  • Works with Google Assistant and Alexa
  • Operate at 5V DC (USB cable included)
  • RF working range: 30 metre open space (varies on indoor environment)

The product is tested with a range of brands and can control most ceiling fans, motorised blinds and other RF products using a fixed code at 433Hz frequency.

  • This or the Kogan universal remote? for $8?

    • +4

i believe that's IR only, not RF.
my goofball understanding is RF is a completely different frequency range and allows controlling things not in direct line of sight, unlike IR

      • So to get good coverage with either for a 2 story house your'd be better off with a broadlink RM4 pro or the like, that way you get a stronger signal and an all-in-one IR/RF device? (Obviously depending on devices and requirements)

        • correct, but im not sure the broadlink can cover two storeys, double check with reviews or the description probs.

OP's RF blaster seems a pretty good price for an RF remote.
one of my zigbee hubs has IR functionality as an added bonus but i'm also after an RF one, but realise this won't help with rolling codes like garage doors and cars (good thing too, as that'd super vulnerable)

          • +1

@KeplersLaws: The only reason I mentioned the Broadlink was that I had an RM3 pro? (triangle one) in a long 2 bedroom split level unit with besa block and brick walls and it managed to get through from one end (loungeroom) to the furthest bedroom (3 walls) with no issue, so I thought a bit of wood and lamiate would be ok.

        • +3

I dont think the Broadlink range magically can go through walls or anything - it's still got to have direct line of sight (for IR at least)

        • I've actually converted from the broadlink RM4 pro to this for RF blind control. In two houses this has better range and more consistent performance, and the learning process on the Arlec is significantly better.

Plus it is Tuya based so works nicely with the rest of my eco system - the broadlink app feels clunky

      • RF = Radio Frequency
IR = Infrared (needs line of sight, most tvs are like this)

    • +1

is this the same as the kmart smart IR remote controller? which is for $30?

if so then the Kogan deal is really good.

      • Looks like it! Both are tuya rebrands! So yeah for that price it is great!

      • yeah, the kogan is a good price, but IR only

        • I think kmart one is IR only too. so in comparison to that, its a good deal.

          • +1

@kehuehue: yes, my bad, thought you were comparing the arlec to the kmart

  • +4

Some stores with alot of stock are even selling for $4.50. Oakleigh South from memory.

  • +1

Does anyone know if this can this be added to the Tuya app? Don’t want to signup for another grid connect app.

    • +2

I believe grid connect is tuya so it's likely so

Bunnings has a pretty good track record with returns anyway so probably worth a go.

      • no returns on clearance items

        • +1

not correct. so long as it is saleable condition (most of the time a.k.a. 'unopened' but you can be cheeky with this if you want), you can return clearance items. have done before.
i am assuming these arlec grid connect products have a seal, either a bit of tape or a circular seal. so, true in that if you broke the seal, you cannot return it though most staff probably don't check/care

        • -7

No, You really need to budge them, complaint to the head office etc.

But if you want you can return and buy the same the item (Source I was the baddas$$ myself)

Returned like 9 of an item only to buy them again at cheaper price (the person at the store will haggle a lot lot. But ultimately after you complain enough (especially to headoffice) especially regarding any conduct like the person in store trying to make their own policies (which was my case) when the guy making his own policies that I can return item and buy it again then to someone else can buy them at cheaper price them to someone else Who is not with me can buy it. then at last he admitted himself saying he was just trying to "GET ME OUT OF THE STORE" (his literal words), and he wont budge on return and buy again.

      • Yes, it does and I have even returned it. Doesn't work in my opinion with my motorized blinds which is 433mhz. No way to tell if it has "rolling codes"

    • Yes it can.

    • Confirmed that it can, I use one with smart life

  • +1

Can't find the product on Bunnings website - I vaguely recall a way of checking stock via another site if someone could share details please?

Hoping to pick one up in Melbourne SE suburbs, e.g. Moorabbin, Mentone, Oakleigh, etc

Edit: just seen the post above mentioning Oakleigh South, so might try that on the weekend as a backup

    • +1

4 left in Fountain Gate. Call them and you can place items on reserve for pick-up:)

    • +1

They had about 6 left yesterday

      • One left at Oakleigh South after I just got one

  • +1

Shame it doesn't work with rolling code….. As fixed code is pretty much just waiting for somebody to hack you.
Also pretty much not compatible with most modern garage doors within the last 15-20yrs.

    • +4

Garage doors I feel like you’re better off just trying to get a smart garage door opener anyway, assuming it supports one.

      • +1

What swanny246 said - I wouldn't consider one of these for a garage door, I've been using a Meross device for this for a while and it's been great

        • +1

Yep, Meross is what I use too! It's awesome, literally haven't had a single issue with it.

          • @swanny246: agreed, and it removes one connection point which can go wrong (the RF signal not working). i had 'obstruction detected' issues with mine (homekit), but got it sorted out by positioning my magnetic sensors better

      • +1

Agree, I've been using the Grid Connect Garage door opener with Google home and works well….but a bit more at $46

  • Same price at Edwardstown in SA

  • +3

Fun fact! If you every so slightly raise your voice towards my front door, you can control the lights, play music, call someone…
I think I'll draw the line at physical security.

