specs for that one is polyester.
      General
Grams per Square Metre (GSM) 160gsm
      Machine Washable Yes
      Material Polyester

I bought this one instead even though the photos look identical https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/ovela-reversible-cuddle-hoodie-ā€¦

      General
      Material Sherpa
      Materials
      Outside Material Flannel (240gsm)

      • So you're just interested in the extra weight/thickness (240gsm vs 160gsm)?
If you squint, the third image seems to say 100% polyester. Sherpa or Sherpa fleece is just the fabric, not the material (polyester). Although usually flannel has a good chance of being part cotton, but maybe not in this case.

I'm not judging on sherpa/flannel vs polyester (80% of womens clothing on offer is polyester/acrylic/nylon :(), just wanted to clarify why this one?

        • I picked this one because the specs are the same as OPs. Worried the grey one is a different, slightly inferior version.

      • Good spot. I ordered a charcoal and the one you linked. The description for the charcoal says Sherpa and flannel so it's not very clear. I'll return it if it's clearly worse quality than the other colours.

        • The tag on the blue one says 100% polyester, was it more thicker then the charcoal?

          • @KozieSeller: Haven't received them yet to check.

            • @devize: Got the charcoal today. It's exactly the same as the navy.

      • The tag on the blue one says 100% polyester

  • +1

    Will these fit kids?

    • It is oversize for me so not for kids

    • If you check out the Oodie deal there are some for kids. $40, but will be better quality.

    • Fit? Yes.
      Comfortably? Maybe.

  • I have few of them, recently bought and the one from last year . Quality is decent and value for money. Material may be different to oodie but so is the price. Its thickness is about the same with recent oodie. Old oodie was thicker but so was this ovela too.

  • +2

Bought in plain blue from Kogan a few months ago for $12.99. Still worth it for $20. Only got 9 votes thenā€¦
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/649464

    • 100% polyester. Different material.

      • +1

        Sorry, didnā€™t know that.

        • No, you were right. This one is 100% polyester too, same thing (in the fourth image it's blurry, but it says 100% xxxxxxter)

(I think this one got more upvotes cause of timing; cold/winter, and we had the oodie deal recently. Or they like bananas)

  • So these are for adults and not kids right? Can't find the sizes on the site though

    • Specifications
      Clothing
      Size Adult

Guess you didn't try very hard..

      • +1

        Thanks !

      • Why try when you there to comment

  • Is the free shipping only if you sign up for the kogan first trial?

  • Thanks OP
got the Reject Shop one and loving it.
Might get this and compare / gift

    • Size comparison of Aldi(Crane, $30), Reject Shop (Lounge Crew, $20) , and Kogan (Ovela, $20)

Lounge Shop > Crane > Ovela

Reject Shop probably the best value

  • I'm all oodie'd out after last nite..

  • -1

    Anything ovela is finance suicide

  • Thanks op. Ordered 2

  • They are getting CAAAANNNED on Product Review link Devize posted above! (https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/the-oodie?rating=1)

It seemed they changed the product and people are unhappy with the lesser quality of the Oodies.

Interesting read. These ones might not be so bad after all? Gl to all <3

  • Thanks OP! Just bought the grey one..I have a couple from Best & Less for $25 which are warm enough.

  • I prefer the designs of Cotton On. Very warm too. Suitable for my teens and hubby.

  • licenced prints, what do you mean by this and others are selling without licence ?

    • Licenced prints mean using images from TV/Movies and other media owned by other entities

      • Does Oodie takes any licence from them to use their images and pays them ? If yes, then how others are doing it for free ?

        • +1

Oodie would pay to use images of other companies characters, yes. Kogan's designs are all their own work (or work they've purchased). Nothing illegal going on with either entity, just depends which design you like better. I went for an oodie because I wanted a Winnie the Pooh design, and Kogan doesn't have the licence to put Winnie the Pooh character on their products

          • @nicholasv: Interesting, do you have any idea how much this licencing things costs and do they give it for a year, for lifetime or for certain no of items ?

            • +1

@ChipsChicky: No clue, depends on what deal they arrange. Might be able to find some info on the internet if you do a few google searches

        • +1

And if you don't care about what is printed, or like Kogan's designs, then I'd say to go for that

  • +1

Got mine on right now, its pretty good for $20.

Can't compare to an Oodie, but i'm happy for half the price of them (lowest oodie ive seen was their $40 sale)
