Thanks OP. I always wonder with these deals, since it is one way, are return flights from wherever you end up available for similar prices? Or are people just booking whatever is cheapest to get home?

If that's the case, do these end up saving you all that much money? I find one way tickets (when not on sale like they are here) to be 60-70% the price of a return fare. So, you might still be paying 80-85% of a return fare to use a deal like this. Except now you are flying Scoot with no checked bags.

Not meaning to bad mouth the deal, but genuinely curious about people's experiences booking one way deals like this, how much you reckon you saved.

    • +5

Definitely can get similar coming back. For example the PER to SIN for $127, a quick check and I found return from $262 (https://bookings.beatthatflight.com.au/flights/PER0311SIN081…). So that return ticket is $135.

      • Perth bali… Is that via Singapore?

        • Perth bali… Is that via Singapore?

All Scoot flights are via Singapore…

      • Oh cool, thanks, that's good to know. I always have kind of skipped over one way deals because I assumed they would just get me on the return fare. Good to know for future reference!

    • I would love to go to Bangkok, but it seems no airline has much practical from Brisbane. Going there not so bad with just a stopover maybe 2 hours in Sydney or Singapore. Coming back is a nightmare mostly with an overnight stay at Changi airport.

Appreciate any clues what might be a better solution. Miss the direct TG flights :(

It looks like Saigon is more of an option. That would be next best I guess.

      • Coming back is a nightmare mostly with an overnight stay at Changi airport.

I actually make the stop over work by staying a night in the city and hitting the town.
Changi also has a hotel in the terminal bookable by 6 hour slots with a bar and pool movie theatre etc so if you wanted to chill there for a few hours that is another option.

As far as stopover options goes, Changi is one the best.

  • Are there any cheap flights from MEL to MNL, or only from Perth? I couldn't see any

    • +1

As said in the description, I'm posting as I find them. Takes time. You can also check the same dates. Otherwise give it a while, I'm working through Melbourne ones next and will update.

    • +2

There now, if you hadn't checked btw.

  • -2

Thanks for the deals. Would be great if you posted this on Instagram as well

    • I agree, it's just tough with URLs etc…if you think of a layout or way for me to do it let me know

      • try setting up 301s from easy urls e.g. beatthatflight.com.au/monday25

it wont be clickable but easy to type in at least

        • Yeah I could link to a deals page I suppose, and then the image could have the headline price. Good thinking on 301,thanks!

  • What does O/W mean?
How do you find the cheapest flight that includes luggage? Will cheapest the flight without luggage always be cheapest with luggage?

    • +1

      O/W = one way
On the left of your results, you can choose with/without checked luggage. It also shows you the price difference. Cheapest flight with no luggage is sometimes also the cheapest with luggage, but not always. Also depends how many bags etc.

      • I am checking some return journey flights, it has multiple stops. Do I have to manually check-out and check-in bags at each change-over or will get my baggage at the final destination?

Also I can't find any details on checked or carry-in baggage allowance.
At the final step, it's says $19.95 for checked bag, but no details of weight allowance.

Also it's taking me to a different website "Smartfares.com", it this trust worthy?

  • is this real ? https://imgur.com/a/S1s4ave

seems too good to be true

    • What? $1107 return to Seoul. No thanks.

      • with stop in singapore with singapore airlines and 25kg luggage

        • Isn't that a pretty normal price?

Only use carry on. 10kg is more than I normally take to SK for a month in warm weather.

Flown Scoot (owned by Singapore Airlines) many times - good enough for me for the savings.

          • @INFIDEL: yeah true- just that when looking at singapore airlines website it says the same flight would be $2k

            • @ToboTheHobo: About $550 return on Scoot for me.

              • @INFIDEL: may I have a link for that sir? not showing that for me

                • @ToboTheHobo: That's the Gold Coast departure linked above.
Good for me, not so for you :-(

I've never flown Scoot or even seen a Scoot plane. Are they a real airline, or do they just stick you on a Jetstar plane under a Scoot ticket?

Some of these deals are hard to resist

    • +2

Scoot is the budget airline for Singapore Airlines.

I've flown with Scoot quite a few times, and they are great for a budget airline. Never had any issues with them.

    • Low Cost Carrier owned by Singapore Airlines.

Flown on Scoot planes many times.
Good value for those not wanting the extras like food, entertainment, baggage etc.
10kg carry on is more generous than Jetstar with only 7Kg. From years of experience - enough for me travelling light for a month.