    • +3

Alexa, order everything on my wish list

      • +1

        Lesser of three evils 🤞

    • I'll fix it for you. What's your address?

    • haha, same here but for blinds too.

homekit insists that my locks and garage needs phone unlock authentication (unless locking or closing, presumably because this isn't unsafe)

    • I can do that and open the roller door.

  • Put Universal remote in Docking station!

  • Only available in store?

  • Price may vary I picked up two in Ballarat Bunnings last week for $1.50 each

    • I can't find it on the website or Bunnings App?

    • Yeah, Oakleigh South had them at $4.50

    • Damm Wish all stores near me were like Ballarat bunnings

  • I picked one up in the clearance rack for $10 about a week ago. Check the clearance racks if you can't find them in the smart section.

  • Picked two up today at $9 each.

They had other stuff for $9 too like the motion sensor, temp sensor etc, and hub was like $18

Now hoping that It can control my Air conditioner or google TV or normal TV.

    • +1

you cant if they use IR. this is RF only.

      • Ah dam I think you might be right.

I think the remotes for AC, TV, and Google TV are IR.

I thought RF could do IR too, but if you are right then not.

Guess I will just have return these. Good that I hadn't opened them yet

        • +1

if you open OP's photo, the one to the direct left is the IR one. but it's not on sale.

  • Also saw the Arlec contact sensors down to $9 from $18.50

  • Have quite a few smart devices. Just tried it on my motorized blinds and TV. It "learns" it but is not able to send the signal. I am sure my blinds are "dumb". Buyers beware.

    • check if your motblinds and TV is actually RF, not IR. if IR, (most TVs, even expensive ones) that's a different range of frequencies and you'll need an infrared blaster. but you're right. buyers indeed DYOR.

      • Definitely sure my blinds remote is 433 (it is even written on it). The app even learns it correctly. Upon testing it…no dice.

  • +1

for more info, here's the product page for it, but on bunnings NZ. https://www.bunnings.co.nz/arlec-rf-transmitter-self-learnin…

reviews aren't looking great but worth a shot, seeing as it's $9.

item no. 0118696. taken from OP's image, cheers jimojr. to check stock at your nearest stores, as it's clearance and not on the au website, call them and quote them the item number. any staff will bring it up on their PDA and advise if stock or not and other nearby stores that do

  • I bought one at full price some time back - it did not control my fans which turned out to operate on a different frequency. I returned it for a refund.

I never tried it with my blinds - maybe if they have any in the local I'll buy another and give it a try.

  • Clarkson (WA) Bunnings had four (4) as of last night

  • Got one, quite easy to open up, the chip inside is tywe3s which can be flashed to tasmota. Will try and report back

    • +2

so initial trial with tuya-convert over the air trick didn't work. I had to do a bit of soldering and managed to flash the chip to tasmota using usb to ttl serial cable. On the back of the board there's reset pin that need to be grounded to disable the MCU to be able to flash it, after that it was straight forward following tasmota flashing guideline for this chip. Now just need to look for config file for this particular model.

  • What can these be used for other than ceiling fans and blinds?

    • +1

anything that uses RF technology but is not rolling code.
I used to own some Arlec 'dumb' wifi plugs that were remote controlled. this product would ostensibly work for that.
perhaps there are some floor fans out there that use RF too, but most are probably IR.

      • I have a few Grid Connect products and really like them and was trying to find a reason why I need 1 of these but looks like I don’t need it.

  • There are plenty at Warwick Qld along with $9 contact and temp sensors and $5 for 2 smart plugs with USB. Motion sensors, hub and IR remote were still $20+

  • Anyone have any tips please on how I connect this device and everything I program to google home/assistant?

Once I've programmed the light/fan combo in my room it would appear that the app works great but I cant connect to google for voice control even though I have a number of Grid Connect switches etc that already work like a charm..

    • I think the grid connect app can link with home assistant, if you are a bit technical it can be flashed to tasmota or esphome for better integration but need special cable and soldering for flashing. I tried the tuya convert method but didn't work, apparently it was updated with newer firmware.

      • I had to call Grid Connect and ask for assistance in the end. I've still some current issues with Google Home unable to forget old commands from IHC so that's the next part of this headache.

In a nut shell, one needs to create a scene and trigger the device and task. Once that has been completed it will be compatible with voice commands unless (like in my case) google wants to use another app like IHC which causes it to fail if using the same names as before.

If you need help with this device there should be a phone number inside on the instructions, the guy who helped me was friendly but had to learn by trial and error what he was doing. Still we got much further than I had of on my own..

  • Rang up about stock today and was told (for Vic) the following stores have stock:
    Collingwood had ~11
    Coburg had ~ 4?
Broadmeadows had stock (can't recall no.)
Port Melbourne has 1 left after I bought one tonight (for $9).
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Can this used for the evaporative air conditioner, such as Bonaire

  • Down to $6.75 at Caringbah, NSW. Still 7 in stock.

  • Bought some Arlec Grid Connect Contact Sensors today for $3.50 at Bunnings Kotara, NSW.