      • Oh that's terrific. The prices are so competitive I thought there would be a catch.
10kg carryon is perfect for a trip to some of these warmer destinations

    • Definitely real.

    • Not related to Jetstar, so it'd be weird if they did ;) they're owned by Singapore Airlines.

    • Are they a real airline,

Not only real, but one of the best LCC's there is. Buy a cheap ticket for under $200, then pay the $50 extra for the seats with extra legroom. It's like premium economy for under $300
Once you get your head around the Singapore stopover options it's pretty much the best budget option in/and out of Australia.

Hope everything is okay healthwise, OP

    • +1

      Ditto. Take care @beatthatflight

      • +2

        Appreciate it!

    • +1

      Thanks, back home now.

  • I didn't find a deal on the dates that I was after, but wishing you a speedy recovery all the same!

  • I am checking some return journey flights, it has multiple stops. Do I have to manually check-out and check-in bags at each change-over or will get my baggage at the final destination?

Note that Beat That Flight just looks for the best prices on other websites. We don't sell any tickets ourselves. So one of those websites is smartfares.com. I've personally used smartfares without issue.

Regarding bags, it depends on the terms of the carrier, and sometimes the country. Eg SYD to AKL to CHCH in NZ, for customs purposes you definitely have to take your bags personally through customs yourself and recheck.

      • thanks for the info

      • +1

smartfares gets terrible reviews. Hard to trust them with the overwhelming negative reviews online.

  • Can these fares be upgraded to ScootPlus?

  • I saw AIRASIA back to the Aussie market. Let us wish for more budgeted price for oversea travels!

    • Yes, they're doing AKL/SYD from Nov 1st with some great prices, and more to come.

      • Any thing for South America? I want to go there this December/January

  • Good deals if the schedules suit. I once booked a flight with a 15-20 hour layover and it sucked, I'd rather pay a bit more and not waste a day sitting around. Although, if I had to layover somewhere, I'd choose Singapore. I walked like 15 km just exploring the airport.

    • I once booked a flight with a 15-20 hour layover and it sucked, I'd rather pay a bit more and not waste a day sitting around

You know you don't have to stay in the terminal for the stopover?
Catch a cab into town check out the botanic gardens or the zoo, buy a day pass to MBS, hit Clarke Quay for some drinks, or venture into Four Floors after dark and live out your wildest adult fantasies.
Can't understand how says they could be bored with an entire day in Singapore…

      • I wasn't referring to Singapore specifically when I said that. You're right, Singapore is the best place to be stuck for a long time because it's super small, accessible and fun.

        Other countries, not so much.

      • Sure.

But if your flight arrives in Singapore at 3am and then flies out at 2am the next day it is not fun being in the airport or going to town on very little sleep.

Booking the hourly hotel at the airport is expensive.

      • A splendid way to spend a stopover with the mrs, visit the gardens and the zoo then some heavy drinking with the contractors at four floors.

  • I bought a return ticket to Seoul. Thank you so much!!!

    • awesome! I'm envious, my one trip there was cancelled after typhoon meant I couldn't get the ferry from Japan. Enjoy!

  • -2

Im looking for a flight from Adelaide to Manila for 2 adults , 1 child anytime between 10th Dec till 13 Dec

  • Any discounts from MEL to Phuket in late October?

  • Is there any way to extend the layover in Singapore for an extra day or two with these tickets?

    • +1

They're one-way tickets, just buy each leg separately with the day of departures you want. That's the point of one-way tickets. I do it all the time as I prefer to break up my long hauls and spend a day or two at each city along the way.

      • With some routes, to Europe for example, the two flights are more expensive than the one two-flight purchase. Wondering if it's possible to keep the deal but stretch out the layover.

        • Discounted flight offers are usually only for the most direct flights.
Contact Scoot & see if they can offer alternative onbound flight dates at a discount price.

I've flown to London on $650 return flights, but arranged flights both ways giving me almost 3 weeks total in Malaysia / Singapore at that discounted price.

      • If you've got the extra time & separate fares aren't too much more expensive, it's a nicer way to travel.

        • A lot of the time I find the series of individual legs are cheaper, or at least breaking up my journey into a series of return tickets with different airlines. A lot of it comes from mixing and matching different cities because different airlines have different hubs.

For instance I want to fly to Berlin, Paris and NYC in one trip this year. Flying return to NYC costs around $2500, and I would have to add side flights on taking me well over $3000.

But if I fly return to Paris that costs me $1400 and then I add on return flights Paris-Berlin and Paris-NYC, all with different airlines, it comes in under $2100 total.

          • @wavesgreen: Outside Oz, there are more & cheaper options to choose. I just hop from country to country, until a cheap return flight turns up.
(Was in Seoul when the temp dropped below 0C. Flew to Shanghai @20C. But started snowing where I was a week later. Flew to Southern China & finally caught a cheap flight home.)
That requires time & flexibility that most don't have.

            • @INFIDEL: Haha I have done that exact same hop down the east coast of northern Asia, there are indeed some very low cost carriers to take you down through China.

I have never encountered again anywhere in my travels a plane seat where my knees were forced into the back of the seat in front of me with no option for respite as the one I took from Shanghai to Hong Kong.

              • @wavesgreen: Lol! Comfort on budget travel in China is not its selling point!! Found it best to pad seats with clothing or towel. And leg room is not deemed necessary!

On a flight there, was offered 2 meal options - the Chinese or Foreign meal. The Foreign meal was emphasised, but I took the purple porridge. It wasn't to my taste, but as usual I was watched by curious locals - so I ate it.

  • def suited for those without young kids, 7hr layovers across midnight and no checked in baggage to get some of those low fares.. start looking at other times/baggage included watch the price jump..

    • Budget "Low Cost Carriers" aren't usually the most family friendly option. No free checked baggage on any Scoot flight. There are downsides when trying to save money.

Good option for flexible budget travellers (like myself), but definitely not suited to every traveller.

      • for sure… if only they had these deals 20yrs ago, be off on boys trips all the time!!

        • I've been using these budget overseas flight Deals since 2005. €1 & £1 flights then on Ryan Air in Europe. $650 return to London in 2010. And so many $400 return flights to Japan etc from 2008.

Not quite 20yrs, but still enjoying budget travel. More money to spend at destination balances the inconvenience. Being a single traveller has it's advantages😉

          • @INFIDEL: Absolutely. once took 60 hours from Vancouver to Bahrain for a stag do, or 52 hours from Siberia to Moscow, because cheaper / possible / makes for an experience and story :)

And being prepared to take an extra connection 'just because its cheaper'.

Suggesting that to my wife for Christmas with our toddler gets laughed down these days… ;)

            • @beatthatflight: You're still together after that suggestion… 😄

            • @beatthatflight:

makes for an experience and story :)

Travel is about the experience. But others may not agree!

Got sick in Nepal years ago, collapsed & was taken in by a Hindu monastery. They looked after me & I trained with the Monks.
A different introduction to the culture, plus free food & accommodation!
That's how I love to travel - cheap & flexible!

              • @INFIDEL: That's amazing! I've said as long as you make it out alive, you've got a new story to tell.

                • @beatthatflight: Was telling one of my travel stories to Foreigners in a dusty village in Myanmar. A guy finished my story… He'd heard me tell it in Yangon. I was attending the first International Writers Festival there.

In Japan, attended a free class introducing Foreigners to Rakugo (traditional Japanese storytelling) - in English. Was videoed attempting my first story in the Japanese style. I assumed it was just to document the lesson.
No - was shown on TV! Japanese people followed me in the street - complimented me on my understanding & respect for Japanese culture! My photo was used to promote a Rakugo event in Kobe…

Understood later, it was more about the Japanese obsession with Foreigners impressions of Japan, than about me! (The collective culture, rather than the individualistic Western culture.)

Travel can bring a wealth of unexpected experiences!

            • @beatthatflight: 54hrs is my 'best' for returning home to Australia from some far flung corner of the globe. My favourite 'just because' trip though was flying to London for the weekend from Perth back in the day before these new-fangled direct "Dreamliner" flights.

  • +1

Totally irrelevant to the post but I can't figure out the reason why PER to SYD is twice or triple the prices overseas.

    • demand may be? i heard lots of rich folks travel between PER and SYD, so may be airlines taking advantage of that. 4 years ago, return flight to SEA back then was around 1200, vs 500 return Mackay-Sydney. Must be a demand-supply thing

  • +1

SYD <==> SEOUL flights take 20-40 hours each way via scoot. On jetstar, they're 10-12 hours.

All up, my jetstar booking was $600 ($430 return fare + $170 baggage, purchased during the anniversary). Just a PSA so y'all are aware of the flight duration bloat

    • Jetstar only starts doing that route from November, just in case others don’t know

  • Hi OP. Do we have any deals for SFO or for Kathmandu for December?

  • Looks like the flights to Seoul prices have gone back up.

  • @beatthatflight: any more Sydney to Seoul, can't find any :(
